1	Upper Respiratory Infection	Tingling of both legs, slight numbness. Tingling in palms.	Do some research on this drug and it will scare the hell out of you! 1	Sinus Infection	The first round was fine, but then a month later I took one pill and turned bright red all over my body. Had to go to E.R. Just had a friend that died two days ago from one pill. Had anaphalactic shock.	This has made me afraid to take any antibiotics. I was suffering from anxiety at the time, but did not relate it to this drug. Lots of things make sense now. 1	sinus infection	After taking ONLY ONE pill,my face began to swell and skin became blotchy. I went back to my Dr. and was told to take OTC Benadryl. By the next morning, my entire face was swollen so bad that I had trouble seeing anything at all. after a quick trip to urgent care and a shot of Benadryl and steriods it took three days to return to normal. 1	bronchitis	Within 15 minutes of taking first pill I developed hives and within the next 10 minutes had to be rushed to the ER for breathing problems, swollen tongue, throat closing up, chest pain and extremely high blood pressure. I have never been allergic to anything up to this point. Today 1 year later I still have extreme problems because this med caused my ANA to double making me sensitive to all drugs. Was cautioned by my allergist to be careful of medications I take in the future. I also have developed fluctuating high blood pressure and neurological symptoms of which I never had before.	I seriously caution anyone to think twice before taking this med. It has ruined my life. I was extremely healthy a year ago and now I've been rushed to the ER 5x this year because of the ongoing problems this med has caused me. The FDA has made Bayer change the labeling on the box for this product due to tendon ruptures, when they should have banned it. 3	pneumonia	I was on it twice this winter for 2 different bouts of pneumonia. My fiance definately noted a difference in my personality. No real side effects until finishing the second course of treatment and I forget what it feels like to feel well. Stomach pains, reflux, two episodes of severe vomiting (which is so unusual for me), loss of appetite and tremors.Generally feeling awful for weeks now.I would really hesitate to ever take this medication again due to the side effects but it did effectively treat the pneumonia. 1	Resistant Sinus Infection	I DIED after taking the second pill of this drug!! I had an absolutely sudden anaphylactic reaction to this drug, with the severe pouring full-body sweating, knees collapsing, extreme weakness, severe nausea, severe shortness of breath, swelling in throat, hands, feet & within a few moments, extreme hot flushing, unconsciousness. LUCKILY, it was SO strange that I managed to call 911 in the few seconds before complete collapse. They arrived within 5 mins. to find me with NO heartbeat & NO blood pressure. Managed to revive me with injected epinephrine, heart paddles, etc. I "died" twice more on the way to the hospital. As a result have permanent heart damage, from lack of oxygen to heart muscle. When I finally regained full consciousness, I almost screamed when I looked in a mirror! My face was swollen so my eyes were just slits, as well as all my extremities. All the Emerg. docs & my local pharmacists said they hadn't seen any reactions to Avelox before &	I am incredibly lucky to be alive. They said that, had they been another minute later, I would have STAYED dead permanently from reacting to this drug. 1	Sinus infection	Dizziness, naseua, stomach pain, muscle pain in legs	My doctor prescribed Avelox for me because he said that I had a "possible sinus infection with laryngitis". He gave me two samples plus a prescription for eight days. I debated taking the sample or just waiting it out to see if I really had a sinus infection. Stupid me! I took one sample, and thought I was going out of my head. I was very dizzy the rest of the day. My stomach hurt and I had lots of naseua. I just didn't feel right. I didn't take another one after that. I decided to research Avelox and I'm glad I did, otherwise, I might have continued with treatment. My only problem now is that it has been a few days and I just started having muscle pain in both legs. I'm trying not to get really scared or upset but, after reading everyone's posts, I'm starting to get worried. 1	Sinus infection	At onset had muscle and joint pain, shooting pains in legs, mental acuity greatly diminished, depression, anxiety. Long term effects (over 4 years and counting) include periphereal neuropathy, myofascial damage which includes chronic hip pain, chronic knee pain from tendonitis, muscle pain and twitching,debilitating depression, and constant fatigue. The neuropathy, according to the Physician's Desk Reference on Drugs,is probably permanent. I only took two pills and I feel like my life will never be the same. Before this I was an active, strong, happy person, my father called me the survivor bacause no matter what life flung at me I kept smiling, now it is hard to keep from crying daily.	