3	Perimenopause & Birth Control	Not the normal pill side effects, but fatigue, depressed feeling, weakness, joint stiffness, lack of endurance during any physical activity.	After 11 months on YAZ, I quit taking it 8 days ago. I was 8 pills into the pack & could not take the fatigue, depressed feeling, weakness, joint stiffness & lack of endurance during any physical activities any longer. I realized I wasted a year taking this pill and withdrew from all the things I love to do (the things that make me who I am)because of how I was feeling. Yes, it kept me calm, but whenever I tried to do anything I felt anxious & then I'd be exhausted afterwards like an adrenaline crash. I became very concerned about the diuretic in YAZ as I am also small frame thin person. When I researched drosperenone I found many women complaining of the same debilitating affects of this pill & its diuretic. I have never experienced the level of side effects I have with this birth control pill. If it hasn't effected some women yet, it likely will as it seems to take up to several years to "raise it's ugly head". It only took me 3 months and I was only on for 5. Things got worse when I STOPPED; the weight gain continued(I gained 20-25 pounds since stopping). Nothing is making this weight budge and I've been off for 4 months now. I registered complaints with Berlax Labs and the FDA. I suggest anyone displeased with this horrible pill do the same. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a class action law suit brought and I would be one of the first to jump on that bandwagon. 1	to prevent pregnancy	It was okay in the beginning, but THEN...severe heartburn, taking zanez, prilosec, tums endlessly, ritadrine etc. Had a Hpilory workup for the disease that heartburn causes to the esophogus. Right arm with numbness. Bowel issues with leaking feces. No constipation, but endless movements. Dry skin, blurry vision. The list is endless. This stuff is poison. I don't know why Bayer who markets Yasmin and Ocella is not taken off the market. I started to have sleep issues so the Doc told me to get off the Ocella, knockoff of Yasmin. Like magic, the heartburn disappeared in 24 hours. Unbelievable. Now what do I do with the plethera of heartburn medication in my home? Bowel issues seem to be resolved also, I'm only days off of Yasmin. Something very very wrong with this birth control medication. 5	Birth control and peri-menopause	I have no negative side effects whatsoever.	Using Yaz x1 yr now. Finally missed my first period in between packs. I get no palpitations anymore. No PMDD (suffered severely for years). My skin looks great, I'm losing weight (even managed to land a younger boyfriend!) - as with all bc pills, everyone reacts differently. 3	pre-manopause, avoid cysts	Extremely high triglycerides and Choleterol after taking the pill for 5 years although I had not had a Lipid profile blood test for about 4 years-be alert! Loss of interest in intimacy.	This pill did not give me any other side effects however high triglycerides can cause other dterimental health problems such as pancreatitis. 5	Severe migraines, PMDD and acne	Sometimes sleepier in the mornings than usual. Low mood, leg and lower backache if I don't take with supplemental Estradiol cream.	After trying and "failing" all the usual migraine preventives (Amitriptyline, Inderal, Topomax) and continually reaching the limits on my rescue meds. (Relpax, Frova, Norgesic & Vistaril), my neurologist finally prescribed Yasmin for me in an effort to control my severe, hormonally triggered migraines and PMDD. Note, because I do NOT take this for birth control and I am at higher risk for stroke because of my age, I only take 1/4 tablet per day. (Yes, I cut those little Yasmins into quarters!) With this I also use some supplemental Estradiol cream to balance out my hormones, and this combination has proven to be a godsend for me. After suffering for nearly 30 years, I think I'm finally beginning to understand what "normal" actually feels like. I've gone from near constant, low level head pain and as many as 16 full-blown migraine days a month, to zero back-ground pain and only 3 (fully treatable) migraine days a month. I also no longer experience the crushing mood drops and uncontrolled crying that would hit me like a hammer every month with my period. The added bonus has been my skin has cleared up and my hair has become glossy again. I'm dismayed to read how many have suffered awful side effects from Yasmin. But don't just complain and accept the next pill, take the time to educate yourself! READ, READ, READ and become your own expert. However the anxiety I feel is serious - started about 1 month into taking the pill. 5	PMDD, perimenopause, hair loss	First 3 weeks only: pretty bad nausea and fatigue, cramps, dry mouth, headaches, but they all passed. Longer term side effects: greatly improved mood, greatly reduced food cravings (esp sugar/carbs)resulting in 8 lb weight loss in 8 weeks. Breasts are larger and pretty sore. Increased libido. Increased sensitivity to the sun and heat. No change in acne.	