RATING | REASON | SIDE EFFECTS FOR NEXIUM | COMMENTS | SEX | AGE | DURATION/ DOSAGE | DATE ADDED |
1 | Stomach irritation | Gastric distress, nausea, dizzy, extreme fatigue, mental fog, crushing headache | I absolutely could not function. Would not believe it was the nexium until my brother said he experienced the same thing. | F | 38 | 5 days | 6/22/2019 | 2 | Heartburn | Hip, back pain, jaw pain, general joint pain, dry burning eyes | It helped solve the heartburn. when i took it everyday it caused all joint pain and dry eyes after long time of use . I try to take it every 3rd day and the side effects subsided. I can’t live without a ppi my heartburn is severe due to gallbladder removal | M | 39 | 5 years 20 | 6/10/2019 | 1 | Hairal Hernia | Brain Fog, joint pain, chest pain, fibromyalgia like symptoms, fatigued, general body aching. | Had a bit of heartburn and had an endoscopy, started taking 20mg for about a week. Day 3 I started noticing the symptoms and didn't think it was the medicine. the preceding few weeks I had anxiety and panic attacks and this made it WAYYY WORSE. i was so irritated and had severe mood swings. At one point I wanted to yell at little kids at a grocery store because they were being loud! Yesterday was my last day after a week and I will not be taking this ever again. Will be going all natural. Ginger, turmeric, diet and lose weight. Not worth the side effects, rather deal with pain ad long term this medicine will kill you first. | 29 | 7 days 20mg | 5/14/2019 | 1 | Gastritis and Ulcer | I am so glad that I found this site, I was seriously beginning to think I was losing the plot. Day 1 of taking this med, I felt fine, and then all hell broke loose. Symptoms of insomnia, neck tightness (think throttled), bone pain, especially in hips, lower back and neck. Increased heart rate, breathlessness, feeling of fumes coming up from stomach, and fast weight loss, in 21 days, have lost 18 lbs. I am livid with my doctors who despite me telling them, I react to anything ending in 'zole' they kept pushing me to take them, and Nexium has been the worse> I have stopped taking them, and am researching natural ways to heal my now very tender stomach, and hope that the side effects fade away with time. I would never ever recommend taking this poison, because that is what it is, poison, I am just so thankful to have come across this site. | My message, do your research, these drugs are dangerous for some, and certainly given the pages upon pages of comments, the side effect list needs updating, it is shocking that this drug is so widely prescribed, and doctors are simply not prepared to consider that the side effects suffered could be down to this drug. I had 2 trips to ~A & E with breathing difficulty and low Oxygen, fast heart rate, the doctors were confused, I raised that nothing had changed in my medications except Nexium, they were adamant it was nothing to do with it, they are wrong wrong wrong. | F | 58 | 21 days 20 mg 2X day | 2/17/2019 | 1 | Duodenum Erosion | Terrible drug! Extreme fatigue, very sore stomach, very loose stool. | Have been off nexium for nearly 4 weeks, the stomach pains have gone but I am still so fatigued... Does anybody know how long this will last? | F | 25 | 6 weeks 40mg | 12/17/2018 | 1 | Acid Reflux/sliding hiatal hernia | I became deadly sick with Nexium. I suffered from headaches, extreme joint pain, muscle pain, extreme fatigue, heart palpitations, night sweats, muscle weakness, couldn't concentrate or make decisions. My body inflammation was so bad that I became hard like stone. I always felt like I was on deaths door. No test would show what was wrong with me. No doctor would help me because they believe Nexium is a safe drug that you can take a life time. This drug destroyed my life! | I would not recommend Nexium to anyone. It's pure poison and you will become addicted to it in no time. It changes every cell in your body and mind. See my website encapsulated.ca to find out how to get off Nexium. Which is not an easy task! | F | 56 | 12 years 20 mg 1X day | 12/14/2018 | 1 | Acid reflux | Awful anxiety, dizziness, feeling faint and extreme weakness | Not an option | M | 35 | 6 days 20 | 11/24/2018 | 2 | H pylori | While Nexium did help get rid of my issue, the side effects were just too intense for me and I stopped treatment early. I have since then