Quinolones in general are over prescribed by doctors. They should only be used as a last resort antibiotic, when other less toxic antibiotics have failed to work. The overuse of these hard hitting antibiotics along with others such as Vancomycin are the reason we are faciing resistant bacterial organisma such as MRSA (methicillin resistant Staph aureus) and VRE (Vancomycin resistant Enterococcus) and VRSA (Vancomycin resistant Staph aureus). 1	sinus infection	Within five minutes of taking the fist dose I started burping loudly and forcefully. We were in a restaurant and had to leave because I couldn't controle the burping. Within one hour I developed rigors (shakes)and a electric sensation or shock throughout my body. I became flushed and sweated profusely, got a very dry throat. This lasted for about two hours. Luckily for me I had taken a Claritin in the morning which helped reverse the reaction. I am allergic to Penicillin and have had an anaphylactic reaction to that. This was the same feeling, but I did not have to go to the ER this time thanks to Claritin. I hope nothing else happens during the night.	Stay clear of this medicine. 1	Sinus Infection	I only took one pill before bed and the entire night I was shaking with chills and chest pains. To make matters worse, I woke up the next morning with sores all over my body. My hands, chest, extremities had these red blotches which turned into open blisters. My entire mouth also had these monsterous canker sores. I only took one pill and I was almost rushed to the hospital when I had difficulty breathing. If not for an immediate dose of both Allegra and Benydrill i am sure I would have been way worse. This medicine is so potent and toxic that even after 10 days of just taking one pill I still suffer from the above mentioned side effects. This is like swallowing a radiactive pill and It definetly would have killed me if I did not stop immediately. I am now on Augmentin with much better results with only slight stomach cramps. So my doctor recommended Avelox and said many, many great things about it. Taking the medication within the first hour made me start having anxiety and panic attacks. It was scary. I was so happy before I took the medication. I have never been that scared and Paranoid in my life. The next day I was scared to take the medication and I just wanted to cry. So, I went to another doctor and got the prescription changed. What really bugged me was the doctor thought I was an idiot. He insisted these were not the effects of the medication. The paper my pharmacist gave did include, "MOOD/MENTAL CHANGES". I want to print this website and send it to that idiot. My sister had simiar effects to the medication. After reading these reviews, I strongly believe no one should try it. It's not worth it. I've had several antibiotics, alot stronger, but never felt the pain incurred with this medication. 1	Sinus Infection	I was taking Z-Pak, but the ENT who I went to see told me that placebo works better than zitromax for sinus infection and gave me avalox. I went to walgrens paid $450 for 3 week suply went back to work took it and had to leave due to dizzy spells and "out of it feeling". 1	Sinus and pneumonia	Took 1st pill and then had a headache and my legs and feet started aching. I read the papers that came with the medicine and stopped taking it immediately. I had a sprained left ankle last year and just had a horrible feeling about taking the medicine. I called the DR. and they switched me to a 500 mg Zpack. This is day six and I am feeling better.	Would not recommend this. The scariest part was that the details in the medicine handout said the joint and tendon problems are not just while you're on the medicine, but can continue for months after you take it. 1	chronic sinus infection	Feeling of lightheadedness, jittery, weak in my legs.Earache,high pitched noise in ears	I have been on 2 different Antibiotics. The Zpack and Vantin..niether one cleared up my infection. I was given Biactin(Another horrible drug) One of those sent me to the ER immediately with a BP of 204/98 and a spiked temp of 99.9. Doctors dont seem to listen and insisted it wasnt the drug and asked if i was under any stress, but did change it for me to Avelox. So i waited for my husband to get home before i took one...didnt want a repeat of the Biactin incident. So took one and thought everything was just fine until about 45 mins in...then got really jittery, anxious, wierd feeling in my head, high pitched noise in ears. Woke up at 5am with extreme dry mouth and had