Despite a somewhat difficult initial adjustment period, I LOVE YASMIN! It has pretty much cured my erratic mood swings and given me my emotional equilibrium back. I am a much happier, more positive person now. Note: I am taking it continuously for 3 months at a time. The effect it has had on reducing my out-of-control hormone-related food cravings is also quite dramatic. My Pepperidge Farm intake is down 90%! One warning: I did start to have near panic attacks, but after noticing they all happened in the mornings after my second coffee, I researched this and discovered that birth control pills can greatly intensify the effects of caffeine. If your only bad side effect is anxiety, you might try switching to half-caf or decaf before giving up on Yasmin. 2	help heavy periods	Terrible frequent thigh, hamstring, leg, and foot spasms Increased emotional lability Skin itching and facial rash, almost hive like Mild nausea first month that went away when I took divided doses.	I was a very healthy 50 y/o who started getting anemic from having heavier periods the least few years. Yasmin was suggested to me and I now am discontinuing it after reading the many side effects reported on this site. This pill has a diuretic component (water pill) and I believe this is what contributed to probable electrolyte imbalances causing my severe muscle cramps. These were severe enough, that I would need to jump up and down or stretch large muscles in the middle of the day or at night. In finally became scary to go to sleep knowing that if I stretched my leg, it would cramp up intensely. I hope this info helps others. Interestingly, I never had any change in routine mild normal uterine cramps during my Yasmin periods. Also, I haven't noticed many other entries listing itching or pruritis. 2	YAZ for PMDD	I am taking YAZ. I had been on Ortho Cylen for many years. B/C of symptoms of PMDD was suggested to switch. I noticed an immediate gaining of weight in my hips, rear end and my waist grew 3". My ankles and fingers were swollen. My face erupted in acne. My period disappeared. I also found I was a bit more depressed. (very androgenic side effects)I went back to Cylen for a month and than went back to YAZ (@10days into pack). Just before I started back to the pack of YAZ someone commented that I looked like I lost weight. 1	Regulate Period, BC	Heart papitations!!! Fatigue, frequent headaches, coughing (due to the palpitations), itchy skin, weight gain, yeast infections, changes in bowel (looser), heavier and more painful periods than before (I had previously taken Orth-tricyclen for 10 years), frequent muscle twitches all over my body and sore gums.	Within several weeks of starting Yasmin, I was in emergency for severe heart palpitations. I had many follow up tests and exams including an echocardigram, which indicated that nothing was apparently wrong with my heart, and a couple blood work-ups, which also indicated everything was in order. I am still experiencing near-constant palpitations. All the other symptoms I noted also coincided with when I began taking Yasmin. Granted, some of these symptoms could be age related, but I have always been a healthy individual who eats right, exercises, sleeps well, has a great, low-stress career and enjoys life. All the symptoms just described came on within the first few months of starting the Yasmin. At first it did not occur to me that Yasmin might be the cause, but I have been going downhill so fast since I starting it, that I began to research all possible causes. Eventually the light dawned. The side effects of Yasmin came on immediately and did not get better over time. It does shorten your period and PMS (moodiness) did improve but mostly due to feeling down. The PMS was not bad enought before Yasmin to continue to use it. I went back on low-ogestrel and felt the difference the first day. 1	PMDD	Constant need to urinate, acute insomnia, RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), severe leg pain (cramps, spasms & twitching), muscle twitching & numbness in all the muscles of my body, a feeling as if my skin was 'crawling' & itchy.	I took Yaz (Berlex) which is the same drug as Yasmin (Bayer). My 1st month on Yaz was great - what woman doesn't want to lose water-weight? Unfortunately, I think I lost precious nutrients along with all that fluid & I'm due for a blood test next week to check my potassium levels. Please note: abnormal potassium levels are dangerous! Potassium regulates our heart rhythm! In all the literature on both Yaz & Yasmin, it states that your MD should check your potassium levels during your 1st month on this drug. I wish I had insisted on a blood test during my 1st month. Doctors are not perfect & we must be in charge of monitoring our own health, as much as possible. Yaz was my last resort for help with my painful, disruptive menstruation. It DID help my PMDD & my mood has been brighter & happier since taking it, but at what cost? 1	Threat of Ovarian Cancer	My wife has been taking Yasmin for the past 2 months. She experienced regular nausea when travelling in a car, had terrible acne outbreaks, experienced loss of sex drive, but more than anything, has been affected emotionally.	