| 5 | to regulate periods | Leg and foot cramps | I now have light periods once a month. I don't have PMS mood swings as bad as I used to. I don't like the foot cramps, but it's worth it to be regular. | F | 52 | 1 days | 4/18/2006 | 5 | to regulate periods | Leg and foot cramps | I now have light periods once a month. I don't have PMS mood swings as bad as I used to. I don't like the foot cramps, but it's worth it to be regular. | F | 52 | 1 years | 4/18/2006 | 1 | BC | This pill almost killed my 17 yr old niece. Do not take if you smoke. Period. She had such terrible blood clots in her legs they had to slice down both legs to release the pressure. She spent a month in the hospital and her legs will never be the same. They were terrified it would go to her lungs. Should not be on the market. | F | 51 | 5 months 30 mg 1X D | 4/14/2010 | 1 | Off-label for bleeding | Leg Pain | If you have leg pain please see your doctor or go to the ER as soon as you can. My wife died from a blood clot. | M | 50 | 3 months | 4/11/2009 | 3 | Perimenopause & Birth Control | Not the normal pill side effects, but fatigue, depressed feeling, weakness, joint stiffness, lack of endurance during any physical activity. | After 11 months on YAZ, I quit taking it 8 days ago. I was 8 pills into the pack & could not take the fatigue, depressed feeling, weakness, joint stiffness & lack of endurance during any physical activities any longer. I realized I wasted a year taking this pill and withdrew from all the things I love to do (the things that make me who I am)because of how I was feeling. Yes, it kept me calm, but whenever I tried to do anything I felt anxious & then I'd be exhausted afterwards like an adrenaline crash. I became very concerned about the diuretic in YAZ as I am also small frame thin person. When I researched drosperenone I found many women complaining of the same debilitating affects of this pill & its diuretic. I am feeling more of my strength back already since I quit & I am not reacting to everything with that stressed feeling anymore. | F | 49 | 11 months | 3/18/2008 | 3 | to control bad periods | extreme weight gain at least ten to 15 pds while i exercise regularly and eat well. extreme moodiness and depression. breasts got way too big. period was decreased by a few days but not enough to make up for the horrible weight gain. the weight gain did not start until i switched t yaz from yasmin. | F | 49 | 1 years | 11/24/2006 | 4 | Birth Control and Acne | Loss of libido. But skin cleared up immediately. | If you want to look good and not have sex, this is great. If you want to have sex but no one wants to look at your bad skin, and therefore you won't have sex anyway, then you don't have to take it. | F | 48 | 2 years | 7/11/2007 | 1 | irregular cycles | Complete & unacceptable loss of libido; increased PMS symptoms such as bloating, irritability, fatigue, and spotting; severe menstrual discomfort to include migraine headaches, clots, nauseau, constipation, night sweats, cramping, leg aches, irritability, mood swings, depression, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness & being overwhelmed; overall change in functioning to include mid cycle spotting, fuzzy thinking, decreased memory recall, confusion, apathy, and general malaise. Prior to taking this Rx and normally I was sexually active, moderately athletic, and a cheerful/outgoing/social person. | After two months of taking this Rx, which was specifically prescribed to regulate my periods, which it has not accomplished at all, and having picked up these other undesirable side effects, I am discontinuing its use and will seek a natural alternative remedy such as creams and herbs. | F | 48 | 2 months | 6/20/2007 | 1 | birth control, regulate period | increaased migraines, breast tenderness, extreme bloating, leg pain/cramps, vaginal odor. | take this stuff off the market. I have never experienced the level of side effects I have with this birth control pill. If it hasn't effected some women yet, it likely will as it seems to take up to several years to "raise it's ugly head". It only took me 3 months and I was only on for 5. Things got worse when I STOPPED; the weight gain continued(I gained 20-25 pounds since stopping). Nothing is making this weight budge and I've been off for 4 months now. I registered complaints with Berlax Labs and the FDA. I suggest anyone displeased with this horrible pill do the same. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a class action law suit brought and I would be one of the first to jump on that bandwagon. I believe that the advertisements are misleading and very dangerous to women, especially younger women. "nuff said. | F | 48 | 5 months | 11/11/2005 | 1 | to prevent pregnancy | It was okay in the beginning, but THEN...severe heartburn, taking zanez, prilosec, tums endlessly, ritadrine etc. Had a Hpilory workup for the disease that heartburn causes to the esophogus. Right arm with numbness. Bowel issues with leaking feces. No constipation, but endless movements. Dry skin, blurry vision. The list is endless. This stuff is poison. I don't know why Bayer who markets Yasmin and Ocella is not taken off the market. I started to have sleep issues so the Doc told me to get off the Ocella, knockoff of Yasmin. Like magic, the heartburn disappeared in 24 hours. Unbelievable. Now what do I do with the plethera of heartburn medication in my home? Bowel issues seem to be resolved also, I'm only days off of Yasmin. Something very very wrong with this birth control medication. Please someone get this take off the market before others suffered like me. I thought I was losing my mind. Angry at everyone People in general. This crap is horrible. I will use other means to prevent | F | 48 | 12 years | 10/14/2009 | 5 | Birth control and peri-menopause | I have no negative side effects whatsoever. | Using Yaz x1 yr now. Finally missed my first period in between packs. I get no palpitations anymore. No PMDD (suffered severely for years). My skin looks great, I'm losing weight (even managed to land a younger boyfriend!) - as with all bc pills, everyone reacts differently. I started these when they were in clinical trials years ago, did great then, got off, had severe peri-menpause symptoms, went back on, symptoms are completely gone (feeling like I'm having a heart attack scares me enough to stay on Yaz, which gets rid of that feeling). | F | 47 | 1 years | 1/9/2008 | 3 | pre-manopause, avoid cysts | Extremely high triglycerides and Choleterol after taking the pill for 5 years although I had not had a Lipid profile blood test for about 4 years-be alert! Loss of interest in intimacy. | This pill did not give me any other side effects however high triglycerides can cause other dterimental health problems such as pancreatitis. Please make sure youtalk about all these issues with your doctor before going on this or any other pill. | F | 47 | 5 days | 9/8/2006 | 2 | YAZ - birth control | Weight gain of 5+ pounds, bloating, moodiness, extreme breast tenderness. | Took Yasmin for years with little trouble and just recently switched to YAZ. So far I hate the side effects and I am not sure that I want to wait 3 or 4 months to see if they subside. | F | 47 | 3 weeks | 1/24/2007 | 2 | Birth Control | Weight gain. While on the medication I gained 60 lbs. Ones I stop taking the medication the wight has come off with little effort. I feel better and have lots more energy. | F | 47 | 3 years | 5/17/2009 | 1 | to control periods and PTMMS | Yes, two weeks in the hospital from a stroke from Yasmin acording to my Doctor at the Veterans Hospital! This is unfortuantely for real, Truy another method. It is not worth it! | The Food and Drug Administration should take it off the Market!