1  to prevent pregnancy It was okay in the beginning, but THEN...severe heartburn, taking zanez, prilosec, tums endlessly, ritadrine etc. Had a Hpilory workup for the disease that heartburn causes to the esophogus. Right arm with numbness. Bowel issues with leaking feces. No constipation, but endless movements. Dry skin, blurry vision. The list is endless. This stuff is poison. I don't know why Bayer who markets Yasmin and Ocella is not taken off the market. I started to have sleep issues so the Doc told me to get off the Ocella, knockoff of Yasmin. Like magic, the heartburn disappeared in 24 hours. Unbelievable. Now what do I do with the plethera of heartburn medication in my home? Bowel issues seem to be resolved also, I'm only days off of Yasmin. Something very very wrong with this birth control medication. Please someone get this take off the market before others suffered like me. I thought I was losing my mind. Angry at everyone People in general. This crap is horrible. I will use other means to prevent F 48 12 years

4  irregular periods excesiv androgens breast enlargement, breast tenderness, migraines My OB-GYN claims tenderness & migraine not linked to these hormones. I suspect otherwise, especially after reading other women's reviews. Treating tenderness with 400 I.U. Vitamin E - really helps. Treating migraines with TOPAMAX. Nothin' like taking a prescription to treat a prescription. yuck. On the other hand, my cycles are now normal, and i am saving my good eggs in case i ever earn enough to support a family.  4  Birth Control Ocella: depression, anxiety, mood swings, terrible boating, fatigue, lack of sex drive, heavy spotting in mid cycle, dehydration Yasmin: similar to Ocella but MUCH less I was on Ortho Cyclene, Ortho tri-cyclene for 3 years before I switched to Yasmin. I loved it, all the side effects that I had with Ortho were gone and I felt normal on Yasmin. It's been 10 years, and for 3 years in between, I was put on Ocella by my insurance. I had a terrible experience with Ocella, as the years wore on; depression, anxiety, mood swings, terrible boating, fatigue, lack of sex drive... I was not happy and neither was my boyfriend. I requested to be put back onto Yasmin and have been back on it for a year and a half now. The heavy spotting stopped, the bloating is much less, the mood swings and depression are less, but the anxiety is still there. I still feel tired all the time. This is troubling me because even if I'm not doing anything, my chest feels heavy and it's hard to breethe. I get out of breath and my legs feel heavy and tired from just walking. I don't have a sedentary lifestyle or job and I'm not close to being even slightly overweight, so I can't attribute it to that. I did read some of the "new" side effects caused by abnormal potassium levels and it caught my attention. I'm in my early 30s and have been on this kind of BPC for 10 years. I may be well on my way to damaging my adrenal glands, which is scarrry. I am contemplating getting off BCPs all together or switching. I just don't know, either way you go, you run the same health risks or you risk getting pregnant... F 33 10 years

5  anti conception none it doesnt make me notious and there is no extra weight gaining. If u have stomac paines everymonth or havy cramps this will be a life saver. Since my sister was really sick everymonth when she had her period it totally stopt when she started taking Yasmin. Also our stomac isnt that sensitive anymore. For the people who r wondering about acne. I "still" have acne a bit on my chin and forehead from time to time, but i cant say Yasmin stopt that. It kinda reduced but it never cleaned up like i hoped it would. Maybe it depends on the person, no skin is the same. F 28 8 years

3  birth control/menstrual pain extremely over-emotional, increased anxiety, yeast infections i started this pill when i was 17 due to experiencing very painful cramps during my period. it did alleviate this problem and was effective as a contraceptive. after 3-4 years of taking it, i began having extreme emotional problems that recurred monthly around the time of my period. i also got 3-4 yeast infections throughout the course of taking this drug.  4  birth control severe headache on first day of period, slight weight gain, periodic anxiety, very low sex drive I've been on Yasmin for almost 7 years, with a brief 2-yr hiatus when trying to conceive then giving birth. Before my pregnancy, Yasmin was great -- helped with my moodiness, decreased the flow and duration of my periods, stopped cramping. However, in the 2 years I've been taking Yasmin after my pregnancy, I've noticed significant side effects (listed at left). I've talked about it with my doc, who says it could be due to new hormone levels in my body. I have not gone off this pill yet because the positives out-weigh the negatives, but I plan to stop taking it in a couple months so we can try to conceive baby #2. F 31 7 years