a scared feeling..Couldnt go back to sleep. I knew of this site but decided not to read any reviews on the side effects til i had tried it.I didnt want to be influenced in anyway....well i have all the same symptoms as if seems everyone else does.Another one to be careful of is Levaquin. I,m allegic to penicillin so have to keep trying these other drugs.It gets pretty scary though.So not sure what to do now as i refuse to take anymore of these..whats left for me to take..Why do Dr's not want to admit it could be the drug. They just want to go every other route. If so many people are feeling this way then obviously there is some truth in it. 1	Bronchitis & Sinus Infection	After 1 hour of taking this medicine, I felt dizzy, nervous, anxious and completely "out of it" mentally. Very hard to explain how I felt other than dazed, confused and mentally incapacitated. Blood pressure raised up to 180/98 with resting heart rate at around 125bpm. Went to the ER where they gave me benedryl. Within a couple of hours I was almost back to normal.	Even with insurance the 14 pills cost me $100. Tack on another $150 for the emergency room and I ended up paying $250 for one pill that made me crazy. I wouldnt touch this medication wiht a 10 foot pole. 1	misdiagnosed whooping cough	tingling/numbness in feet and hands and disorientation within 30 mins. of first dose. Within 10 mins. of second dose - same symptoms as first dose plus tightening of throat; extreme anxiety and confusion as well as hallucinations.	I ended up in emergency where they gave me oxygen and put me on a Benadryl drip until the symptoms subsided. I now wear a MedicAlert bracelet to identify my severe allergy to this medicine. 1	Possible kidney infection	Two years later and I still have a tic disorder. Had body contractions all over ,confusion, high blood pressure 30 minutes after taking first dose. The side effects have resulted in me having to take two medicines daily to overcome them or even function normally. 1	Strep Throat	Three hours after the first pill I began having hot and cold feeling flushing all over my body. Also started having severe anxiety attacks. I went to urgent care and was evaluated. Then given a different antibiotic. The flushing and anxiety lasted all through the night and the hot and cold flushes finally stopped the next morning. Still experienced anxiety the day after. 1	Pleurisy	After taking the 1st dose I had an extreme panic attack 2 hrs later and felt like I was being smothered.I took a Serax to counteract the anxiety and it faded away.Was taking Motrin for the Pleurisy pains still.That night I woke up after 2 hrs of sleep and a another huge panic attack and couldn't breathe.Felt like I was going to die.The next day I woke up and my throat was closing up.Throat was extremely dry.Had trouble sleeping since then and still high anxiety.I wrote a letter to Bayer in Germany and told them they need to stop selling this poison.I started taking a macrolide antibiotic,Biaxin for the Pleurisy and have no side effects.What a terrible experience,especially while dealing with Pleurisy at the same time.Also had alot of muscle twitching 10 days later. 1	Sinus Infection	Racing heart rate in the middle of the night; nausea; dizziness, just an overall horrible feeling like never before.	My doctor prescribed this to treat my infection, as in the past I have been on Cipro, Biaxin and Levaquin and I guess he wanted to try something new to be sure I had not developed a tolerance to the other drugs. But it was awful. I called immediately and they switched me back to Levaquin - and the Avelox went down the toilet. 1	sinus infection	Cardiovascular: After only 1 dose, I experienced frightening cardiovascular side effects spanning over a period of approx 30 hour. They included chest pressure, hypotension, extreme lightheadedness, fatique and nausea.	After approx 24 hrs, I remembered a friend of mine (and ICU nurse) describing an even more severe reaction to this medication about a year ago. She took it once 2 yrs ago without reaction and then 1 dose about a year ago with significant cardiavasular reaction as follows:severe hypotension, irregular heart rate (very fast - SVT=supraventricular tachycardia) and extreme syncopy=dizziness. I called her while I was having my reaction and she later related that she knew of a few other people having cardiovascular issues is response to this drug. 1	Sinus Infection	I had taken Avelox several times over the past 20 years and got an occasional bad taste in my mouth. But last night I thought I was going to die. About 30 mins after taking I got beet red, developed a rash which started on face and spread to my feet and almost passed out. My heart was pounding. I started to take Benadryl knowing this was an allergic reaction. Should have went to the ER, being in the medical field. Eventually reaction calmed down. Today feel like a truck hit me. 1	Chronic Sinus Infection	Extreme dizziness/light-headedness; horrible anxiety; worst migraine of my life; nausea/vomiting; racing heart; insomnia.	