~ | F | 47 | 10 months | 2/15/2008 | 1 | Birth Control | Nausea, depression, moodiness, angry, migranes worsened, joint pain, no energy | I'm so happy to find out what has been wrong with me. I've only been on this a little over two weeks, but the change has been extreme. I will not finish the month. The early period will be worth knowing I'll be getting back to normal. | F | 47 | 2 weeks | 10/18/2005 | 1 | hormone treatment | vertigo, unable to sleep well at night | I was taking lo estrin for 9 months I had so many problems on that so my doctor switched me to Yasmin. By the second day of taking the pill I could not sleep at night. Also woke up in the morning with vertigo. By the 4 day the vertigo was so bad I had to stay in bed most of the day just laying still. This is not the pill for me | F | 47 | 4 days | 1/10/2007 | 5 | Severe migraines, PMDD and acne | Sometimes sleepier in the mornings than usual. Low mood, leg and lower backache if I don't take with supplemental Estradiol cream. | After trying and "failing" all the usual migraine preventives (Amitriptyline, Inderal, Topomax) and continually reaching the limits on my rescue meds. (Relpax, Frova, Norgesic & Vistaril), my neurologist finally prescribed Yasmin for me in an effort to control my severe, hormonally triggered migraines and PMDD. Note, because I do NOT take this for birth control and I am at higher risk for stroke because of my age, I only take 1/4 tablet per day. (Yes, I cut those little Yasmins into quarters!) With this I also use some supplemental Estradiol cream to balance out my hormones, and this combination has proven to be a godsend for me. After suffering for nearly 30 years, I think I'm finally beginning to understand what "normal" actually feels like. I've gone from near constant, low level head pain and as many as 16 full-blown migraine days a month, to zero back-ground pain and only 3 (fully treatable) migraine days a month. I also no longer experience the crushing mood drops and uncontrolled crying that would hit me like a hammer every month with my period. The added bonus has been my skin has cleared up and my hair has become glossy again. I'm dismayed to read how many have suffered awful side effects from Yasmin. But don't just complain and accept the next pill, take the time to educate yourself! READ, READ, READ and become your own expert. The "Women's Health Resource" website offers extensive information on BCPs. It's a great place to start. | F | 46 | 3 months | 5/16/2009 | 4 | birth control, period regulation | severe anxiety, moderate depression, menstral cramping, spotting/staining | No skin problems, headaches, and periods are definitely lighter and more managable. However the anxiety I feel is serious - started about 1 month into taking the pill. I have personal issues in my life I am dealing with - and I think Yasmin may be making coping with them so much more dfficult. Am giving the pill one more month to see if things improve. If not - I will give them up. By the way, I suffer from chronic anxiety/panic attacks and have taken antidepressants (prozac, celexa) for over 10 years. Have been symptom free for all that time - until now! Yikes. | F | 46 | 1.5 months | 11/27/2006 | 5 | PMDD, perimenopause, hair loss | First 3 weeks only: pretty bad nausea and fatigue, cramps, dry mouth, headaches, but they all passed. Longer term side effects: greatly improved mood, greatly reduced food cravings (esp sugar/carbs)resulting in 8 lb weight loss in 8 weeks. Breasts are larger and pretty sore. Increased libido. Increased sensitivity to the sun and heat. No change in acne. | Despite a somewhat difficult initial adjustment period, I LOVE YASMIN! It has pretty much cured my erratic mood swings and given me my emotional equilibrium back. I am a much happier, more positive person now. Note: I am taking it continuously for 3 months at a time. The effect it has had on reducing my out-of-control hormone-related food cravings is also quite dramatic. My Pepperidge Farm intake is down 90%! One warning: I did start to have near panic attacks, but after noticing they all happened in the mornings after my second coffee, I researched this and discovered that birth control pills can greatly intensify the effects of caffeine. If your only bad side effect is anxiety, you might try switching to half-caf or decaf before giving up on Yasmin. I feel terrible for all of you who have suffered on Yasmin, but for me it's my salvation. I haven't been taking it long enough yet to assess any effect on slowing hair loss. | F | 45 | 9 weeks | 6/14/2008 | 3 | PCO & heavy bleeding | Sore breasts; moodiness | Still had heavy bleeding with Yasmin. Now trying continuous dose, and had BTB within 5 weeks. Dr. wants me to switch to Desogen, but reviews are no better. Any advice? | F | 45 | 6 months | 10/14/2007 | 2 | help heavy periods | Terrible frequent thigh, hamstring, leg, and foot spasms Increased emotional lability Skin itching and facial rash, almost hive like Mild nausea first month that went away when I took divided doses. | I was a very healthy 50 y/o who started getting anemic from having heavier periods the least few years. Yasmin was suggested to me and I now am discontinuing it after reading the many side effects reported on this site. This pill has a diuretic component (water pill) and I believe this is what contributed to probable electrolyte imbalances causing my severe muscle cramps. These were severe enough, that I would need to jump up and down or stretch large muscles in the middle of the day or at night. In finally became scary to go to sleep knowing that if I stretched my leg, it would cramp up intensely. I hope this info helps others. Interestingly, I never had any change in routine mild normal uterine cramps during my Yasmin periods. Also, I haven't noticed many other entries listing itching or pruritis. I began noticed facial itchiness and hives after 2 months. I know it was the Yasmin because I'm in the medical field and ruled out other causes. I began to think that I was indeed | F | 45 | 3 months | 7/12/2006 | 2 | YAZ for PMDD | I am taking YAZ. I had been on Ortho Cylen for many years. B/C of symptoms of PMDD was suggested to switch. I noticed an immediate gaining of weight in my hips, rear end and my waist grew 3". My ankles and fingers were swollen. My face erupted in acne. My period