3  birth control, severe endometriosis I had bad withdrawals coming off the pill after 7 years off and on- bad headaches, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, breaking out, hair loss & itchy greasy hair. It's been 7 months and I still have hair loss, greasy itchy hair having to wash it twice a day with no relief and the worst breakouts of my life. I never had bad acne even as a teenager until I stopped this birth control. It worsens about a week before my period and I am at a loss trying to figure out what to do. I have tried every expensive shampoo and acne treatments out there (non-perscription) with no improvement. The breakouts get worse each time...as I write this I have the most acne I have ever had my face some painful and my head is so itchy I want to scream even though I just washed my hair about 5 hours ago. Was switched to Yasmin at age 20 shortly before my first laparoscopy in September 2003 to control painful periods and clots associated with diagnosed severe endometriosis. I never thought I had a problem on it, my periods and clotting lessened over time though never helped with my pain the rest of the time and symptoms of my endometriosis would come and go. In Oct. 2009 I decided to stop taking it because my husband and I were wanting to start a family when he returns from deployment. I had some withdrawal symptoms that went away after a few weeks but am very discouraged with the ones that have not gone away. Was told my hormones could still be out of balance as it worsens about a week or so before my period. The worst acne I have ever had in my life and uncontrollable itchy greasy scalp and hair loss. If anyone can help me or offer suggestions they are greatly appreciated. On a side note my severe endometriosis is back in full swing with pain/clotting worse than before. I am about to have my third laparoscopy so they can rule things out and move on to another fix, but I refused birth control when the wanted me to get on it while my husband is away. I can't put my body through anymore with getting on a new pill than getting off it again when he returns and we want to have a baby while still suffering symptoms from getting off the Yasmin.  1  Regulate cycle Had tons of side-effects, but spent years (and hundreds of dollars) with multiple doctors until one finally linked them all to Yasmin. These included severe headaches and migraines, anxiety and depression, no sex drive (which had a terrible effect on my marriage), gastrointestinal problems, panic attacks, dizziness, and nausea.  1  Birth Control Anxiety, Panic Attack, Adrenalin Rush, Heart Palpitations, Chest Pain, Brain Fog, Ear popping, foot cramps, crying Was on Yasmin 7 years and it turned on me! I forgot to order my refill so I was 4 days late starting a new pack. I started the pack and 72 hours later had my first panic attack of my life (32 yrs old). Then, a chest heaviness and anxiety that wouldn't go away. All labwork came back normal. Finally, I went on the sugar pills and all symptoms stopped in 72 hours! Coincidence? I don't think so. If you've never had anxiety or panic before and it starts while on Yasmin trying going off it and see if it helps. I was thinking "what is happening to me"? No I've been off it for 10 days and feel 75% back to normal. I am confident that I will be 100% as soon as my hormones regulate. I'm actually worried about the psychological damage this episode might have done, having panic for 3 weeks straight is not good for a person! For those who think I might have anxiety and panic without Yasmin, I have NEVER in my 32 years had this and it went away when I stopped the pill. F 32 7 years

5  Regulate menstrual cycle Little weight gain. Cleared skin right up. Straightened out cycle, cramps got better. Sex drive has not changed, no nausea or headaches. I was on Estro-step (terrible side effects, suicidal thoughts, depression) and my doc change me to Yasmin, it works great for me. Anxiety runs in my family so I am not about to blame that on my birth control pill. F 26 6 years

4  birth control Not many... overall happy I've been taking Yasmin for about 6 years. I just decided to switch because my doctor thinks that the bad headaches I get could stem from the lack of estrogen on days 21-28. After reading this, there are some other things I experience that could be a result of Yasmin. No Sex Drive... I thought it was just me and it frustrates my husband, but I've been on Yasmin so long that chances are that it's not me and probably the pill. Wish I would have found this site earlier!! :) Overall I would recommend Yasmin. F 27 6 years

4  Lower BP; regulate cycle; PMS pain None! This pill did everything me & Dr. expected it to. I've been on at least three different types of pill on & off for the last 17 years. Ortho-Tricyclen; Ortho Novum 777; & finally Yasmin after the birth of my 2nd child 6 years ago. I've never experienced any negative side effects with any of these. They actually regulated my cycles & removed my PMS pains. My GYN recently took me off Yasmin in April due to my age & already on BP med. I was having no issues while on it. NOW, 5 mos later, I've noticed more water weight gain (despite working out 3 days/wk). I think the diuretic in Yasmin was helping the HCTZ keep the excess water off. Now that I'm not on the pill, I've gained 12 lbs! I know my body & although too much of anything is bad for you, it seems like Yasmin helped more than hurt. Now my body has to regulate itself on it's own & I don't like what's happening. Now I'm going to the Dr every week for Bloodwork because my potassium's low. What's next? F 36 6 years

4  acne, avoid pregnancy, periods Breast increase (fine with me haha), possible weight gain, lighter shorter periods, heart rate increase -- I work out regularly and this has caused my heart rate to be extremely high when working out which isn't always bad but kind of sucks because I become overheated I have been on yasmin for 6 years. What I've learned after tryin a few but coming back is that you have to decide if negatives outweigh the positives. At first I thought yasmin was causing me to gain weight. But I feel like people that have issues pop up in their health always want to attribute it to birth control. Most americans are overweight, even obese..can't always blame birth control..you may become overly stressed and eat more a particular month. I know that yasmin for a fact caused my breast size to increase 1-2 cups so it could very well have caused my thighs, stomach, hips to as well. You have to realize that no b.c. is perfect..u could switch to another brand and have no side effects but down the road you might...or they could be even worse than yasmin. To me, it wasnt worth the battle of switching kinds every month and not knowing what would happen so I just stayed with this one since it's been okay for me. you also must realize that you need to try medicine FOR 3 MONTHS BEFORE KNOWING THE TRUE EFFECTS...so many people quit after 1 month. Also, I've heard of people gaining 20+ pounds on some birth control so I don't think 5 or 10 is much(plus if your breasts increase that could be 5 pounds just there). F 23 6 years