PLEASE HELP!! My wife has turned into an emotional roller coaster. She has extreme reaction to the smallest event and displays absolutely no caring or concern for what she says or does. I really want to save my marriage, which I believe is being severely threatened by this drug. 5	Birth Control	Migraines, no sex drive	Have been on Yasmin for 3 years now and have been taking it for 9 weeks straight and then off a week to have a period. It had been working great with no side effects, until.... I started developing horrible migraines the week of my period. Never had migraines ever before. Am considering going off because the migraines are so miserable, but not sure if it is worth the monthly periods and acne. 5	PCOS,long periods,awful moodiness,	I'm really happy with Yasmin. Once, I had a sore left breast, but have experienced no repetition and can't say it was Yasmin that caused it. My moods are much less erratic; felt like a coiled spring on Dianette - I was not a nice person to know @ period time! and hair growth/loss problems under control.I also use Eflornithine cream on my face (brand name 'Vaniqa')to retard hair growth. Yasmin not stopped hair loss from my head but does seem to have slowed it down. I still have dry eyes, had them for years, was told all pills have that effect but had my eyes lasered so don't do battle with contacts any more.My periods last 5-6 days instead of 14+ and I don't often experience the crippling cramps I used to get or the massive blood flow; one heavy-ish day but that's all. Lost 6-7 pounds, nothing drastic, but as a vegan, weight gain never been an issue and I'm fully aware of extra B vitamins I need to take because pill destroys them. Good job I like Marmite! 2	Cramps / Birth Control	Severe weakness, numbness in arms, pain between shoulder blades -- symptoms very similar to heart attack. Also had frequent spotting and long periods.	I took it for over a year when I was about 40 with no side effects from what I could tell and periods were light and on schedule. But after a couple years off when I started taking it again the results were far different. Maybe it was because I was older, but after about a couple months on it I had horrible experiences feeling like I was having a heart attack, severe weak spells. My periods were long...like 9 days and would occur outside the regular schedule. I took them for about 6 more months and after going to urgent care with heart attack like symptoms and EKG and blood tests came out clear I decided to try going off them. 1	Birth control	I had to stop taking Yasmin after six weeks (a pack and a half). I had been on Ortho 777 for about 20 years was experiencing severe PMS symptoms for 14 days per month. So, the doc switched me to Yasmin. I had severe diarrhea for the entire six weeks and lost eight pounds that I didn't need to lose. I looked and felt so very ill. I had no appetite and was nauseated all of the time. By the last few days, I was experiencing panic attacks at night. I was extremely dehydrated, my skin was dry and lips were chapped. By the second pack of pills, the veins in my lower left leg began to pop out, and I was experiencing a warm sensation along the side of my shin--not warm to the touch, but warm from the inside out. After one final night of violent diarrhea and anxiety, I threw out the pills. After the first pack I phoned the doc's office and the nurse told me that it usually takes two to three months for a woman's body to adjust to a new pill. I became sexually active for the first time at 27! For several months, I tried Triphasic pills combining oestrogen and progesterone followed by Monophasic pills, then by the acne pill—Diane 35--all of which left me bloated and terribly uncomfortable. Then my relationship unraveled, ended, and there followed a lot of non-committal and non-binding encounters which coincided with the death, from AIDS, of several friends and acquaintances. So since then and until May 2006, I’ve sworn by the condom for protection from STDs and for birth control. I began taking Yasmin because of frequent spotting that left me feeling smelly and tired! Except a feeling of fatigue, headache, dizziness, tension that just don’t seem to want to go away, I love Yasmin. I like that it makes me EAT!! Or rather, when I’m on Yasmin, I have this funny pain/nauseous feeling in the pit my stomach that only goes away when I eat. Plus eating seems to alleviate the headache and tension I feel. 1	irregular & very painful cycles	constant nausea, dizziness, vertigo, headaches, blurred vision, dry mouth, stabbing eye pain (intermittent), fatigue, insomnia, depression, anxiety, highly emotional, enlarged & extremely painful breasts	I have taken this medication in previous years (on and off) with no major side effects until recently. I started back up on this pill to alleviate heavy, painful, irregular menstruation approx 6 weeks ago. Although Yasmin proved to be effective in relieving pain and lightening my cycle (in my case), I believe it to be the cause of numerous complications which seem to have developed after having started the pill pack 6 weeks ago. All of the