started to make changes to my diet to see how well I fare. While on Nexium I experienced: Palpitations, chest fluttering, brain fog, nervousness, night sweat, head ache, and dizziness. The brain fog and dizziness are finally beginning to subside, but they have been lingering the longest (5 days now off the meds, has felt like an eternity). This may be a miracle drug for some, in a way it did help me, but perhaps too strong to take for extended periods of time. Hopefully my diet changes will be the most effective medicine of all. | 29 | 5 days 40mg | 11/20/2018 | 1 | Silent reflux | Jittery feeling, major panic attack (never had one before) hard to breathe, fatigue, sore muscles, loss of appetite, feeling full all of the time, changecin bowels. Basically felt like I was drunk with foggy brain all of the time. It was horrible. | Going to go off of it today and see how my symptoms go. Dont have heartburn, but ENT says I have silent Gerd after examing me. Going to try natural alternatives. | M | 51 | 6 days 20mg | 7/10/2018 | 1 | Acid reflux | I started to use this medication 5 years ago due to acid reflux. The acid reflux I had it was not severe much however, GI doctor I went recommended to me to take it every day. It is the biggest mistake to recommend a patient who does not have severe acid reflux and putting a patient for every day for such a strong medication. It is not easy to taper off as you may read from other reviewers. In addition, recent data coming up show that this class of medications (PPI) are not as safe as it was thought to be before. Be careful, what you are signing for!!. Never listen one GI doctor's opinion, take always second even third opinion. Never start this class of medications by yourself. They are off-patent now and easy to find from over the counters. Also always remember that this class of drugs are first developed for severe stomach problems such as ulcers. However, it has been shown that for acid reflux cases going from 20 mg to 40 mg ( doubling the dose) does not help. PPIs are not as ef | I would not recommend nexium or any PPI class medications unless you are absolutely sure that you need it. If you need to take it, even in this case do not take every day regularly, take it only when needed. | F | 48 | 5 years 20 mg 1X day | 3/28/2018 | 2 | LPR Silent Reflux | Severe fatigue, Constipation & B-12 deficiency | I took Nexium in my 20’s for 6 weeks & had some slight fatigue only. This last go round produced WAY more fatigue & unfortunately depleted my B-12(which is probably why I was fatigued). After stopping Nexium, I felt instantly better, but a few weeks later the reflux returned & I went back on it. Within hours, I just wanted to take a nap. I am a runner & workout 5 days a week. On the Nexium, I could barely function. I don’t care what other people say about having no side effects. Everyone is different & so is our body chemistry(my body reacted differently when I was 25 vs 40). I know for a fact it was the Nexium, because when I stopped taking it, I felt normal again. Try Marshmallow Root for you reflux, it help tremendously with no side effects. | F | 41 | 100 days 40mg | 3/4/2018 | 1 | For acid reflux | Pains in my joints, extreme fatigue, heart palpitations, always feeling tired, extreme weakness, inability to concentrate, loss of weight, feeling dizzy constantly, headache | I was experiencing all the side effects listed above but did not connect it to the use of Nexium,I visited about five different hospitals and all test conducted came out negative but my symptoms persisted since I still continued with the medication. Thank God for this site since I read the views of other uses who were experiencing the same side effects I was experiencing. I got some comfort since all the doctors said Nexium cannot be the cause of my muscle aches and joint pains. I stopped using the medication on the 9th December 2017 and within three days I was feeling better and was able to now walk some few distances which I could not do earlier.today is 21st January 2018 and I feel much better since majority of the side effects are gone and I can feel I am gradually regaining my normal and usual strength and energy. This medication may be good for others but for me it was a killer and I would not recommend this to my worse enemy.I still feelooking the symptoms once a while after stoping