3  severe cramps, heavy periods possible blood clot, extreme mood swings cons: intermittent pain in my left arm about two inches below my elbow. i'm worried that it is a blood clot after doing some research. i've been experiencing extremely horrible mood swings. in the last year, i've started crying everyday about a week before i start. lately, it's everyday (multiple times a day sometimes) for two weeks before i start. that leaves 2 weeks out of the month that i'm not an emotional mess. pros: my severe cramps lightened up to where i'm able to fulfill my daily duties and not in bed for 3-5 days out of the month. the bleeding is much lighter and it's only about 3 days now, whereas it used to be about a week of extremely heavy bleeding. acne has cleared up, complexion is wonderful. no pregnancy. i am seriously considering getting off of yasmin. i would be open to any following remarks regarding other contraceptives or any feedback on yasmin users who have used it at least 1 year or more F 21 6 years

3   I have been taking yasmin for almost 6 years and cannot believe that only ow I am putting 2 and 2 together. At first I thought it was great, I went on Yasmin to control heavy periods and clots and because it was said to prevent weight gain and water retention. Over the past 2 years or so, maybe longer, I don't know, I have been suffering from extreme depression, lack of confidence, vaginal dryness, lack of sex drive, bloating, mood swings, tiredness, insomnia. I have noticed over the past yr or so that I am often bloated for no reason. I eat healhtily, visit the gym quite a bit and drink litres of water yet I am often bloated for weeks at a time. My boobs have shot up to a 32 DD and constantly feel swollen. I feel that I am wasting my time with all this healthy eating/fitness when I have not lost as much as a pound. Because of this I have no interest in anything, men, clothes, shopping, basically I have no self worth whatsoever. I am going to quit once I finish this pack, hopefully th F 22 6 years

3  Birth Control Good - Clearer skin, not so bloated feeling as other pills Bad - Weight gain, moodiness, total lack of sex drive by the end I think Yasmin worked well for me in the beginning in terms of not having side effects but the longer I was on it the worse I felt. Decided to ditch it recently and havent felt better! Lost 18lbs in 2 months and now happy almost all the time, my skin has gotten a bit worse but theres always makeup for that. F 23 6 years

3  Birth Control and period Regulation I took Yasmin for the last 6 years and never noticed any side effects. after reading the postings I realized that people are 100% correct about the lack of a sex drive. I thought it was just me and couldnt explain it. My period was regular as can be, some mild weight gain which I assumed was normal, but period was still lasting 7 days a week. I just stopped taking it about a week and a half ago with hopes of getting pregnant soon. Anyone have any experience with getting pregnant after Yasmin??? F 32 6 years

5  Less cramps, yeast infections I have not experienced any side effects except decreased libido, but I've always had a low libido. I really like Yasmin because of the minimal side effects.  5  birth control I love Yasmin...I've been on a bunch of different birth control pills, and this is by far the best one. Satisfied for 5 years. Don't be too quick to attribute all your health problems to Yasmin, especially those of you who have only been on it for a few months or weeks. I have been on Yasmin 5 years now, and I am not going to change it. I did not gain any weight. Breasts size is beager now, which is OK for me because I had 34A, now is 36C just perfect.  4  Yes When I first started taking Yasmin my boobs got slightly bigger. Over the course of the 5 years my periods have been regular and for the most part light. I really enjoyed being on Yasmin. I never realized people had such problems on yasmin until I started reading about it on the internet because I am looking into going off of it. I am planning on going off Yasmin at the end of this pill pack and I am so scared of all the side effects people have posted. Has anyone had a great experience with Yasmin and been okay when they got off it. I have to be honest... I never would have thought to post how I was perfectly fine taking the pills until I thought about going off. I think there are probably alot more good experiences with the pill that noone posts because they assume everyone is the same as them (like I had thought).  3  ovarian cyst control/pms symptoms increased heart rate, anxiety, breast tenderness, feelings of sadness I cannot believe that all of this time I have been on this pill I thought I was nuts! After using the pill for over 4 years, I went off of the pill for a few months and then started again and that is when I was aware of the horrible side effects. I am in relatively good shape and am a very motivated person, but the shortness of breath that I started getting made me think I was really out of shape. Then the anxiety and sadness I started to feel was incredible. Every little thing made me cry or feel like I wanted to cry. My breasts became so sore that I couldn't sleep on my stomach anymore. I will not be taking this pill any more. The side effects don't outweigh the PMS symptoms. F 27 5 years

3  Took yasmin to prevent pregnancy Positive yasmin effects: shortened my period to three-four days, made it lighter, PMS went from serious depression to not so bad. Negative: chronic yeast infections, weight gain, dark skin on upper lip. Right after I stopped taking it my nipples were really sore and I REALLY ovulated for the first time. After being off yasmin for seven months, lots of my hair has fallen out, I've had random heart palpitations, and pms is bad again. Postively, I have not had a single yeast infection, so it is worth it. The hair loss is the worst part, and maybe it is from a hormone imbalance. Read this if you want to take/get off yasmin. I was given Yasmin samples when it first came out, and took them for many years. I have been on birth control for ten years total, and got off seven months ago. F 26 5 years