disappeared. I also found I was a bit more depressed. (very androgenic side effects)I went back to Cylen for a month and than went back to YAZ (@10days into pack). Just before I started back to the pack of YAZ someone commented that I looked like I lost weight. The other day, I realized that all symptoms mentioned above had returned, as well as the 'lost weight'. I stopped the YAZ yesterday, mid pack, and plan to start back on the cyclen. | F | 45 | 4 months | 6/2/2007 | 1 | Irregular Periods | I took ONE pill and had the worst migraine headache. I could not function for one full day, the pain was so intolerable. | Take Mircette instead. It has low doses of the progestin and estrogen. Lower is better. | F | 45 | 1 days | 4/30/2007 | 1 | Regulate Period, BC | Heart papitations!!! Fatigue, frequent headaches, coughing (due to the palpitations), itchy skin, weight gain, yeast infections, changes in bowel (looser), heavier and more painful periods than before (I had previously taken Orth-tricyclen for 10 years), frequent muscle twitches all over my body and sore gums. | Within several weeks of starting Yasmin, I was in emergency for severe heart palpitations. I had many follow up tests and exams including an echocardigram, which indicated that nothing was apparently wrong with my heart, and a couple blood work-ups, which also indicated everything was in order. I am still experiencing near-constant palpitations. All the other symptoms I noted also coincided with when I began taking Yasmin. Granted, some of these symptoms could be age related, but I have always been a healthy individual who eats right, exercises, sleeps well, has a great, low-stress career and enjoys life. All the symptoms just described came on within the first few months of starting the Yasmin. At first it did not occur to me that Yasmin might be the cause, but I have been going downhill so fast since I starting it, that I began to research all possible causes. Eventually the light dawned. I called my doctor's office to verify the start date and everything fell into place. It | F | 45 | 6 months | 6/10/2008 | 1 | Birth control / mood swings | weight gain, headaches, loss of libido, depression | I had been off bc for two years while trying a final time to get pregnant. While off bc I would have uncontrollable severe crying attacks right before my period. Decided to go back on bc; Dr. prescribed Yasmin to "help with the mood swings" rather than my trusted Demulin which I had been on for 10+ years. On Yasmin I gained weight, had a terrible headache for about one solid week each month, total loss of libido, and, instead of crying fits have just been in a constant state of mild depression. Also, last month, my primary care physician (not the obgyn who prescribed it) said he was "concerned" because my period was happening at a different time than when it should (not during the white pills, but during week after them). I have an appointment this month with my obgyn - I'm getting OFF this pill! | F | 45 | 1 years | 6/2/2008 | 1 | Regulate periods | headaches or migrains every day, weight gain, nausea, high blood pressure, severe depression and mood swings (usually not good moods), trouble sleeping, extreme fatigue, thirsty all the time, on & on | At first I didn't realize it was the pill but as it was the only thing that had changed in my life recently I decided to research and found this website, thank goodness! I'm not totally crazy after all! | F | 45 | 120 days | 3/22/2007 | 1 | Birth control | Extreme sleepiness, headache, depression. | This pill brought on the most bizarre effects. Normally I am very perky during the day. For the past days on this pill I am sleepy all the time, and even almost fell asleep while driving at 2 in the afternoon. Plus, I've had headaches and very dark moods. None of this was the case just days ago before taking this pill. I've called my doctor and requested a different BCP...this one is dangerous. | F | 45 | 17 days | 9/26/2007 | 1 | PMS - Regulate etc | The WORST "M" CRAMPS I have ever had in my life especially during the 4 day white days. I have also experienced leg and foot cramps. It actually feels like my ovaries are being stabbed with a sharp knife. | The doc said to continue on for another month until my body gets used to it. Dont think I can handle another month of this cramping. | F | 45 | 27 days | 5/15/2006 | 3 | birth control, irregular cycle | nausea, fatigue, headache (manageable); hungry all the time but eating results in gastric distress (horrible; I have IBS); constant need to urinate; | First took Yasmin in 2006 for two months and a half; stopped because of gastric distress. Tried again in 2007 for a month and a half; stopped because of gastric distress (horrible diarrhea that took a long time to cure). Briefly tried Yaz for less than a month; stopped as I constantly felt as if I was about to have my periods (cramps, etc). Took Yasmin again for a month this year and had to stop because of gastric distress. Also, I sometimes have to wake up about three times to pee at night! Wanted to try Ortho-Tri-Cyclen but learned it too causes gastric distress. Last night I began using Nuvaring. I hope this works!! | F | 44 | 1 months | 11/8/2008 | 2 | To Regulate Cycle | Extremely low libido, vaginal dryness, depression | I switched from low-ogestrel to Yasmin to help with PMS symptoms. The side effects of Yasmin came on immediately and did not get better over time. It does shorten your period and PMS (moodiness) did improve but mostly due to feeling down. The PMS was not bad enought before Yasmin to continue to use it. I went back on low-ogestrel and felt the difference the first day. My husband and I have both decided a little PMS is not worth the lack of interest in sex that this drug causes. | F | 44 | 7 months | 5/23/2008 | 2 | difficult ovulation | bloating and weight gain | I started taking it to relive the same sx associated w/ ovulation (bloating and abdominal discomfort)--after 1 cycle of YAsmin I am retaining water terribly and can but I barely fit into my clothes--scale registers only 2 lb weight gain but my waist has "thickened" in an unprecedented way | F | 44 | 1 months | 6/11/2008 | 1 | Irregular, very heavy period | suicidal thoughts, extreme emotional responses, no sex drive, extreme weight gain, loss of short-term memory, sudden allergies, loss of learned responses | I told my doc I has suicidal thoughts surrounding and during my cycle. She sent me to a neuroligist. They've all told me I'm clinically depressed. I never had any problems before taking this drug. | F | 44 | 4 years | 8/6/2007 | 1 | PMDD | Constant need to urinate, acute insomnia, RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), severe leg pain (cramps, spasms & twitching), muscle twitching & numbness in all the muscles of my body, a feeling as if my skin was 'crawling' & itchy. | I took Yaz (Berlex) which is the same drug as Yasmin (Bayer). My 1st month on Yaz was great - what woman doesn't want to lose water-weight? Unfortunately, I think I lost precious nutrients