1 | Burning Mouth Syndrome | On the third day of taking this med my joints became painful and my urine has gotten darker. I've been off the med for a week now and none of the side effects have gone away. I had NO pain in my joints at all prior to using Trileptal. | The fact that the joint pain isn't going away concerns me. I already have Burning Mouth Syndrome and Tardive Dyskinsea as a permanent present from Rispadril. | F | 55 | 3 days 150 1X day | 4/9/2017 | 4 | Mood Disorder | I was a little scared at first about taking this medication because of the possibility of low sodium. I was suppose to start at 300 but my pharmacy only had 150 mg so i only took the 150 mg once daily but I was suppose to take it twice daily. I felt ok for the first 4 days but on the 5 day I woke up in a hive attack. I had little bump all over my body! It first I didn't pay it no attention because I thought it was goosebumps from being cold. So by the end of the day it didn't go I away I started to freak out. I ended up having the hive all day. The doctor told me to stop taking it. So now back to square one trying to find something that works. | F | 33 | 5 days 150 | 4/6/2017 | 3 | Deperession, bi-polar mood swings | Migraine when first starting medication or if you miss a dose.confusion upon trying to wake up.hangover feeling upon waking up.Really not caring about anything or anybody Passive.Brainfog. | Really helps with moodswings and slows down over thinking. | F | 36 | 6 months 300mg 2×da | 3/17/2017 | 4 | Bipolar 1 | Initially I was tired for the first week but, that changed quickly and I had energy and focus. I started it with an antidepressant because I was originally diagnosed with depression only then, I had a sever manic episode. It fully started working when it was the only med I was on and I had a full year of stability (the first year I would say I was unstable due to extreme stressors in my life). However, it has currently stopped working for a few months now and I have had many manic and mixed episodes with severe insomnia and panic attacks. They are switching me to Depakote. However, I am grateful for that year of stability and felt the best I had in a long time. Hopefully, the new med works well enough for me. Cheers. | F | 27 | 2 years 600 mg | 2/14/2017 | 1 | Bipolar Type 1 | Not bad, but led to sexual side-effects of impotence. | M | 34 | 4 months 300 MG 2X day | 1/29/2017 | 5 | trigeminal neuralgia | Initial tiredness on 450mgx2.pain was quickly under control and have cut back to 150mgx2 and have been on that for 12 months. No other side effects. After being on 2700mg of gabapentin to no effect this was a godsend. Cant recommend highly enough. | F | 57 | 1 years 150 mg x2 | 12/10/2016 | 5 | Mood disorder NOS, PTSD | First few days I spaced out a bit. Some headache | It's awesome. My moods are level. I think clearer, can focus, have control over my emotional reactions. I'm hoping it just continues to improve from here. I eat healthy, exercise regularly, take vitamins and supplements. I'm using this as a tool towards recovery not my only method of healing. Coming from a history of alcohol abuse to cope with PTSD symptoms. I just couldn't stop drinking. Tripital has taken all of those urges away. It is undetermined if I have a true bi polar diagnosis and if I will need to continue medication indefinitely.that I won't know until I've been away from self medicating with alcohol for some time. All I know though is without Tripital I would not stand a chance. I take 5htp, vitamin B and fish oil as well. Never was on the depressed side. My issue has always been hypomania and disassociation from PTSD triggers. So again Tripital works magic for this. I'll update on this again in a few months to report progress. | F | 32 | 2 weeks 300 mg | 11/27/2016 | 1 | my grandson for epilepsy | Suicidal aggressive depressed mind races self harm spacey and anti social | Unbelievable a neurologist would let a young boy be like this on this drug and do nothing I'm so angry | M | 9 | 1 years 600 ngs | 11/8/2016 | 2 | Bipolar Disorder | Dizziness, significant muscle weakness, loss of coordination, face looks like I have bad acne. Helps with mood swings, but it's screwing everything else up. Have fallen several times. | Didn't realize the muscle weakness is typical for many with this drug, and it's become progressively worse. Am decreasing dosage to 750/day to see how this works. | M | 60 | 18 months 900mg 1X day | 11/6/2016 | 1 | BIPOLAR 1/ANXIETY | Great if it works for you BUT DONT USE LONG TERM | It took 3 years to find a med that would work for me where the side effects weren't worse than the problem. Triliptal was good for 6 years then the side effects started happening. It was mild at first then quickly it went to what it is now – I would get stroke like events where I was unable to stand, walk, I couldn't talk right, my eyes rolled back into my head, double vision, tremors. This has happened 9 times in the past 2 years. This week was the straw the broke the camels back for me. Went to ER for earache, shortly after I get there I had an 'EPISODE'. My blood pressure was off the charts, My eyes were rolling back into my head, sometimes I had the double vision and sometimes it was both, I had tremors, I just wanted to go to sleep. They brought the crash cart and everything. 