1  heavy, frequent and crampy periods DVT - deep vein thrombosis. A clot the length of my thigh. After being hospitalized for 5 days, I've been on coumadin for the last 6 months. Genetic coagulation tests all proved to be negative and the doctors all believe that yasmin was the cause. I've have to wear a thigh high compression hose (so attractive and stylish), watch my diet, no drinking, and have my blood tested frequently.... definitley cramping my senior year in college. The worst is that the clot hasn't completely dissapated, but has attached itself to the vein wall. So it's chronic now. I'm hoping that my leg won't swell, harden and be uncomfortable for ever. Also, this will impact my life and health in the future, especially if I ever decide to get pregnant. I also had significant hair loss about 4 years ago, enough so that my gynecologist ordered bloodwork to see what my hormone levels were. I wish I would have know about this site earlier rather than relying on my doctor. I do have bad acne which was better while on yasmin, but definitley not worth taking it, as the long term effects can be devastating and blood clots can be fatal if symptoms are ignored. F 20 5 years

1  contraceptive This drug contains a different type of hormone that also acts as a mild diuretic. The only thing your doctor/pharmacist may neglect to tell you is that the diuretic can mess with your potassium levels (as it did with me) and cause all sorts of worrisome side effects. I had heart palpitations. I guess it's recommended that your dr check your potassium levels the first couple of months you're on yasmin. Mine did not. I recently switched to Loestrin 24 and i feel like a weight has been lifted off of my chest-literally!I'm not as moody (so far) and I don't feel as stressed out (probably due to the fact that my heart isn't pounding out of my chest anymore!) Another sid effect I had with Yasmin was leg/foot/toe cramps. Not fun. F 28 5 years

1  birth control backache, headache, muscle cramping and weakness, joint pain leading to cellulitis of hand, pain and burning in feet, loss of libido, mood swings, anxiety and tiredness. Been on for 5 years. Never thought pill could be the cause to my problems. Was also on Vytorin for high cholesterol. Stopped that 2 weeks ago. Still having problems. Stopped Yasmin a week later, symptoms are improving. Could be coincidental. Neither pill is good for you and has serious side effects the doctors don't tell you. I will never again take either pill.  1  birth control and regularity daily headaches, blurry vision, constant nausea, vomiting for no reason, upset stomach, no sex drive, moody, depressed, no energy, slurred speech I was on Yasmin for a little over 5 years, and for about 3 of the 5, I felt sick every single day. Terrible headaches. I had NO energy. I had lost my spirit. I have never been a moody or depressed person, and my husband and I would constantly fight about me not wanting to have sex. I have now been off of the pill for 11 months, and have never felt better. My periods are not as regular, my cramps are worse, and my skin got really bad for a while, but I would take all of that over how I felt on this medication. I finally linked the symptoms with the pill when I read all of the ratings on this site. So thank you! F 27 5 years

4  birth control The very first day that I took Yasmin, I woke up in the middle of the night and threw up. The next day, I felt fine. About 6 months into it, I started having occular migraines, which is all the visual effects of a migraine, but no headache. They lasted on and off for about another 6 months. It wasn't until I went to my eye doctor about them that he told me the two were connected, but I haven't had them since. Yasmin had been relatively side effect free for me since the occular migraines went away. If it's causing other side effects, they weren't any that I could definitely associate with this drug. My periods are so light and easy now and are like clockwork. Although hearing all the negative press about it lately has had me looking into other brands. F 29 4.5 years

4  Birth Control Pros: Prevented pregnancy, clearer skin, regular periods, no weight gain Cons: Headache, loss of sex drive I have been taking Yasmin for 4.5 years on and off (my husband is military so I would give my body a break and not take the pill for 3-4 months when he was deployed every year). For the first three years i thought the pill was the best thing ever- I was very regular, had great skin, and had no side effects. During the 4th year on Yasmin I started getting persistent headaches for the whole week of my period. My sex drive was also decreased and was very dry all the time, needless to say that made sex painful. I am discontinuing my use of Yasmin now to see if those side effects will go away, and also because we are thinking about trying to conceive. I should also add that whenever I would go off the pill for a few months my face would break out. It wasn't horrible acne, but frustrating and embarassing for a 25 year old, so Ladies if you are thinking about getting off of Yasmin you should bump up your skin care routine right away to prevent the breakouts.  2  birth control decreased libido, WEIGHT GAIN!! I've been taking Yasmin for about 4.5 years. Recently, my prescription ran out, so I've been only using condoms as birth control. In the past month and a week that I have been off Yasmin, my sex drive has returned, and I've lost 15 pounds. Looking back, I realized that I started gaining weight right around the time I started taking Yasmin (70 pounds in all). I had been struggling to lose weight while on the Yasmin. I'm going to ask my doctor to switch me back to the pill I took before the Yasmin. F 29 4.5 years

2  Heavy periods and cramps No sex drive what-so-ever! The first couple of years were fine and my period lasted 5 days with minimum cramping. But, in the last year cramps have come back as well as numerous other problems. I feel always tired, sleeping 8 hours and still tired, IBS symptoms which are getting worse and worse, and extreme irritability. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder but I dont know if that has anything to do with the pill. I had some panic attacks as well as heart palpitations, chest tightening-feeling, feeling like you cant breath and black outs. After reading my own problems and everyone else's I think I am going to go to the OBGYN and get off it. I can't believe what we are all going through! F 22 4.5 years

1  Birth Control Terrible depression, anger, paranoia, anxiety, horrible thoughts, crying and despair (for little or no apparent reason). Who needs bigger boobs with these negative side effects?! I am glad to have found this site, as I was beginning to think I was losing my mind. Now it appears clear that this pill has been the cause of my negative thoughts (first couple of years were fine, but the bad stuff kicked in at least a year ago). I'm thankful to those women who have posted, but sad and shocked that so many have had the same reactions as me, as I feel truly awful. I stopped taking this poisonous pill a week ago, and hope it doesn't take too long to get back to my usual self. F 27 4.5 years