In short, I live alone, so I was terrified when, after taking only 1 Avelox pill, I started feeling all of these side effects. I called my Mom at 2 a.m. (I took the pill before bed) hysterically crying, saying that I felt like I was either going to die or pass out...no joke, I felt that bad, and I've never had that kind of a reaction to a medication before. She came over to pick me up, and take me back to her house so I wouldn't be alone, and I could barely walk from my house to her car. Riding in the car was another nightmare - I got sick from the moving car. By the time we got back to her house, I almost passed out walking from her car into the house...even though I was exhausted and felt awful, I couldn't sleep for a full 24 hours...not a wink. Which needless to say made the migraine caused by this horrible medicine even more unbearable. A few days after taking it, I started to feel normal again...but what a nightmare. I called my doctor once I was feeling better and absolutely tore him a new one for prescribing such a horrible medication...this should be banned and removed from the market! If you're prescribed this medication, don't go against your doctor's orders, but I would at least question if there isn't something else you could take...because the side effects of this medication were absolute hell! 1	Sinus infection	After first pill yesterday, about 4 hours later had severe weakness in legs and arms. Then came a burning sensation in my chest and mouth. Constant dry mouth. Called doctor office and was told I needed to call an ambulance. I wish I had read this site before I took the drug. Anyway, ER told me I should not take anymore and will have continued muscle weakness and aching for a few days. DR. said I never actually had any infection after all. 1	Respiratory infection	Within an hour-and-a-half of taking my first dose, I felt inflammatory pain in the rotator cuff of my left shoulder extending down into my elbow. (That left rotator cuff was surgically repaired less than 3 years ago.) It is now 5 1/2 hours since that initial dose, and the burning pain has not subsided. 5	sinus infection	Very minimal including sleepiness and slight dizzyness right after taking it. Slight meloncholy feeling, not quite depression.	It's only the second day that I have taken the drug and it has eliminated the sinus infection I have had for several months. I have taken two other antibiotics for the full term that did not even have an effect. I plan to take it for the full ten days. I only recommend it if you have a serious infection that has not responded to anything else. I would not take this if I had a choice after reading the potential side effects. 3		Shortly after the 1st dose, I had a 'foggy' feeling and mild stomach upset. With the 2nd dose, I noticed sleep issues and moderate joint pain (elbows and knees), along with addl digestive problems, enough to discontinue the medicine. I did however notice that my sinus infection was must less intense in those 2 days. 3	Cough and high fever	Insomnia; joint pain in low back, hips and leg tremors which I never experienced before. Dry mouth, bad taste in mouth, and ringing in ears.	Concerns about joint pain and leg tremors caused me to research side effects, and after reading patient complaints, to stop taking Avelox. But it did seem to work since my fever went from 102.1 to 99.7 after one dose and my cough stopped after only 2 doses. I will not take Avelox again, because of the side effects I experienced. After the first dose (400MG) I knew something was not right. After the second dose, I found this site and it gave me confirmation of what I was suspecting. This drug is bad news! 1	sinus	2 hours after taking the second pill i experienced symptoms. first i felt really weak and dizzy, than the very fast heartbeat began. i thought i was going to DIE. when the medical people came i had a high blood pressure and they though i had a stroke. when i got to the ER they said i did not have a stroke so i had to wait 4 hours for them to tell me that MAYBE it was from avelox. i knew that and i had to wait that long for nothing. i was so scared of dying. 1	Sinus Infection	After just one dose I was unable to sleep the entire night. The next day I took my dosage(400mg)with food. I suddenly became very anxious and agitated. My heartbeat went through the roof, I had to take a sedative. Once the drug progressed through my system, I was nausated, severe headache and completly out of it. To the point where I might as well have been compelelty drunk. I am just coming off it now. 1	Sore throat, bronchitis	First pill, no side effects. Second pill, onset within 5 minutes or so, of pain in my chest, numbness in my left arm, weakness to the point of not being able to move, and feeling like I couldn't breathe. This went on for several hours. 