3 days of 'Observation' later, they knew what I didn't have: stroke, heart attack, aneurysm, clogged arteries or a tumor. I tried to tell them it was the Triliptal but no one would listen/believe me. It was also the first time there was any medical evidence of it actually happening. I have 11 of the 13 symptoms of the long term use side effects I am concerned about how much brain damage it is doing with every one of these episodes. If this drug works for you – awesome! But don't stay on it too long. It will mess you up. | F | 57 | 9 years 2400 1X day | 9/15/2016 | 5 | Bipolar | Tiredness initially. Now there are no side effects. | Trileptal made me pretty tired for the first few days, but I now have no side effects. It has been very, very good for relieving my depression and overall volatile mood and irritability. My bipolar is very well controlled with this as my sole mood stabilizer, in conjunction with some other types of psych meds. I have had to have the dose increased twice since going on it 8 months ago, and am now at a fairly high dose. I would definitely suggest this to someone needing a mood stabilizer. | F | 27 | 8 months 900 2X day | 9/6/2016 | 4 | Bipolar disorder | Body shakes, vomiting and dizziness the first two months. | I have used trileptal 600mg for 4 months and 300mg for 9 months and still taking. The first two months have been very tough, I vomited nearly everyday and my body was shaking head to toe. All those symptoms went away after two months but I sometimes feel restless still. I don't have the fast thoughts in my mind anymore and my mood swings are adjusted. | F | 23 | 1 years 300 | 8/31/2016 | 1 | Bipolar I | I lost my mind. I attacked someone and was charged with felony assault. I am non-violent and don't remember what I did.(Written for my child.) | I would ban this drug. Do not take because it can ruin your life. | M | 34 | 2 days 900 | 8/21/2016 | 1 | for sleep and mood stabilizer | Could not sleep at night,,very sleepy throughout the day and couldn't perform at work, headachesstomach ache | Terrible drug,,,I think the dosage was too much | F | 64 | 1 weeks 300mg 2tim | 7/22/2016 | 2 | Bipolar, Intermittent Explosive Dis | I remember having headache when first started on 300mg x2 about three years ago. Dose was upped by another 300mg/day four days ago. The intense headaches are back along with blurred vision, brain fog, facial swelling, lip numbness and tingling fingertips. May have to go back to original dose. | If you're sensitive to side effects, I recommend going very slow. | M | 36 | 3 years 300 x3 | 6/17/2016 | 1 | Facial nerve pain | I felt Ok until day 3 and starting feeling strange. Then I had a blackout and fell and injured my knee and broke my hand. Later that evening I told my husband I was going to lay down as I didn't feel well. He heard a crash and came in the bedroom and found me getting up from blacking out and hitting my face on the edge of the nightstand. I ended up with a badly cut lip that left me with a nasty scar. I ended up in the hospital where they ran all kind of test and discovered I an one of 3% that they know of that has this happened as a result of the med. Maybe it would be more if more doctors reported it. It causes loss of sodium in the blood and I had water on my brain or in my brain forget which they said. No, I would not recommend this to anyone. | 72 | 4 days 3X day | 6/13/2016 | 2 | Anxiety and mood stabilizers | Extreme anxiety upon starting tripertal | I'm on a low dose right now | F | 48 | 2 days 150 | 4/28/2016 | 4 | Bipolar II | Weight gain, lack of coordination, impaired memory, poor depth perception, poor thyroid function, some dizziness | I was on the brand name which worked quite well to keep my moods in check (along with talk therapy, good nutrition, eating & sleeping at precise schedules, no alcohol or drugs, etc.). I enjoy feeling the highs & lows in life so I've kept my doses low. Some years I needed a little extra in the Fall to curb depression and sometimes in the Spring to curb mania (but I never need more than about 600mg total for the day). The side effects were horrible at first but most subsided within a few months and with time/therapy I found ways to cope with the rest. But with Medicare, I had to switch to a generic form, as I could not afford $500+/mo. I became completely unstable, all the side effects got worse and I now have bad anxiety attacks. I am weaning off this drug, adding some lithium and will be trying a new anticonvulsant. | F | 66 | 14 years 225 2X day | 4/19/2016 | 3 | Bipolar | Terrible headache | How long til headache goes away? | F | 51 | 4 days 900 | 4/18/2016 | 4 | bi-polar with anxiety disorder | Tiredness, but able to get through the day. It really works with my other meds I take day and at night. This is a Miracle drug I think. | Took a while to get adjusted to it. | F | 50 | 7 years 600 mg 2X day | 3/13/2016 |