for one month now and wondering when all symptoms will totally disappear, can anyone help me know how long it will take to clear totally from my system. | M | 35 | 4 months 40mg | 1/21/2018 | 1 | GERD | I was fine for about 3 months then it started! It took me 3 trips to the doctor and countless blood tests to work out that I was not dying but had terrible side effects from these terrible tablets! I left extreme dizziness constantly from morning to night, my speech was laboured and I could get all my words out in the right order, I had pain down my legs, sometimes shooting sometimes a dull persistent ache. I couldn’t see properly and had to blink to focus a lot, light was becoming a problem and found it hard to watch TV if it was very bright. I had extreme fatigue and would go home and sleep all evening, I cried most days and felt very low - partly due to trying to work out what the hell was wrong with me! I stopped taking Nexium 5 days ago... the fog has lifted from my brain, I don’t feel dizzy, my sight is getting back to normal, I am still tired but it’s getting better! Stay away from these tablets - they are lethal ☹️ | F | 42 | 10 months 20mg | 12/7/2017 | 1 | GERD | Severe hearth palpitations, dizziness, hard to concentrate... | Never again... | F | 42 | 1 days 20 | 12/2/2017 | 1 | Heartburn | Horrible headache, anxiety, throat lump and twitching tongue | F | 39 | 7 days 40gr | 10/21/2017 | 1 | stomach protectant | Dizziness, brain fog so severe I couldn't even type correctly, felt severely drugged, joint pain, severe migraine occurred within 2 hours after taking nexium. | To the 69/yo female who posted a review on 9/27/17, please do a search for nexium and rhabdomyolysis. | F | 2 days 1X day | 10/16/2017 | 1 | Acid Reflux | Muscle spasms/contractions/muscle weakness | I reviewed Nexium March 19, 2017, two days after stopping it. I immediately had all spasms/contractions/twitching/feet bone and joint pain disappear the first day not taking the Nexium the night before. Now, it is more than 6 mths. since and those symptoms have never returned. I am still trying to get a diagnosis for continued muscle weakness in legs and arms. Regardless of the diagnosis I eventually get, I will always believe all this started with the long term taking of Nexium. Of course, there will never be any proof of it. I deeply regret taking this drug. It is awfully suspicious that severe bone and joint pain in ankles and knees literally disappeared overnight. These were symptoms I had progressively getting worse over a period of several years. Now, I'm dealing with something more frightening, but from stopping Nexium, I have never had that joint pain again. | F | 69 | 10 years 40 MG. 1X day | 9/27/2017 Patient History | 1 | Gerd and Hiatal Hernia | After about 6 weeks of use I began to have pain in my muscles and joints in my knee, ankle and thighs, also calves and muscle twitching. Eye dryness and some fuzzy "thinking" Pain in muscles was also burning like fibromyalgia. | Horrid stuff, I am now taking Zantac and eating small meals, nothing after 7 pm | F | 61 | 2 months 20 2X day | 7/9/2017 | 4 | help heal throat from acid reflux | Extreme abdominal swelling (i was a size 2 and with swelling had to wear size 8-10) and wanted to tear my flesh and skin from my bones it hurt so bad. Hugs hurt. Sheets against my skin hurt. | The doctor said to stop taking Nexium because of the skin/flesh pain. He had me taking a non-prescription Zantac instead for my throat healing needs. The pain subsided 4 days later. However the extreme abdominal swelling was very uncomfortable. Read someone took probiotics with success. Bought Digestive Advantage (which goes through the acid well). Taking 2 per day for the swelling benefits. After one week I have lost 2 inches of swelling. YEAH!!! Will take the double dose of these probiotics until I am back to normal. Then I plan to reduce to normal dose of 1 pill/day. What I read is there is no harm in doubling up doses of probiotics, expecially if temporary. | F | 55 | 75 days 40 mg 2X day | 7/6/2017 | 1 | Gastric reflux | Nexium changed from a capsule to a tablet & with a different configuration of omeprazole. I am experiencing severe gastric distress that I never had with the capsules. So I will buy the generic alternative. Which is multiple times more effective | M | 70 | 6 years | 5/10/2017 |