6 hours after taking the pill I started feeling dizzy, very depressed, and became quick to anger. The next day, I still felt very depressed, almost out of my mind, and started having the shakes, where my hands start shaking, and the muscles in my legs feel painful. 1	Sinus, Chest infection	Anxiety after reading all the horror stories on the internet	I had no side effects from the avelox except maybe a taste perversion which I think I had before from the sinus infection. Actually was very pleased because I could not even tell I took it except it started working to clear up the infection within a few hours. I took it for 2 days and read up on it via the internet. Saw all kinds of horror stories about this category of drug and a website dedicated to banning it and scaring the hell out of you. Reading about all the side effects others have gotten and especially what was said on before mentioned anti website gave me extreme anxiety as I am one prone to anxiety anyway. I know of at least 2 family members who have taken this drug without any significant side effects. 1	respiratory infection	I had only taken one pill around midnight and awakened around 4:45 AM and realized that I had severe problems. Heaviness in the chest, pain down my left arm, numbness in both of my lower legs, hands shook. I really felt that I could possibly be having a heart attack and went to the ER as directed by my physician. They found nothing except a reflux condition. Later that afternoon, I took another avelox and within 2 hours my hands were shaking. I proceeded to call the pharmist and my doctor. Well, I needed to eat something (which I had just eaten an apple - but that wasn't enough). I WOULD NOT recommend this to anyone!! 5	Severe Sinusitis/Bronchitis	Bad taste in mouth, dizziness	To be fair, I am only on my third dose of a ten-day treatment; however, I have not had any major problems at this point. The first day I took the medication with food and experienced no problems. The second day I took without food and felt a little shaky and weird until I ate a substantial meal. I have had no problems today. The medication does make me feel a little dizzy at times and I have noticed a weird taste in my mouth, but this happens to me with all antibiotics. I have not had bowel or stomach issues yet. The last time I took Biaxin, I had severe stomach pains. I have to say that most of the bad reviews of this drug seem to be allergic reactions, which can occur with any new drug. I have a severe allergy to penicillin, which sends me into respiratory failure. I also developed a reaction (hives) to sulfa after taking it for five days and I still say it should not be taken off of the market. Allergic reactions happen, especially when a new drug is introduced, but that drug can be extremely beneficial for many other people. If the FDA has not removed it from the market, the benefits outweigh the allergic reactions that other people have had. I mean seriously, can you imagine if they took penicillin or sulfur off the market because of allergic reactions? What medications would we have left? 2	acute sinusitis	Prescribed a 10 day regimen for acute sinus infection. After third dose woke in middle of night with deep muscle pain in left thigh that was an 8 on a 1-10 scale. It hurts. Discontinued use immediately. No other plausible explanation for muscle pain now radiating from left knee to hip except Avelox. ENT Doctor had me concurrently on a corticosteroid inhaler which is indicated to increase the chances of tendinitis. Scares me a little to read the other posts where pain persists for months after discontinued use. Hope that won't be my experience.	I tolerated Cipro well almost 25 years ago but this third generation stuff seems considerably more potent and laden with baggage no one wants. 1	staff infections on face	Prescribed for 7day of 400mg Avelox & 10 day Bactrim 180/160 Day 1- Took Avelox at 3pm. Within 1/2hr developed headache left temple, felt jittery/uneasy. Fell asleep at 11:30pm without issue. Awoke at 4am with heart pounding and feeling fear for 10 minutes. Day 2- headache again left temple, ears ringing, sense of impending doom, pain in toe, finger joint soreness, shoulders began to feel as if strained. Took a Norcan at midnight to sleep. Awoke 5am heart pounding and again fearful for 15 minutes. Day 3- uniquely unpleasant sensation as if skin on left thigh was being burned from the inside out, dizziness, stiffness and pain in neck and spine, heart pain, jittery. Visited MD, he advised to continue only with the Bactrim for 7 more days. Will write back when infections healed. Odd leg burn continued for 3 days. 1	skin infection	My symptoms didn't start until 3 pills into the 5-day dosage. I woke up at 2:30am feeling shaky (like my blood pressure was high). It felt like I had Ben-Gay all over my body. I tried to lay there for a while to avoid going to the hospital but the feeling didn't go away. It felt like I was having an anxiety attack. I had tremors begin in my legs and getting scared I'm sure didn't help my rapid heartbeat. I finally had my husband drive me to the hospital. 