along with all that fluid & I'm due for a blood test next week to check my potassium levels. Please note: abnormal potassium levels are dangerous! Potassium regulates our heart rhythm! In all the literature on both Yaz & Yasmin, it states that your MD should check your potassium levels during your 1st month on this drug. I wish I had insisted on a blood test during my 1st month. Doctors are not perfect & we must be in charge of monitoring our own health, as much as possible. Yaz was my last resort for help with my painful, disruptive menstruation. It DID help my PMDD & my mood has been brighter & happier since taking it, but at what cost? I have been in so much physical discomfort that it's not worth it. In fact, this is my 2nd month & although my PMDD has | F | 44 | 2 months | 7/27/2007 | 1 | Regulate periods & birth control. | Extreme breast tenderness. Poor vision. Low sex drive. | F | 44 | 4 months | 5/17/2006 | 1 | Regulate periods & birth control. | Extreme breast tenderness. Poor vision. Low sex drive. | F | 44 | 4 months | 5/17/2006 | 1 | hormone therapy(hot flashes) | Pulmonary Emboli and Pleural Effusion. | DON'T TAKE THIS DRUG. Go with a second generation birth control pill if you need it. It almost killed me. I was healthy, a non-smoker before taking this deadly drug. I actually took Ocella, the generic of Yasmin, but thought I should add a rating here also if it meant possibly saving another woman's life. I am thankful that the clots stopped at my lungs and did not completely stop me from breathing. Now I am disabled from this drug. | F | 44 | 2 weeks 3mg/0.03mg 1X D | 4/26/2010 | 1 | Threat of Ovarian Cancer | My wife has been taking Yasmin for the past 2 months. She experienced regular nausea when travelling in a car, had terrible acne outbreaks, experienced loss of sex drive, but more than anything, has been affected emotionally. | PLEASE HELP!! My wife has turned into an emotional roller coaster. She has extreme reaction to the smallest event and displays absolutely no caring or concern for what she says or does. I really want to save my marriage, which I believe is being severely threatened by this drug. Please, please e-mail me if you have had similar experiences, as my wife refuses to acknowledge that Yasmin has had this effect on her. | M | 44 | 2 months | 1/21/2007 | 5 | Birth Control | Migraines, no sex drive | Have been on Yasmin for 3 years now and have been taking it for 9 weeks straight and then off a week to have a period. It had been working great with no side effects, until.... I started developing horrible migraines the week of my period. Never had migraines ever before. Am considering going off because the migraines are so miserable, but not sure if it is worth the monthly periods and acne. At my age, I'm a little concerned about any major side effects I could get, however, my doctor said I could stay on this BC through menopause which is tempting but not sure it is worth the migraines every 10 weeks! | F | 43 | 3 years | 7/24/2006 | 5 | PCOS,long periods, awful moodiness, | I'm really happy with Yasmin. Once, I had a sore left breast, but have experienced no repetition and can't say it was Yasmin that caused it. My moods are much less erratic; felt like a coiled spring on Dianette - I was not a nice person to know @ period time! and hair growth/loss problems under control.I also use Eflornithine cream on my face (brand name 'Vaniqa')to retard hair growth. Yasmin not stopped hair loss from my head but does seem to have slowed it down. I still have dry eyes, had them for years, was told all pills have that effect but had my eyes lasered so don't do battle with contacts any more.My periods last 5-6 days instead of 14+ and I don't often experience the crippling cramps I used to get or the massive blood flow; one heavy-ish day but that's all. Lost 6-7 pounds, nothing drastic, but as a vegan, weight gain never been an issue and I'm fully aware of extra B vitamins I need to take because pill destroys them. Good job I like Marmite! | Reading all the comments from different people, who have been prescribed Yasmin for all sorts of reasons, it seems clear that this medication works well for some and not so well for others. It is good to be able to share symptoms and discuss experiences since doctors don't broadcast possible side-effects; this is possibly the most effective way of getting an honest idea of the pros and cons of this medication | F | 43 | 2.5 years | 12/30/2008 | 2 | Cramps / Birth Control | Severe weakness, numbness in arms, pain between shoulder blades -- symptoms very similar to heart attack. Also had frequent spotting and long periods. | I took it for over a year when I was about 40 with no side effects from what I could tell and periods were light and on schedule. But after a couple years off when I started taking it again the results were far different. Maybe it was because I was older, but after about a couple months on it I had horrible experiences feeling like I was having a heart attack, severe weak spells. My periods were long...like 9 days and would occur outside the regular schedule. I took them for about 6 more months and after going to urgent care with heart attack like symptoms and EKG and blood tests came out clear I decided to try going off them. Sure enough about a month later I was back to normal and never had those side effects again. I'm done with BC pills -- I think I'm too old for them now anyway! | F | 43 | 9 months | 6/27/2008 | 1 | irritability | I have been taking this pill for 10 days now. I have experienced a subtle cramping 1 week into it. I hate this pill. I am stopping it today and resuming my old BC pill, ortho cyclen. I was not having any real problems with the ortho, but I saw the commercial for Yaz and thought I'd try it. BIG MISTAKE!! | F | 43 | 10 days | 12/13/2007 | 1 | Birth Control | Sudden incredibly high cholesterol. | I'm 43 and have never had blood pressure issues, my cholesterol was always great and suddenly after being on Yasmin it shot up to 256. Got a vague answer from my OB/GYN if Yasmin could be the cause, she told me maybe/maybe not. Ok....I stopped it. | F | 43 | 1 years | 9/14/2007 | 1 | pms/perimenapausal | nausea, severe body aches, hot flashes/chills, crying spells, depression/almost suicidal | like having the 'psychotic flu." | F | 43 | 5 days | 5/9/2007 | 1 | ovarian cysts | ABSOLUTELY AWEFUL!! extreme breast tenderness, irritability, moodiness, depression, anxiety and bloating. extreme thirst and hunger led to weight gain. libido dropped to almost 0!!!! | everyday got worse than the day before!! i felt like i wanted to pop out of my skin i was so bloated!! the only plus was that my skin got very clear. | F | 43 | 14 days | 11/16/2005 | 5 | to prevent pregnancy | None that I can think of and I have been taking this for about 4 years now. | in the beginning as with all birthcontrol pills you feel tired and you have mood swings and the cravings but, over time if you keep on it and take it the same time every single day the side effects go away. I would