Woke up at 5am with extreme dry mouth and had a scared feeling..Couldnt go back to sleep. I knew of this site but decided not to read any reviews on the side effects til i had tried it.I didnt want to be influenced in anyway....well i have all the same symptoms as if seems everyone else does.Another one to be careful of is Levaquin. I,m allegic to penicillin so have to keep trying these other drugs.It gets pretty scary though.So not sure what to do now as i refuse to take anymore of these..whats left for me to take..Why do Dr's not want to admit it could be the drug. I finally just took it and was surprised when it actually got rid of my symptoms, and did it with little to no side effects. On the zithromax and amoxicillin I was so tired I could hardly do anything, and the zithromax gave me a weird anxiety. Avelox was a dream in comparison, no tiredness, no anxiety or mental affects, although it did cause some slight insomnia, it was nothing compared to the insomnia I got from the zithromax. Bottom line: some infections warrant a serious antibiotic like avelox, and your doctor probably knows better than people on the internet. Keep in mind that people that have a bad experience are FAR more likely to write about it here than people with a positive experience, so you are reading reviews from a very small percentage of this drug's users. Had fair amount on fluid buildup on those joints (MRI) with the left knee 'bout twice the size of the right and the pain/pressure uncomfortable to say the least. Finally permitted to use the walker at low speed and some minor joint motion/flex exercises..(Yaaay!) It was Very tough getting used to restricted movement. I found it handy to keep a couple of 16 ounce jar of peaches in syrup for occasional dehydration (and low blood sugar ) and have had to use them (yep, completely) twice - cheap easy and works really well for me - might have saved an unplanned visit to the ER. Days 5-10 jittery, hot then cold then hot, sweating on and off, unalbe to sleep well, very thirsty, dark urine, trouble breathing on and off and some dizziness. Rapidly spread to my back, stomach, torso, legs. Burning so bad with fever of 102. Hot flashes continuing. ER doctor did Spinal Tap thinking meningitis. It was negative. Took XRay which showed phenomia was gone. Gave me Benydryl and fluids through IV & sent me home telling my to lie flat for 24 hours and not to life anything. I feel like my body is shutting down and going to see MD tomorrow. The first day I took the medication with food and experienced no problems. The second day I took without food and felt a little shaky and weird until I ate a substantial meal. I have had no problems today. The medication does make me feel a little dizzy at times and I have noticed a weird taste in my mouth, but this happens to me with all antibiotics. I have not had bowel or stomach issues yet. The last time I took Biaxin, I had severe stomach pains. I have to say that most of the bad reviews of this drug seem to be allergic reactions, which can occur with any new drug. I have a severe allergy to penicillin, which sends me into respiratory failure. I also developed a reaction (hives) to sulfa after taking it for five days and I still say it should not be taken off of the market. Allergic reactions happen, especially when a new drug is introduced, but that drug can be extremely beneficial for many other people. If the FDA has not removed it from the market, the benefits outweigh the allergic reactions that other people have had. I mean seriously, can you imagine if they took penicillin or sulfur off the market because of allergic reactions? What medications would we have left? ENT Doctor had me concurrently on a corticosteroid inhaler which is indicated to increase the chances of tendinitis. My regular doctor originally said it was upper respiratory and prescribed Z-Pac. This did nothing and I ended up at the hospital unable to breath. Was dignosed with a sinus infection and asthma like symptoms. Given 10 days of Augmentin. Felt a little better but symptoms got worse when finished. Went to idiot ENT diagnosed with sleep apnea?? Two days later could not breath at all. Phoned my son's allergy and literally crawled to office. Correctly dianosed sinus and chest full of mucus. Tried Augmentin fixed chest. Went on Avelox--OMG!Anxiety, depression, blurry vision, dry throat. After 6 days chest very tight went to allergist again -INFECTION GONE!!