1  Prevent Pregnancy Severe depression that would lead to suicidal thoughts. Vaginal dryness and COMPLETE loss of sex drive. Of course it works to prevent pregnancy...can't get prego if you don't want sex. Constant breast tenderness (more like pain if anything even grazed me). Extreme moodiness...irrational anger, sudden bursts of crying. Increased appetite with unusual side effect of weight loss. Leg, neck and back muscle cramps. Numbness to arms. Night sweats and inability to sleep alongside fatigue. So to sum it up it has ruined my life and has been such a hurdle for me and my boyfriend. We made the decision to stop all hormonal methods. DON'T TAKE IT F 29 4.5 years

5  birth control Great for my skin- no acne whatsoever. It also reduced the size of cysts on my ovaries. This pill was phenomenal. I experienced no weight gain and my skin was flawless. There were no negative side effects. I recommended this pill to many friends who have mixed reviews about it. F 33 4 years

5  PCOS, acne, weight gain Breast tenderness before period, mild mood swings in first 2 months I had been on multiple different BCPs over several years to treat my hormonal issues. Others made me miserable. The most tolerable (other than Yasmin) was Desogen, but I still had acne problems and difficulty controlling weight with it. I LOVE Yasmin. Acne has disappeared, the dark hairs on my upper lip have turned blonde again, weight problems are basically eliminated (lost 27 pounds since changing pills). The breast tenderness was irritating for the first 6 months or so. Went away on its own. I basically do not have mood swings related to PMS. Sex drive is low, but I haven't found a pill yet that it's not low (especially when you have PCOS in the first place). Maybe a good sex drive is the GOOD side of PCOS?! :) I recommend Yasmin, but stay on it for at least 6 months to give your body a chance to adapt to the different hormones. Any less than that, and you're really not giving it a fair chance. Best of luck! F 34 4 years

5  avoid pregnancy The first week I would get sick to my stomach and dizzy from not drinking enough fluids. Closer to my period my breast were tender. I lost about 10 lbs and my skin cleared up!My sex drive didn't change at all! But I do get sick to my stomach a few days before my period but no too bad. The periods are shorter and lighter and very slight cramping! I love it! I love yasmin. I went off of it for about 8 mo and I was miserable. crying all the time my skin broke out and I was very sweaty! I love it! I guess everyone is different! try it you might really like it!  5  Contraceptive Some depression, tiredness, headaches. I've been taking Yasmin on and off now for about four years. I am also a med student participating in a secondary study on hormone therapies, and I feel it's important to tell you that Yasmin, like ALL birth control pills, are synthetic hormones! Of course you're going to experience these things! Normally, in isolated tests, these side effects waned after 3 months of use in almost ALL research subjects. Compared to most that's pretty successful. I know how frustrating these hormones can be, but that's part of the compromise w/ bc pills... you take them because they're convenient and EFFECTIVE... in return you may experience some side effects. I recommend sticking with Yasmin for at least 3-4 months. I personally noticed that all of the depression, tiredness, etc definitely waned after 3 months. Your body has to get used to the hormone. Like most drugs, you build up a sort of "toleranace" to it once your chemistry adjusts. I take them everyday and NOW feel NONE of the side eff F 29 4 years

5  to prevent pregnancy None that I can think of and I have been taking this for about 4 years now. in the beginning as with all birthcontrol pills you feel tired and you have mood swings and the cravings but, over time if you keep on it and take it the same time every single day the side effects go away. I would not recommend a birthcontrol to my daughter unless it worked for me and it did. F 42 4 years

5  acne Most side effects have been positive. Cramping decreased by about 90%, my cycle became lighter and regular and much of my acne went away. I had no negative side effects except for a small stomach ache that would come and go the first month but I think it was just my body getting used to it. It's made my life much easier. F 35 4 years

4  Birth control Lost weight, acne cleared up, but I had a total loss of sex drive after a few years. Yasmin was great. The first few months I lost about 8 pounds and my acne cleared up, which was nice. I didn't have severe side effects, but after about 3 1/2 years my sex drive began to decrease until it became non-existent. I'm switching to something else this month to see if that helps; if not, I'll probably go back to Yasmin. Overall, I'd recommend it. F 25 4 years

4  Birth control/bad cycle The only side effect i really noticed while on yaz was breakthrough bleeding in the middle of my periods. I took Yasmin for 2 years and switched to Yaz when it came out because my doctor recommended it. i was having very heavy and crampy periods. I know have been taking yaz for 2 years and love it but for the passed 6 months have been having serious breakthrough bleeding in the middle of my periods. my doctor just changed me to desogen becuase it has more progesterone which supposedly is what keeps the lining in tact and should stop breakthrough bleeding. apparently yaz has very low doses of hormones. If it werent for the breakthrough bleeding i would have never switched!! im nervous about this new pill :( F 26 4 years

4  Birth control water retention, painful breasts, nausea for first month taking yasmin Nausea in the first month or so was a little difficult, but went away. The only recurring issue I have is with my breasts, they're HUGE. I'm very petite and a 32D now. I find that period pain is decreased on this pill, and I gained less weight than with others. water retention is still an issue though. F 24 4 years