not recommend a birthcontrol to my daughter unless it worked for me and it did. | F | 42 | 4 years | 12/5/2007 | 3 | Bad Periods | Sex drive reduced to ZERO. Everything else seems fine. | I started on it because I was having terrible periods. It helped with those symptoms but decreased my sex drive to nothing. | F | 42 | 2 years | 5/1/2009 | 1 | Perimenopause symptoms | Nausea, Diarreah, Exhaustion, Not wanting to be around people, Constantly thirsty could not get enough water, sinus issues, dry eyes, cramping in my right calf muscle. | After the second day of taking Yasmin I felt as though my health was falling apart. I have lost six pounds in a month and a half due to the nausea alone. I don't know if it is just coincidence but I have also had sinus issues which I have never had. After getting cramps in my right calf muscle in the middle of the night I had it enough and stopped taking the pill. | F | 42 | 45 days | 6/11/2008 | 1 | BIRTH CONTROL | Itching while on yasmin but when I would have my period this would go away. Then when I would start taking another pack itching would start within a couple of hours. | F | 42 | 4 months | 6/9/2007 | 1 | To help w/perimenopausal symtoms | Heart palpitations - constantly, then nausea, severe, felt very very sick and tired. | I only gave it 3 weeks, granted, not time enough for my body to adjust, but I was just too sick. I couldn't work I felt so awful...and I couldn't afford to take time off work to adjust to a birth control pill. The cure was worse than the curse, as the old saying goes. | F | 42 | 3 weeks | 6/13/2007 | 1 | regulate periods perimenopausal iss | anxiety, severe heart palpitations, spaced out icky feeling, only been on it 3 wks, thinking the cure is worse than the problem I'm taking it for. | How long does this last? Not sure if I should continue to try | F | 42 | 3 weeks | 6/5/2007 | 1 | Birth control | I had to stop taking Yasmin after six weeks (a pack and a half). I had been on Ortho 777 for about 20 years was experiencing severe PMS symptoms for 14 days per month. So, the doc switched me to Yasmin. I had severe diarrhea for the entire six weeks and lost eight pounds that I didn't need to lose. I looked and felt so very ill. I had no appetite and was nauseated all of the time. By the last few days, I was experiencing panic attacks at night. I was extremely dehydrated, my skin was dry and lips were chapped. By the second pack of pills, the veins in my lower left leg began to pop out, and I was experiencing a warm sensation along the side of my shin--not warm to the touch, but warm from the inside out. After one final night of violent diarrhea and anxiety, I threw out the pills. After the first pack I phoned the doc's office and the nurse told me that it usually takes two to three months for a woman's body to adjust to a new pill. But these side effects were much too much t | F | 42 | 6 weeks | 7/31/2006 | 1 | Birth Control | Fatigue, shortness of breath, hair loss, anger episodes, severe nighttime leg cramping | Apparently there are some issues with this new formula that have not been explored. This drug changed my life, for the worse, and it has taken me several months to get myself back to normal. | F | 42 | 5 months | 10/16/2005 | 5 | spotting in-between periods | Fatigue, headache, dizziness, tension, and nausea, nausea, nausea . . . but the side effects are getting better with time. | I became sexually active for the first time at 27! For several months, I tried Triphasic pills combining oestrogen and progesterone followed by Monophasic pills, then by the acne pill—Diane 35--all of which left me bloated and terribly uncomfortable. Then my relationship unraveled, ended, and there followed a lot of non-committal and non-binding encounters which coincided with the death, from AIDS, of several friends and acquaintances. So since then and until May 2006, I’ve sworn by the condom for protection from STDs and for birth control. I began taking Yasmin because of frequent spotting that left me feeling smelly and tired! Except a feeling of fatigue, headache, dizziness, tension that just don’t seem to want to go away, I love Yasmin. I like that it makes me EAT!! Or rather, when I’m on Yasmin, I have this funny pain/nauseous feeling in the pit my stomach that only goes away when I eat. Plus eating seems to alleviate the headache and tension I feel. | F | 41 | 2 months | 6/20/2006 | 4 | Endometriosis | I had 3-4 lb water weight gain. Also have to urinate more frequently at nite. My endometriosis is at bay though. | F | 41 | 2 years | 1/9/2007 | 3 | spotting in-between periods | Fatigue, headache, dizziness, tension, and nausea, nausea, nausea; THEN: horrible sleep disorders--insomnia so bad that I can only sleep 2-3 hours at a go. AND THEN AGAIN: Grastrointestinal disorders => cramps and bloating and gas-but unable to pass gas which remains trapped in the belly causing pain and discomfort. PLUS: Water retention to the point where I can't wear closed shoes . . . | I thought this medication was supposed to be a diuretic but I've had such water retention in my feet that I can't wear closed shoes! Plus the insomnia is driving me crazy. And then again, the gastrointestinal disorders are enormous (I suffer from IBS). Still, the insomnia has made my IBS worse and so has Yasmin. I still have 7 days of active pills to take but I stop today! Can't swallow this poison any longer! | F | 41 | 2.5 months | 7/25/2006 | 2 | PMDD | Nausea, Headaches, | F | 41 | 7 days | 8/24/2007 | 1 | Ovarian Cysts | Extreme nausea, lightheaded, severe fluid retention, migraines, very tired all the time, trouble focusing/concentrating, mood swings, insomnia, increased appetite, foot cramps | I would not recommend this drug to anyone. I have taken a few different brands of bc pills over the years and have never experienced symptoms so bothersome. | F | 41 | 2 weeks | 8/31/2007 | 1 | birth control/shorter periods | vaginal dryness and decreased sex drive | I have only been on Yaz for 1 month, but have noticed extreme vaginal dryness, even with plenty of motivation/foreplay. Orgasms are also hard to come by! Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I will be calling the doctor tomorrow to switch me back to my previous birth control pill. | F | 41 | 1 months | 4/11/2007 | 1 | birth comtrol | thank god for this site. ive only taken yaz for three days and I thought I was in a crazy angry fog. total indifference and depression. I cant believe this is such a popular drug. Can someone tell me if yaz and yasmin are the same?? i see most of the comments are about yasmin. Does anyone have anothe rsugeston for bc pill? thanks everyone who wrote in about this crazy drug. | F | 41 | 3 days | 8/6/2008 | 1 | irregular & very painful cycles | constant nausea, dizziness, vertigo, headaches, blurred vision, dry mouth, stabbing eye pain (intermittent), fatigue, insomnia, depression, anxiety, highly emotional, enlarged & extremely painful breasts | I have taken this medication in previous years (on and off) with no major side effects until recently. I started back up on this pill to alleviate heavy, painful, irregular menstruation approx 6 weeks ago. Although Yasmin proved to be effective in relieving pain and lightening my cycle (in my case), I believe it to be the cause of numerous complications which seem to have developed after having started the pill pack 6 weeks ago. All of the previously described symptoms appeared within that time frame. Six days ago, I stopped taking Yasmin - most of these symptoms have disappeared with the exception of vertigo symptoms (nausea, brain fog, dizziness). The symptoms are intermittent and last for several minutes. | F | 41 | 5 weeks | 10/29/2009 | 5 | reduce menstrual pain/bleeding | The first month I had some light spotting and acne. I lost a pound or two. The second month the acne is gone and no spotting. So far, this pill is working as well, or better (less mid-cycle pain) than Ovcon 35 did for me. Menstrual cramps were moderate (very tolerable!) and easily treated with Ibuprofen and there was hardly any bleeding. Yea! | Very pleased so far. Hope it continues. | F | 40 | 2 months | 3/16/2008 | 5 | avoid pregancy | Virtually none. My hair thinned out a little but that's all. | F | 40 | 2.5 years | 5/22/2007 | 4 | prevent pregnancy | nausea on occasion | Good birth control. | F | 40 | 3 years | 8/26/2007 | 4 | PCOS | NO libido at ALL!!!!! Still get bad cramps. Periods last anywhere from 3-5 days, the 2nd day is so heavy I can't go far from home. I now get hormonal migraines the first 2 days of my period, never had them before. | It has helped me as far as mood swings and my weight. It has also helped me with cravings. | F | 40 | 18 months | 9/4/2008 | 4 | acne | Breakthrough bleeding | I've had great results with Yasmin. My breasts got bigger, my periods a lot lighter, no more cramps, my skin was clear (I suffered from the occasional cystic acne which takes forever to go away) and my mood swings, although still there, were not so bad. However, the breakthrough bleeding was just continuous it was ridiculous! I only had one "bleeding free" week so I had to ask to try other pills. I've been on Diane-35 (severe depression) and now on Mercilon (does not work against acne). I will try another pill after Mercilon if others don't work out well I will go back to Yasmin. Maybe after 3 months the breakthrough bleeding will stop. | F | 40 | 3 months | 6/15/2009 | 3 | perimenopause | gums bleeding, gas, acne | F | 40 | 14 days | 10/29/2007 | 3 | birth control, regulate periods | Increased breast size, breast tenderness, slight weight gain, nausea first couple days of pack, increased blood potassium | I have not been on pills for many, many years and I am really nervous because I did not like my symptoms I had on ortho novum 7/7/7. My gyn gave me this pill based on patients not gaining weight as often. I immediately had an increase in bust size and tenderness. I would say I have gone from a C to a D in just 4 weeks, but the increase only took 10-14 days of pills. I notice my jeans are slightly tighter, but I would guess no more than a 2 pound gain elsewhere...I probably gained a pound in my boobs !! So far I have NOT had a loss of libido, I have not had emotional problems (I had them on other pills) or any of the other problems I see on this board. I am guesssin the breast tenderness will setttle a little over time. So, I am not too unhappy with this pill. There was one more strange effect. I had a urinary tract infection and when they took my blood test, my potassium level was very high. | F | 40 | 1 months | 3/27/2007 | 3 | Peri-Menopause + Painful cycles | constantly thirsty, extreme irrational hunger, bloating/weight gain (duh, wonder why if every day for an hour(+/-) I'm so hungry I eat almost everything in sight without feeling full), tender breasts(?). | I put a ? with the tender breasts, because I was already experiencing that off & on before starting Yasmin. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to stay on this pill, the goal is to shut down my cycles because the pain from lower back cramping gets so bad I can't do anything, barely crawl let alone stand/walk kinda bad pain in my back. I gave it a 3 since I've only been taking it for 8 days so far, to soon to tell if it's going to accomplish the end goal. | F | 40 | 8 days 1X D | 4/19/2010 | 2 | To regulate periods and control PMS | Nausea, muscle cramps and pain, anxiety, odd taste in my mouth, extreme fatigue and heavy chest after only five days on Yasmin. I've also felt weepy and always on the verge of a panic attack. | I am worried. I have mitral valve prolapse anyway and worry about the possiblities of increased palpitations. I've felt awful since starting this pill. My doc encourages me to give it one full month and let my body "even out", but I'm not sure I can take it. | F | 40 | 5 days | 10/24/2005 | 2 | pmt/hormone imbalance | Mood swings, irritability, foot cramps, low libido, sore breasts, persistant bleeding even when only taking 'active' pills, extreme fatigue. | I wish I had found this site before I asked my doctor for this medication as it would have saved me 10 weeks of feeling negative about absolutely everything! I am shocked that a contraceptive pill could actually make me feel 'Psycho'. I am into my 3rd day of quitting and now have a migraine from hell. If you are considering this medication and you are sensitive to hormones (and if you already suffer PMT) consider another pill because this will not help your cause!!!! | F | 40 | 3 days | 1/8/2007 | 1 | painful menses | Terrible sore throat, lots of phlegm, exquisitely sore breasts | Yasmin did seem to level out my moods so that not everything bothered me so much | F | 40 | 6 days | 6/4/2006 | 1 | Loss of vision, mood swings, thoughts of suicide, uncontrollable rages, lack of enery, loss of sex drive. I was a completely normal, happy go lucky, overachieving individual before I took this dangerous drug! Thank God my husband did some research and got to the bottom of what was driving me out of my body and mind for 8 months! When I called my doctor about it he was shocked and apologized profusely for not knowing about the side effects. I believe this drug got past the trials and on to the market a little too quick. I feel sure there are women out there that have lost thier lives to it. | F | 40 | 8 months | 5/10/2007 | 1 | regulate period and acne | After being on birth control pills on and off for 20 years, I developed a very serious deep vein thrombosis (DVT). It landed me in the hospital for 4 days. I have permanent vein damage (painful). I am on blood thinners (very dangerous!)