previously described symptoms appeared within that time frame. Six days ago, I stopped taking Yasmin - most of these symptoms have disappeared with the exception of vertigo symptoms (nausea, brain fog, dizziness). My breasts got bigger, my periods a lot lighter, no more cramps, my skin was clear (I suffered from the occasional cystic acne which takes forever to go away) and my mood swings, although still there, were not so bad. However, the breakthrough bleeding was just continuous it was ridiculous! I only had one "bleeding free" week so I had to ask to try other pills. I've been on Diane-35 (severe depression) and now on Mercilon (does not work against acne). I will try another pill after Mercilon if others don't work out well I will go back to Yasmin. My gyn gave me this pill based on patients not gaining weight as often. I immediately had an increase in bust size and tenderness. I would say I have gone from a C to a D in just 4 weeks, but the increase only took 10-14 days of pills. I notice my jeans are slightly tighter, but I would guess no more than a 2 pound gain elsewhere...I probably gained a pound in my boobs !! So far I have NOT had a loss of libido, I have not had emotional problems (I had them on other pills) or any of the other problems I see on this board. I am guesssin the breast tenderness will setttle a little over time. So, I am not too unhappy with this pill. There was one more strange effect. While exercising regularly and maintaining the same overall eating habits; I gained weight. There were weeks where I gained 10 pounds with no rhyme or reason and nothing would help to lose it. My body did not have any physical changes to the exercise I was doing. I was frustrated beyond belief. Over the past few weeks, I began hearing more and more about Yasmin and complications people were having. This past weekend, I had a ton of time to do some thinking (I was painting my house) and was thinking a lot about Yasmin. I began constructing a time line in my head and began to wonder if the Yasmin was at all related to my weight gain, I began piecing the calendar in my head. I began researching some of the side effects of Yasmin and realized that while some people had no side effects, many people exhibited symptoms that I too was experiencing. I have been more irritable and moody, and a host of the other side effects I have seen. I sent a link to my boyfriend to read and his response was 'oh my, you have most of these'. I run 20-30 mi/week; never had this before. Gyno put me on YAZ (no Yasmin samples), nothing changed. After 3 months of heart palps, gave up and quit. Two-and-a-half months later, weight gain is gone, no migraines, *still* experiencing heart palps although not as strongly or as frequently. This cannot be healthy. 1	BC	The first few months were ok, but then I started to gain weight around my hips and stomach - I never had a belly before. I was so bloated. My thighs got big and my breasts went from a large B to a D! And I was watching what I was eating. NO desire for sex, extreme fatigue - I could sleep all day and still be exhausted. I actually started to think I was depressed, I didn't what to do anything or go anywhere - I was just miserable. It would take nothing for me to flip out and start screaming. I had a very hard time concentrating and keeping focused. My skin became very dry and tight feeling. I have always been easy going and even tempered, this pill really screwed me up! I had slight nausea the first couple of weeks on Yaz but then that went away. I also had that weird hunger feeling in the pit of my stomach described by someone else on this message board, but that went away too. (Can someone tell me when this new version came out...and shouldn't there be a separate message board for Yaz vs Yasmin if they are different?) I have felt some chest tightness and heart racing...but not sure if that's from a bad bronchitis-like cold I have right now. I don't feel depressed like I did on Nuvaring so that's a good sign, and my skin has been better. I do feel like my sex drive has decreased. If that continues, I am going off of this for sure. 4	birth control	i'm taking yasmin for 2 months now, and this seems to be a happy pill for me. my boyfriend of 12 years sees quite an improvement in my humour. in comparison to the others that i've tried over the years, this has me in such a happy positive mood. i don't get headaches/migraines or leg cramps like i used to with other pills, my acne seems to be clearing, and i'm slowly loosing weight. my libido is low, but it's been like that since i switched from the coil to the pill years ago - nothing seems to make a difference, not even when i stopped all contraception for a year and a half. I really thought I was going crazy. My mood swings have been horrible for a long time. I am snap at my family just saying everyday things. I sound angry even when I am not. I know I am doing this, but can not control it. I get terrible headaches, muscle stiffness, nausea, exhaustion, and I have gained weight. I also have issues with severe anxiety and wake up in a panic sweating at times. I got hot flashes out of the blue.
