5  heartburn reflux Protonix has been a life saver for me. Nothing else worked. I have to take the name brand. Generic did NO good. My doctor always has to prior aurhuorize brand name for the insurance company. Heaven forbid you would have to take name brand in their eyes.it is the best medicine I've ever had for my stomach trouble. F 10 years

4  Nausea from foods No side effects at all, took middle of the day I took this for 2 months for nausea after eating certain foods. It helped some, but some foods still gave me nausea, the doc had said that I would be able to eat everything. He wanted me to take it forever, but the manufacturer said they have not done any studies of long term side effects after 60 days. F 60 days

3  Acid reflux Serious weight gain Protonix/pantoprazole works however the weight gain is something I cannot deal with any longer. 25 lbs over a 2 year period. Back has started to hurt from additional weight and found it isn't good for your bones. Went off it cold turkey a few days ago & now take 1 Pepcid AC tablet at night and started taking Aloe Vera gels. Will see if the weight comes off and if the Aloe Vera gels & Pepcid AC work.

2  GERD Anxiety and depression, Tremor. It worked really well for my GERD but have stopped taking it because realized it was causing anxiety disorder and tremor. Turns out that lots of these drugs can have that as a side effect (Aciphex, Prevacid), so am going back to prilosec. F 3 months

2  heartburn, acidreflux, nausea, pain I felt nauseous and had a loss of appetite, even worse than I experienced from my acid reflux. It helped slightly, but not as much as nexium did. After ten days I decided to switch back to nexium. Now my doctor thinks he was wrong all along and that I really have lazy gallbladder. If you ae experiencing these symptoms and your other tests are normal, ask about lazy gallbladder. F 15 10 days

Patient History
1  Abdominal pain severe anxiety/panic attacks, depression, nightmares, severe exhaustion and fatigue, loss of appetite, headaches, itchy skin and dermatographia (swelling when you scratch your skin) Thanks to this website we finally figured out that the devastating side effects that my daughter was experiencing were caused by Protonix. Within a few days of starting Protonix, she began to experience severe anxiety (constant, never ending panic attack), depression, nightmares, severe exhaustion, loss of appetite, headaches, itchy skin and dermatographia. Her doctors didn’t suspect that Protonix was the cause because these don'tt appear on the list of potential side effects. Then I found hundreds of patient postings on this website and on similar websites recounting the same side effects, and I came across a report published recently by Italian researchers that linked PPIs to severe anxiety (author is Giovanni Polimeni, you can google name and “PPIs” to find it).I contacted Dr. Polimeni, who told me that others are researching the link and in some countries (including Italy), the list of possible side effects for PPIs has recently been amended to include neuropsych side effects. If you experience these side effects, it is NOT in your head. Consult your doctor immediately and report the side effects to the FDA. It’s very easy to do online, you fill out a MedWatch online voluntary reporting form, www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm Few if any people report the side effects to the FDA, so they remain considered “rare” or nonexistent. My daughter stopped the med a week ago and within 24 hours we saw a huge reduction in the side effects; she continues F 17 5 weeks

3  Stomach Ulcers This was a good prescription for me for a long while, I did however have some bad days with it but until recently it was revolutionary to me and my gastrointestinal discomfort from my stomach ulcers, however, the past few days that I've been on it have been really really off, ive had a lot of constant feelings of fatigue, I already had insomnia but even with taking 500mg of Valerian root I can't sleep with this medication, I also have had very little issues with anxiety before but I have felt way more anxious lately and even began to think I was having a panic attack, I also noticed that my brain has stayed in a state of a heavy fog almost all the time and I tend to develop random migranes, ive been on this medication for a long time but I'm beginning to think that its time I stop it. Different people react differently to different medication.. but from what I'm reading and from my results compared to all the others, I think its safe to say that you'll likely be dissatisfied with this medication.  2  Erosive Gastritis I have severe headaches on and off. My doctor said it would take at least SIX MONTHS before I MIGHT see results. I stay home, don't go to school, and have no job. I have been ill for 2 years. I don't have time for medicine that works so slowly, even if it works at all. F 19 2 months

1  stomach ulcer, acid reflux Always tired, dizzyness, Extreme migranes after stopping, body aches, tingling in left arm and face, left eye twitching. I havent been properly diagnosed yet, but i went to the E.R. because i had an allergic reaction to prevacid. they put me on protonix as a replacement. After i saw GI specialist, he put me on some other meds. I thought the other meds where causing all the bad side effects, but after stopping those, i knew it had to be the protonix. Terrible medicine, Ill never take it again. M 19 7 days

1  reflux headache constantly, whole left side of body hurt, jaw pain, joint pain, left side chest pain, ringing ears, tingling fingers/feet, extreme weight loss (silver lining?), EXTREME anxiety and depression, blurred vision, heavy head. scratchy throat. i had convinced myself i was going insane. there was no way a little pill would make me feel all this, right? WRONG. been on this pill for almost 2 months now and it's been a nightmare. headaches keep me from participating in normal activities. my anxiety is so bad that i can barely leave my room (i'm in college). i thought i had a brain tumor because of all the weird symptoms i was having. made me feel like i was losing my mind. my knees, wrists, and hips have never hurt so bad in my life. muscles ache like crazy. had flu like symptoms. tired all the time. i advise no one to take this drug. i'm going to talk to my dr about different alternatives. please let me know if these side effects went away for you and how long it took. it's ruining my life.  1  gastritis brain fog, confusion, forgetfulness, muscle spasms, joint pain, numbness of face, arms and legs, anxiety, insomnia, pins and needles, weight loss i have anxiety already, mixed with this drug and the side effects i had, i was convinced i was having a stroke and dying. legs and arms would either be numb or in extreme pain or sometimes even both! face and neck would go numb and start twitching. i would much rather deal with the upset stomach than feel like im going to drop dead at any minute and i was not made aware of any of these side effects until i found this website. i will never touch this poison again.  3  Stomach pain Severe abdominal cramps, headache, worsened IBS, fatigue, weakness, muscle aches When I first started taking it, it worked wonderfully. Then, after about 5 months they up my dose and I started having really bad side effects. I had stomach cramps so badly they sent me to the ER. They took me off it for 2 months and recently put me back on it and the cramps are back again, along with a whole bunch of new side effects. Does anyone know if you can build up an allergy or resistance to it? F 20 6 months
