However on reading the comments on this page I have now realised I have been suffering with an awful lot of symptoms relating to taking Yasmin, far too many to be a coincidence. These include anxiety, depression, heart palpitations (admitted to hospital) pins and needles in my arms and legs, restless legs, never sleeping properly, irregular bowel, frequent migraines, deteriation in eyesight and worst of all severe hair loss. I am still outgoing, carefree and a positive person but I have severe anxiety, I can't sleep most nights, and a lot of the time feel depressed. I also find that I have low sex drive and my eye sight has gotten so bad that I cannot see anything without my contacts. I didn't know why I haven't been feeling myself lately but now I know that its been a result of being on this birth control for 7 years. I know its easy to trust our doctors because it is their job to know about these drugs and side effects. I started having mild circulation problems pretty early on. However, I had had frostbite so I did not link the problems to the drug. By the time I stopped taking it, my fingers and toes were turning blue/purple (yes I really mean solid blue) and numb in temps as warm as mid 60 degrees F. My fingers and toes would turn white and numb in temps as warm as 80-90 degrees F, and inconsistently. Sometimes it would happen when I was just sitting or walking round the house, but other times it would happen when I was being severally active. Often if it was an aerobic work out my fingers and toes would go completely numb within a couple seconds and would take forever to come back to normal. If my fingers and toes were exposed to actual cold weather(winter in Indiana) then they would stay numb for hours or all day. The chest pains got more frequent & painful as time went on. By the middle of the 2nd mo I had strong chest pains every few days. By the end of the month it was every day. By the time I quit it was several times a day, varying severity. The nausea and headaches were a near constant. When I quit, the side effects went away fairly quick. I was 18, 5'4, 110lb, never smoked, didn't drink. All the weight seemed to go on my tummy (like the way an older woman's would). Then after nearly four months, I began having agonizing migraines that involved nausea, sensitivity to light & sound, & pains. I would have to shut myself in a dark, quiet room for the whole day at least. I also started having tingling/numbness in my hands & feet. I also have noticed mild depression. I am getting off this pill TODAY! When starting Yasmin I felt ok though slowly I started to feel an underlying anxious feeling within..this progressed to feelings of self doubt, insecurity, jealousy, anger, severe mood swings and so on. I never thought it was the pill because these side effects started off small and slowly. As a result I lost my partner who I loved with all my heart. I would take out most of my anger on him. Make up reasons in doing so while all the time knowing I was completely wrong in my actions and assumptions. After 3 years he simply could not cope anymore. After seeing a counsellor he thought I needed anti depressants. So I saw my new doctor and she said to stop taking Yasmin. So I did. I have been off Yasmin for 1 month and the change in my character is astonishing!!!! I feel so calm, relaxed and at peace. I honestly feel like I have reclaimed my old self. The side effects didn't surface immediately either, they took about 9 months to 1 year to surface and I didn't associate all of the symptoms with the birth control until I switched off of Yasmin and all of it went away immediately. I also tried the generic Yasmin (Ocella) since it was cheaper and the side effects were exactly the same - they didn't get any worse or any better.