1	Bronchial Infection	This medicine has a Black Box warning established July 2008. I did not notice this and my Doctor was "unaware". He prescribed this in conjuction with the inhaler Combivent. I'm not sure but the averse affect may have been the same without the inhaler. The adverse affect is still with me and it has been 15 months since the initial episode. The Avelox, almost immediately, caused damage to my hamstring tendon. I have been either on a walker or using a cane since the episode. I am slowly healing but may never be back to "normal". The warnings to the doctors speak only of the Achiles tendon but it will affect any tendon.	Should only be used as a drug of last resort and should only be allowed for prescription by Specialist who can show that they have tried all other drugs on the market to treat the disorder. I have always been an active in shape person, I can hardly ride my bike for more then 10 minutes on level 1. Constantly battling tendenitis flare ups from the smallest activity. 1	Infection prevention	I was prescribed avelox by my ENT doctor after removal of a cyst behind my ear. Three hours after this evening's dose I became very restless and felt my heart palpitating. I tried to get into bed to sleep but the palpitations persisted and seemed to get worse. I was almost ready to wake my husband up to bring me to the hospital but decided to wait it out a little. It took almost 2 hours before the palpitations subsided. It is now 3am and I feel better but I'm afraid to go to bed in case the palpitations come back and I wake up unable to breathe. 2	Garnderella Vaginalis ++++	Anxiety And severe Panic attacks, shortness of breath, dizziness, vertigos, hollucinations (mild can be content with), forgetfulness,	Started taking avelox around 14 days ago, have been taking for 3.5 days 400MG oral prescription. TOOK 7 PILLS it's 10 days since i've stopped taking it. Side effects are severe never had such side effects with any drug. Not sure if any other drug has such effects. Indeed i do have past history of anxiety and CNS (Central Nervous System) problems. I get panic attacks flying on the plane and have anxiety sleeping alone. But the doctor who prescribed it never asked me about anything just presribed it. DAY 10 after stopping, THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASING, around day 6-7 was feeling fine and from 6th day to 10th didn't had any significant anxiety not panic attacks spent them like life went back to normal. Day 10 for 3 hours felt minor panic attack, anxiety still a bit here. Going to see Neuropotologist tomorrow and discuss ways for possible treatment if needed. 4	Bronchopneumonia	Some sleeplessness, disturbing dreams, cold sweats, nausea, shaking, dry mouth, and a really odd sort of melancholy depression that leads you to feel completely comfortable with the idea of death. There's no collecting more than one or two thoughts at a time and no urge to do anything except sit around and try to collect those fleeting thoughts. Dizziness and slipping off into brief spells of unconsciousness. NOTE: Dream imagery is strictly Edgar Alan Poe kind of stuff. Emotionally challenged people may want to avoid this drug. 3	sinus infection/ear infection	this is the third time i have had this drug. after my first bout with the flu, suffered secondary ear/sinus infection. lots of pill, painkillers and cough syrup followed, i was in drug hell, constantly going to the doctors and pharmacies and was resistant to both z pack and augmentin... finally they gave me avelox, it worked and i was infection free for about 4 months.... well, here i am again, with another ear/sinus infection... crazy because i have no history of sinus/allergies etc. but was given avelox again, this time for a 14 day course... for the most part this drug gives me extreme tiredness, i take at night, but the tiredness lingers on, i can take a nap during the day if not working and still fall asleep at night as if i am taking sleeping pills. no real panic/ anxiety, however maybe a little depression but that could be because i am sick. some hot/cold chills.	this is my 3rd time with this drug, first 2 courses were 10 days and 7 days respectively, my last infection was one month ago, somehow got another. this course is going to be 14 days....
