| 1 | More than 40 side effects | 18 of more than 40 side effects are due to the reaction Trileptal has with Sodium. The lips begin to chap, heavy levels of Flem buildup in the lungs, throat and sinus track, Oedema Peripheral, balance disorder, speech disorder, Dysphagia, Dyspnoea, Hot Flashes, dry mouth and throat, syncope, Asthenia memory impairment, memory impairment, balance disorder, number and letters are reversed, High sodium levels in the body short circuit the direction of the fingers while typing, even though I a verbally saying the proper letter. Insomnia comes when fluid retention reaches its peak lasting approximately two and a half hours. Fluid retention, the urethra shuts down urine flow to almost nothing and later opens like an uncontrollable flood. Sodium level drops so lower surgery was canceled. Weight increase increases in several days and then decreases 3 to 7 pounds in less than 8 hours dropping sodium level in the body. Trileptal and Naproxen do not work well together, urine turns in t | Bone density continues to be destroyed by Trileptal. Forteo has been used three different times to increase bone density, when stopped bone density declines. Hypothyroidism, RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME, acid reflux, The nerves begin to tingle on the scalp and begin to spread down into the chest and arms. As the patient, I have been dealing with more than what has been entered, doctors have a difficult time accepting what I am experiencing. They doubt what is being said until they uncover what is taking place. Approximately 12 to 18 months after starting Trileptal I was told I was massively asthmatic. The medications did not work. When seeing a different doctor he did not believe me until one appointment there was no wheezing, no phlegm build-up anywhere to be found. Sodium had been completely dropped from the diet, when I began to use sodium a few weeks later it returned. In the beginning, I was prescribed three 600mg tablets daily. The information I have entered covers some of what I have experienced. I began lowering the Trileptal intake down to just two 300mg pills a day late last year. When I moved to Washington State last November, I began to lower the Trileptal intake and began using RSO - Rick Simpson Oil - Cannabis Oil. The Trileptal was down to just 150mg when I woke up and RSO when I went to bed due to the reaction that took place when taken at the same time. On August 4, only RSO was taken for the Epilepsy and has seizure activity controlled. I recommend you supplement with vitamin D if on this drug and if female have hormone levels checked regularly. if you gain weight like I did, I have found I can keep my weight down by significantly increasing the amount of vegetables in my meals. not sure if it's the fiber or nutrients. I gained 35 pounds ( I was skinny though) over 3 years but lost 20 of those when I began eating better. While in the psychiatric hospital, they put me on Trileptal. At first, I paced the halls and wanted to crawl right out of my skin. They lowered it back down, and I was able to get used to it. After sometime, my mood swings leveled. It helped me very much. It also helped to make the Effexor work better. After many years, I lowered my dose from 150 milligrams 2 times a day, down to 225 mg per day I don't know why. Seems to be what bipolar people do. Doc raised it back up to 300 mg a day. I struggled with suicidal thoughts, and depression was worse. It took a few weeks to level out. | If sensitive to meds, I recommend starting off on a low dosage of maybe 100mg. All I remember was having awful concentration and I would have to nap for 1 1/2 hours after school each day so I could function in the evening. I was still social but probably somewhat depressed due to the drug and the epilepsy. I was seizure free for 4 years (that includes 2 years on Tegretol and 2 years on Trileptal). My dose was increased and although I was still living a happy life, the same side effects were bothersome. I was seizure free for 7 1/2 years and recently had a breakthrough seizure. I remember that each time my doctor increase the dose, the depression, concentration issues, mental fog, irritability increased. I was still living a functional and productive life. I graduated college top of my class and am about to finish grad school in several weeks. After my most recent seizure my doctor increased my dose and now I am taking 1950mg/day. Since this last seizure several months ago I have not felt like myself. I feel like a zombie, have even worse concentration, have no motivation, am depressed, have constant headaches, anxiety, etc. My doctor put me on lexapro but that hasn't helped at all. Although Trileptal has been extremely successful in controlling my seizures, I do not think I am tolerating this dose and plan to switch to Lamictal. This was my own personal experience with the drug and do not let this affect your decision to take the drug. This has happened 9 times in the past 2 years. This week was the straw the broke the camels back for me. Went to ER for earache, shortly after I get there I had an 'EPISODE'. My blood pressure was off the charts, My eyes were rolling back into my head, sometimes I had the double vision and sometimes it was both, I had tremors, I just wanted to go to sleep. They brought the crash cart and everything. 3 days of 'Observation' later, they knew what I didn't have: stroke, heart attack, aneurysm, clogged arteries or a tumor. I tried to tell them it was the Triliptal but no one would listen/believe me. It was also the first time there was any medical evidence of it actually happening. I have 11 of the 13 symptoms of the long term use side effects I am concerned about how much brain damage it is doing with every one of these episodes. If this drug works for you – awesome! But don't stay on it too long. The doctor (who is brilliant and renowned for chemical disorders) put me on effexor and trileptal. I had the worst ITCHING and HIVES I have ever had and since I was there for 28 days I begged him to take me off it. He said I would have to stick through it and it would make my life signifigantly better. He was completely right, after 2 weeks my body was completely back to normal with no itching or strange feelings. I would definately recommend if you are itching on this drug, DONT STOP just because of the itching...it will go away and it is worth it..BIG TIME!! Its not that i have no emotion..its that i have little reaction to conversations and events. | Just remember..this IS an epileptic medication..im getting into the END field and i know that if u are on a high dose and ur in a hurry to get off..u WILL have seizures..be sure to have ur prescriptions filled ON TIME. I had incidents where i ran out of trileptal and i took 1,200 mg per day and i blacked out 3 times in 15 minutes before school and rushed to hospital. I shook and shook then fell then got up and couldnt talk for a minute cuz i was in some state of shock. It was very scary. Do not start on a high dose either. Dont let TREMORS scare u..its usually normal with meds. This is a med u need to be patient with but it has helped me alot considering ive been on it so long. Its good to combine with an antidepressant as well like wellbutrin. I am NOT epileptic and i still had seizures during withdrawls. This medication acts/was meant for seizures but has its other purposes. Just remember to be careful. This doesnt have serious long term effects like an antipsychotic would.