!!! | F | 40 | 2 years | 8/20/2008 | 1 | BC & lighter period - less cramping | THINNING Hair in the front center of my head! I am getting off this pill right now after reading all of the side effects that it can cause. My blood pressure has also been up some lately and I have gained a good bit of weight. I also have more frequent urination. Not sure if all of this has been caused by Yasmin or not, but I would guess yes. | F | 40 | 10 months | 6/4/2008 | 1 | Endo/PCOS/regulate period | Nausea, depression, anxiety, weight gain, tired all the time, and Migraines | OMG I cannot believe it's taken me this long to put this all together!! I started taking this poison 3 yrs ago (shortly after the birth of my daughter) and ever since I've been a nut case! I've been to countless doctors for every symptom, the neurologist for the migraines, an internal specialist for the nausea, a GP for the anxiety/depression ---they all wanted to throw even more meds at me and NOT ONE OF THEM ever suggested that it could be the Yasmin (which is the only med that I take)!! ARGH, I'm furious about feeling like I'm going crazy and being horribly miserable for years, not to even mention the medical bills!! I've taken my last pill and really wish that I could get my last 3 yrs back! | F | 40 | 3 years | 11/7/2008 | 5 | bc, pms, and menstrual cramps | lighter periods, regular periods, mood stabilized, | Love it. I'm 39 and have never been able to take bc pills. They tended to make me feel irritable and angry. These are the first ones that don't give me psych. side effects | F | 39 | 7 months | 11/11/2005 | 5 | induce lactation | breast pain, enlargement tenderness. | F | 39 | 30 days | 11/26/2005 | 4 | birth control, acne | better skin, breast fullness, regular periods | clears skin and excess facial hair growth, breasts are sore a week before period but worth it for the extra fullness and to be able to fill out bra. Sex drive is great. I believe if you have naturally lower testosterone in your body this pill wouldnt be good. but if like me and have naturally higher than its great | F | 39 | 1 years | 1/30/2007 | 4 | irregular periods | Nausea and insomnia for the first few months; weight gain of 6 pounds (I am petite and am small-boned, so this was a significant and disappointing increase); tender breasts and swelling two weeks a month. | Yaz: Obvious benefits: regular, light periods; decreased cramps and PMS; clear, luminous skin; after a few months of adjusting, no side effects other than breast tenderness/swelling and weight gain (cellulite--not just heavier), which has been next to impossible to reduce. I am an active, petite vegetarian and have never had to worry about weight, even post-childbirth, but Yaz and Yasmin made me pile on the pounds and fat and I can't lose weight no matter what I do. It's a real dilemma: return to irregular periods and (probably) lose the weight, or stay fat and regular? | F | 39 | 2 years | 3/28/2008 | 3 | Birth control, acne, cramping | I took Yazmin for years and loved it!!Though i did get dark marks around my eyes from it otherwise known as....Melasma...Migraines during my period made me switch to YAZ.I have only been on it for a week,..so i'm hoping the headaches get better with YAZ~ | I actually lost weight on Yasmin and my skin was so much better other then the Melasma,..my acne was gone! | F | 39 | 5 years | 10/20/2008 | 3 | Birth Control | Moodiness, irritability, anxiety, depression, leg cramping, night sweats, significant weight gain. | I began taking Yasmin in either late 2005 or early 2006, I can't. While exercising regularly and maintaining the same overall eating habits; I gained weight. There were weeks where I gained 10 pounds with no rhyme or reason and nothing would help to lose it. My body did not have any physical changes to the exercise I was doing. I was frustrated beyond belief. Over the past few weeks, I began hearing more and more about Yasmin and complications people were having. This past weekend, I had a ton of time to do some thinking (I was painting my house) and was thinking a lot about Yasmin. I began constructing a time line in my head and began to wonder if the Yasmin was at all related to my weight gain, I began piecing the calendar in my head. I began researching some of the side effects of Yasmin and realized that while some people had no side effects, many people exhibited symptoms that I too was experiencing. I have been more irritable and moody, and a host of the other side effects I have seen. I sent a link to my boyfriend to read and his response was 'oh my, you have most of these'. We were together prior to my taking Yasmin. | F | 39 | 4 years | 1/14/2010 | 2 | Mood swings, regulated periods, PMS | Stress, anxiety, nervousness, loss of creativity, nausea, sleeplessness, heavier periods, and headaches. | I agree with all the comments here. Firstly no medication suits everyone. For me I though I was going insane. The increased stress, and panic attacks, the anxiety developing into panic, the paranoia, and sleeplessness. As an artist I was having a hard time creating, so my job was suffering too. My GYN kept saying that this pill cures all of that; not causes it. Thankfully a neighbor had started it and was having the same issues, so I knew I wasn’t truly in need of mental help. I decided to switch and all the side effects have gone. | F | 39 | 3 months | 6/1/2008 | 2 | contraception | Breast tenderness, BAD BAD mood swings, dehydrated, dry!! | It did not work for me. It was not worth it for me. | F | 39 | 3 months | 3/7/2006 | 2 | birth control | no sex drive, yeast infections, irritability | I've never have problems with other birth control pills. But if I don't get off this one soon I'm going to go crazy. | F | 39 | 8 months | 4/27/2006 | 1 | Birth Control\Acne | None really | The problems started when I went OFF the Yasmin. Anxiety, Depression, Panic Attacks, weight gain, Heart Palpatations, etc...The past 3 years since I stopped taking Yasmin have been a living nightmare. Don't even start taking this pill, because eventually you will have to go off it, and that's when the trouble begins. | F | 39 | 2 years | 3/25/2008 | 1 | birth control | constantly tired, weight gain around my abdomin, bloating, complete destruction of my sex drive | This pill stinks! I fall asleep every night by 9:00 pm, my pants are all tight around the waist, I get indigestion often and/ or diarrhea, and I have completely lost all interest in sex. I took Ortho Novum for years and had no big issues other than a 5-8 pound weight gain and some acne. My OB/GYN put me on Yasmin after I had my third child because it was suppose to clear up my complexion and not make you gain weight. Nothing major was noticeable at first, but then it became obvious that I was always tired. Went to my MD, who said everything checks out and that I just have a busy life with work/kids etc. I start growing a beer gut and gained 15 pounds over 12 months. I watch what I eat, I run, I go to the gym 3X week. One day it struck me that I haven't had a love making session with my wonderful and good looking husband for almost 2 months, and I hadn't missed it. Before this pill, we would have sex at least twice a week, and I LOVED it! Yasmin made me totally indifferent. I | F | 39 | 2 years | 4/28/2007 | 1 | Irrecular period | Weight-gain, migraines, complete loss of libido. Was on Yasmin ~2 yrs; YAZ ~3 months. | Prescription ran out - two days w/out Yasmin, started experiencing strong heart palpitations. I