3  Birth Control and to clear Skin Zero Sex drive, PMT, fatigue, mood swings I have only just realised that all my problems are most likely because of Yasmin!! I have been concerned about my lack of sex drive as has my boyfriend of 3 years. Normally i am rampant and in the last year i just dont want to know, im dead from the neck down!!! Now reading this site i am going off it ASAP!!! i have to try and get back to normal to keep my relationship!! Also PMT i never used to get, now im tearful and depressed every week before my period.  3  Regulate periods and pain Not sure if they're side effects, but since taking the pill 4 years ago have had high blood pressure, migranes, diahrea, loss of appetite, crying bits, fatigue, can't sleep. But the pill did a great job of regulating my period and got rid of the severe stomach pain associated with it. I just can't handle the stomach problems much longer. Will talk with the doc to see if it could be related to the pill and see if I should stop taking it. F 27 4 years

3  Birth Control Moodiness, irritability, anxiety, depression, leg cramping, night sweats, significant weight gain. I began taking Yasmin in either late 2005 or early 2006, I can't. While exercising regularly and maintaining the same overall eating habits; I gained weight. There were weeks where I gained 10 pounds with no rhyme or reason and nothing would help to lose it. My body did not have any physical changes to the exercise I was doing. I was frustrated beyond belief. Over the past few weeks, I began hearing more and more about Yasmin and complications people were having. This past weekend, I had a ton of time to do some thinking (I was painting my house) and was thinking a lot about Yasmin. I began constructing a time line in my head and began to wonder if the Yasmin was at all related to my weight gain, I began piecing the calendar in my head. I began researching some of the side effects of Yasmin and realized that while some people had no side effects, many people exhibited symptoms that I too was experiencing. I have been more irritable and moody, and a host of the other side effects I have seen. I sent a link to my boyfriend to read and his response was 'oh my, you have most of these'. We were together prior to my taking Yasmin. F 39 4 years

2  Birth Control Gradual but complete loss of sex drive; depression for the first 5 months of use. Yasmin worked as a birth control; I never got pregnant and as a bonus I want up a bra size! Unfortunately, I lost my sex drive entirely; at first I thought that it was the stress of my career but when work demands eased up I found that my libido was still decreasing. I stopped taking Yasmin when I couldn't bring myself to sleep with my fiance for four months. I've been off of Yasmin for about a month now and my libido is slowly returning. I wish I had realized the cause sooner. F 26 4 years

2  to prevent pregnancy Pros: no pregnancies, internal temperature dropped, figure changed, clear complexion, extremely regular periods. Cons: over four years of taking, noticed increase in extreme moods, digestive problems, sluggishness While on Yasmin, I enjoyed that it was difficult to work up a sweat (but felt uncomfortably cold in air conditioning). Butt and boobs grew relative to waist. No babies and had enjoyable/regular sex. Discontinued use when digestion became increasingly uncomfortable and disruptive; bloating and gas so severe that interfered with work and social life. 3 months off now and I am happy that: my hair seems to be growing faster, I can eat without discomfort, and my friends and family agree with me that I am calmer and happier--like I used to be. The improved digestion and mood are huge. Never would have guessed that all that abdominal pain was due to the pill since it slowly intensified over the years, as with the irritability. However, I admit that I miss the spontaneous nature of sex while on birth control (did not notice drop in sex drive while taking), the hip-to-waist-ratio, not sweating in the houston summer heat, and the great complexion. Sanity before vanity, though, no contest there! F 25 4 years

2   I used to be on Yasmin for 2 1/2 years and then switched to Yaz because my doctor had recommended it. I have been on it for a little over a year now, and after reading all the reviews I have realized all my problems are being caused by the pill!! I have weird mood swings and will breakdown and cry for no reason... I have NO sex drive, my boyfriend gets mad at me and I never knew why I wasn't in the mood!! I have developed melasma on my cheeks (small brown spots) which have made me very insecure and embarassed about it... I have spotting, my period is always late and lasts for more than 4 days.. I still get cramps.. my hormones are completely screwed up!! As soon as I finish the pack I will get off Yaz and be done with birth control completely, its not worth it with all the side effects!!! I don't recommend this to ANYONE! F 21 4 years

2  Birth Control and Acne Weight gain, scarring I had no problems with the brand name Yasmin which I took for 12-18 months. It improved my sub-surface cystic acne. I have been on the generic Ocella for nearly two years now and I can't wait for my next checkup to change it. The generic has not helped with my acne and I believe it to prevent my skin from healing. Now when I get a little mosquito bite or small surface scratch it scars. I have a bunch of rediculous little scars all over. I have put on 15-20 pounds with no change in diet or exercise routine. No change in other medications over the past 3-4 years. I see many other people commenting about depression. I never figured it could be related but I have been treated for depression in the past few years also. F 30 4 years