run 20-30 mi/week; never had this before. Gyno put me on YAZ (no Yasmin samples), nothing changed. After 3 months of heart palps, gave up and quit. Two-and-a-half months later, weight gain is gone, no migraines, *still* experiencing heart palps although not as strongly or as frequently. This cannot be healthy. Please talk about the comments on this site w/ your Dr before going on either pill. | F | 39 | 2 years | 7/15/2007 | 1 | BC | The first few months were ok, but then I started to gain weight around my hips and stomach - I never had a belly before. I was so bloated. My thighs got big and my breasts went from a large B to a D! And I was watching what I was eating. NO desire for sex, extreme fatigue - I could sleep all day and still be exhausted. I actually started to think I was depressed, I didn't what to do anything or go anywhere - I was just miserable. It would take nothing for me to flip out and start screaming. I had a very hard time concentrating and keeping focused. My skin became very dry and tight feeling. I have always been easy going and even tempered, this pill really screwed me up! | My last pill was on 6/3/07. I already feel like my old self again. My waist is 2 inches smaller, my hips are looking thinner too, and my breasts do not feel as large and tender. Last weekend I was out of bed by 8am, I feel as though the fog has finally lifted! My husband is much happier too.. I am so glad I found this site because I thought I was loosing my mind. Reading that so many other women were having the same problems I knew it had to be the pill. | F | 39 | 8 months | 6/20/2007 | 1 | birth control | nausea, diarrhea, spider veins, headaches, vomiting | I've been taking it for about six months. It didn't occur to me that the 'pill' was causing my symptoms until my friend suggested it. I am going to stop taking it right away. It's been a really horrible six months. I was really worried about my health. I hope it was just these stupid pills! | F | 39 | 6 months | 7/23/2007 | 5 | Birh Control & PMDD | I am VERY tired and experience mild cramping throughout the month. Slight trouble sleeping and when I do, I dream and sweat. :) HOWEVER, my severe mood swings (depression, anger, etc) have ended comletely. YASMIN has SAVED MY LIFE! | F | 38 | 65 days | 5/27/2007 | 5 | PCOS,Hairloss, oily skin, acne | Urinating in the middle of the night but it went away after 1 pack.Breakthrough bleeding for 3 packs-now none. | I LOVE this pill. Its stopped my hair shedding to the point where my hair grew back and my temples filled in.My skin is no longer oily and its clear.I stopped it once for 6 mo and the symptoms came back-restarted it and now they're gone again.I will never go off this pill again.I think it works best for people with PCOS and high androgens. | F | 38 | 3 years 1X D | 5/29/2010 | 4 | Bad PMS | some chest tightness, heart racing, decreased libido, breast tenderness, skin cleared up | I've never been able to take bc pills because they made me throw up, and I tried nuvaring last year which made me completely depressed. I had slight nausea the first couple of weeks on Yaz but then that went away. I also had that weird hunger feeling in the pit of my stomach described by someone else on this message board, but that went away too. (Can someone tell me when this new version came out...and shouldn't there be a separate message board for Yaz vs Yasmin if they are different?) I have felt some chest tightness and heart racing...but not sure if that's from a bad bronchitis-like cold I have right now. I don't feel depressed like I did on Nuvaring so that's a good sign, and my skin has been better. I do feel like my sex drive has decreased. If that continues, I am going off of this for sure. | F | 38 | 5 weeks | 9/11/2006 | 4 | birth control | i'm taking yasmin for 2 months now, and this seems to be a happy pill for me. my boyfriend of 12 years sees quite an improvement in my humour. in comparison to the others that i've tried over the years, this has me in such a happy positive mood. i don't get headaches/migraines or leg cramps like i used to with other pills, my acne seems to be clearing, and i'm slowly loosing weight. my libido is low, but it's been like that since i switched from the coil to the pill years ago - nothing seems to make a difference, not even when i stopped all contraception for a year and a half. | F | 38 | 2 months | 5/8/2007 | 3 | Birth Control | None that I'm aware of | Been taking Yasmin for birth control and endometriosis. Noticed that my monthly doesn't always come when expected, and doesn't stop when I start taking the first pill- a little annoying. But other than that, I don't have severe cramps which is great and no bad side effects that I'm aware of! | F | 38 | 3 years | 4/14/2007 | 3 | birth control, regulate cramps | brest tenderness, dry mouth | my brests are & have remained very tender and have incresed in size, skin broke out but may stabilize...will try for 2 more months and then decide. | F | 38 | 2 months | 7/17/2006 | 3 | Birth Control and painful cycle | Cramps in my feet, Severe heart palpitations, depleted sex drive, fatigue (which I had not attributed to Yasmin, until I visited this site. I took Yasmin 2 1/2 years ago, I had severe heart palpitations. After visiting many physicians including cardiologist, I was told of the impact of Yasmin on your hormones and the resulting effects. However, I decided to try it again and after 4 months, I am back to palpitations and significant irregular heart beats again. | Yasmin keeps me regular and my cycle is definitely shorter, and my cycle is free of pain. | F | 38 | 2 days | 11/16/2006 | 2 | prevent pregnancy | Sore swollen breasts, nausea, aversion to favorite foods (ie coffee) | Helped me lose the weight I gained with last pill. No appreciable change in libido. | F | 38 | 2 months | 1/2/2008 | 1 | birth control | all-day-everyday-migraines, weight gain in the upper thighs and butt, nausea, vomitting, feeling like blood sugar was low, feeling suddenly like fainting. i was only on yasmin for 1 month, but I am sick already. I had no idea there were such serious side effects associated with this drug. i hope they go away soon... the headaches are relentless. | F | 38 | 1 months | 6/29/2007 | 1 | Birth control, complexion issues | I am happy to have found this site. I have been on Yasmin I believe about 3 years. I am educated in the insurance industry, so I should have known better. I really thought I was going crazy. My mood swings have been horrible for a long time. I am snap at my family just saying everyday things. I sound angry even when I am not. I know I am doing this, but can not control it. I get terrible headaches, muscle stiffness, nausea, exhaustion, and I have gained weight. I also have issues with severe anxiety and wake up in a panic sweating at times. I got hot flashes out of the blue. I have come to the conclusion I need to be off of this pill immediately and I believe that I will start to feel better. I will keep you posted. | F | 38 | 3 years | 9/4/2007 |