2  Bith control, Acne Anxiety, panic, depression and suicidal thoughts, no sex drive, dryness, tired and angry. About 3-4 years ago my doctor put me on Yasmin. I thought it was great! Skin cleared up, moderate weight fluxuation. Then about a year ago, I became WAY emotional out of the blue. I would cry over the smallest things. I had suicidal thoughts, totally lethargic and "hazy." My sex drive reduced to 0 - I love my BF, but we stopped having sex for nearly 6-8 months because I had no drive and would pick fights for NO REASON. Awful. In March I got busy at work and stopped taking it by accident. I felt so good, so NORMAL, that I just discontinued use. The first month was great. My personality re-adjusted over night, I have more energy, I'm genuinly happy, my sex drive is through the roof. But now I am 1.5 weeks late on my second period since quitting. I am bloated and have noticed water weight gain. I hope that it can be managed with strict diet, excersice and anti-bloat pills. I am breaking out, but I expected that. It's bad, but I am hoping that Pro-Active will keep it at bay until my body regulates. But again, my mood is so much better that it seems like a small price to pay. So far anyway. I have not noticed the hair effects yet - I have alays had very think, long hair. For those of you experiencing that side effect, there are vitamins you can take that may help you get through it. Ask your salon. If anyone has any advice, or can share what happened after the 2 month mark, that would be great. I'm bracing for some tough moments. F 27 4 years

2  regulate periods/bc weight loss at first, then gain, horrible migraines, ridiculous appetite, spotting When I first started taking Yasmin I had been switched to it from Ortho-Lo, which made me gain 10 pounds. I started taking Yasmin and lost the extra weight almost immediately. Now I have nothing but problems with this pill: spotting, horrible migraines and headaches everyday I take a pill, I'm losing a ton of hair, I cry over everything, I gained about 12 pounds all in my stomach, hips, and thighs, and not to mention horrible vaginal dryness and no sex drive whatsoever.  1  Birth Control I have been on Yasmin since 2003. It was fine for about 6 months, after that my sex drive went to ZERO. I thought it was becuase of severe stress caused by other factors in my life. But after going to therapy and visiting with my primary care physician, we now realize, it is from the Yasmin. In addition to absolutely zero sex drive, I had mood swings, fatique, upset stomach and frequent depressed states. But the worst part of all of it was the lack of sex drive becuase it was pratcially ruining my marriage. Use extreme caution when using this pill. I personally feel this pill is pure evil and should be taken off the market. It ruined my sex life (and my husband's)for years, it was the ultimate in birth control for all of the wrong reasons.  1  to delay pregnancy tired, low sex drive...peri-menopause like symptoms after stopping the pill... While taking Yasmin, my PMS increased and I experienced occasional moodiness. The major problem for me with Yasmin was when I stopped taking it. I stopped about 2 months ago after having been on it for about 4 years. I am currently experiencing nausea, migraines, extreme swelling(even with watching my sodium intake), dizziness, and cloudy thinking. I have not felt "normal" since stopping the pill. On the flip side my energy levels are up and my libido, which were down while I was taking the pill. I just attributed those issues to stress and daily life...this pill is evil!!! F 31 4 years

1  To help reduce PMS Symptoms I started experiencing an itchy rash on my legs, my face started drying out, and my ear started to ring, I started to get light headed at times and a couple times dizzy to the point I would throw up. The ear issue has been the most annoying and is definitely connected to taking Yasmin. Although, I've had all those other horrible and frustrating symptoms; I have experienced less mood swings, better sex drive, minimal cramps and two day periods that are light. Is all that worth it: NO I would never had taken Yasmin if I would of known that I would experience those symptoms.. horrible..wasted money on Medical Bills because of my ear. I'm sorry it took so long to figure out it was the Yasmin that was causing this. F 27 4 years

1  BC Heart Palpitations, Weight Gain, Fatigue, Lightheadedness, Confusion, Dizziness, Poor Circulation, Migraines. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE RISK!!!! I've been on Ocella (Generic for Yaz) for four years now, and did not think that all of these medical problems pertained to the pill, but I recently developed heart palpitations, and went in for a full cardio work up - they found a blood clot in my heart from the pill. The pill dehydrates you, and the estrogen in the pill promotes blood clots, so the dehydration & estrogen are like a double blood clot whammy. It was only after being diagnosed that the doctors tied everything together, and said it was from this pill. This pill has a fourth generation hormone in it that is known as a killer. 50+ women have died suddenly from taking this pill. Please weigh your options very carefully. I understand that not everyone will develop these problems, but maybe - just maybe you won't know it's happening until it's too late. Wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?? F 34 4 years

3  Contraceptive Depression, Anger, Crying, Moodiness, Just not my happy self, small amount of breast tenderness, Never want sex EVER (and that's weird for me) I have been on Yasmin for about 3 years, and then about 5 months ago, my pharmacy changed me to the generic version, Ocella. I do not know if it is the cause for sure, but I have been very depressed and even angry. The anger has definitely developed since I was changed to Ocella. I fight with my fiance for no real reason, as many others have mentioned, and its gotten so bad that I feel like our relationship will be destroyed by my moodiness, anger, and depression. I was depressed sometimes on Yasmin, but it has really escalated since being on Ocella. My fiance tries to help me, but even when he is sweet and tries to make up with me, I am too angry to care. And, I LOVE THIS MAN. So, he's had to deal with alot from me. He researched it and first suggested that it may be the BCP. But, I discarded the idea, until today, when I looked online myself and saw the terrible and same side effects other women are facing. I will be calling my pharmacy to switch me back to Yasmin itself and see if this helps. F 30 3.5 years

1  Birth Control Mood Swings, Anger, Insecure feelings, Inabiility to cope, depression, anxiety, hair loss, jealousy, Irrational thoughts, Quick to blame others for my feelings while knowing I was at fault, Delusional paranoia. Before starting Yasmin I NEVER suffered from any mental/mood problems. i was always confident and proud of myself, successful at what I did, admired by everyone, secure and loved life. When starting Yasmin I felt ok though slowly I started to feel an underlying anxious feeling within..this progressed to feelings of self doubt, insecurity, jealousy, anger, severe mood swings and so on. I never thought it was the pill because these side effects started off small and slowly. As a result I lost my partner who I loved with all my heart. I would take out most of my anger on him. Make up reasons in doing so while all the time knowing I was completely wrong in my actions and assumptions. After 3 years he simply could not cope anymore. After seeing a counsellor he thought I needed anti depressants. So I saw my new doctor and she said to stop taking Yasmin. So I did. I have been off Yasmin for 1 month and the change in my character is astonishing!!!! I feel so calm, relaxed and at peace. I honestly feel like I have reclaimed my old self. I have had a lot of hair loss and some weight gain but it is so worth it. Its such a shame it took to lose my partner to realise this toxic BCP was to blame for the monster unleashed inside me.  5  Birth Control and Acne going off of Yasmin was absolutely TERRIBLE! Bad Melasma, but Great skin, Healthy hair and Light periods I was on Yasmin for 3 years and loved, loved, loved it! My skin was super clear and I had been a sufferer from bad acne from a young age. BUT, the first year I got some larger freckles on my cheeks that I thought were kind of cute, then the next year BIGGER, then BIGGER and freckles also appeared above my lip and on my forhead. I had to go off imediately and GOING OFF OF YASMIN WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE MY BODY HAS UNDERGONE! I lost tons of hair and it got super oily, my skin freaked out, and I didn't feel like myself. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING OFF YASMIN UNLESS YOU ARE TRYING TO GET PREGNANT, HAVE MELASMA, OR HAVE SOME OTHER MAJOR SIDE EFFECT! F 32 3 years

It had been working great with no side effects, until.... I started developing horrible migraines the week of my period. Never had migraines ever before. Am considering going off because the migraines are so miserable, but not sure if it is worth the monthly periods and acne. At my age, I'm a little concerned about any major side effects I could get, however, my doctor said I could stay on this BC through menopause which is tempting but not sure it is worth the migraines every 10 weeks!  5  birth control Yasmin is great, its has kept me free from menstrual cramps. I have been taking Yasmin for almost 3 years now and i think its one of the best things that has happend to me. I would suffer so much from menstrual cramps and my periods would last about five days, thanks to Yasmin now i have no cramps (well maybe very minor ones) but nothing compared to what i have suffered before taking Yasmin. Also my periods are only 3 days long and pretty light. It has helped me maintain almost free from acne (the breakouts usually occur when my menstrual cycle is going to start). No problems with sex drive, weight gain, nausea, headaches or joint pain. So i would highly recommend Yasmin. Although i know all bodies react differently. But if you suffer badly from menstrual cramps like i did before, my advice at least try it. =D F 25 3 years

4  heavy periods and cramping No noticeable side effects except nausea and weight loss The regular Yasmin worked great for me other than the nausea I experienced. When the pharmacy switched me to Ocella I started having two periods a month and the awful cramping came back. I gained the 10 pounds I had originally lost with yasmin and experienced acne for the first time ever. I called my doctor asnd asked that she write "name brand only." I'm back on Yasmin and am so much happier! F 21 3 years

4  Contraceptive possible weight gain, but I have been eating more pasta... I went on yasmin as recommended by the head of gynecology at a well-respected hospital in my home town. I take it continually - taking a week off the pills only every few months or, in other words, four periods a year. For the first 23 years of my life I'd suffered from a constant, large, disfiguring patch of eczema on my leg that kept me from wearing shorts or skirts and caused strangers to make comments about it to me in public. After three weeks of being on yasmin, the eczema was completely gone and my skin was healed entirely. You can't even see a scar! I've found that by avoiding monthly periods my emotional status is much more stable. I've gained about 15 pounds, but then again, I'm at the age where metabolism slows anyway and I've recently become vegetarian meaning a lot more pasta and fried food. So take that as you will. When I do have my period, I've found the cramps are a bit more intense, but not entirely debilitating. Other PMS symptoms have shown no change, t F 25 3 years

4  regulate periods First month noticed contacts were dried out and noticed nausea but only when drinking alcohol (I did not experience this before being on the pill). After the initial side effects from the first month cleared, I liked yasmin. It cleared up my acne for the most part. My periods lasted 1-3 days and I never got pregnant. I originally started started the pill to regulate periods and I was regular from the first month on. The only negative to Yasmin is that it is kind of expensive and there is no generic available. I just recently got switched to a generic of loestin 1.5/30, which my doctor recommended. I have not started it yet, so we will see how that goes. good pill. cleared acne. no pregnancy. short periods. just expensive. F 23 3 years

4  birth control decreased sex drive, major vomiting if I missed a pill(several times) I have just recently (last 3 months) switched my bc to Loestrin because of my libido, but it has since been a huge mistake. I really liked Yasmin much better. Yasmin did not have the weight gain effect that LE 24 has on me--my sex drive really hasn't changed that much either, and with Yasmin, it was terrible. I am trying to find a pill that does not produce so much weight gain/food cravings, but that also has better components for an increase in sex drive. Any suggestions? Please email me with your suggestions... F 26 3 years
