| 5 | Bipolar Mixed State | LOOK PEOPLE! After reading everyone's posts, the reason Geodon is getting so many low ratings is because you relied on your doctor only, to take whatever they prescribed you with without doing your homework. Mental Illness is hard but doable (I've been inpatient 10 times in my life for different reasons; half of them to stay safe when I was suicidal for whatever reason) Again, most of you are at fault because of your lack of study on the drug's POSSIBLE side effects and your willingness to just take what's being given to you without any accountability on your part. Some doctors are to blame. Some are not. I have found that Geodon is for Bipolar MIXED STATE only! Geodon may work for you if you are diagnosed with something else because I'm not the end alls of user testimonials. Quit knocking the drug and STOP leaving feedback at the first sign of a side effect. Is anyone on here JUST on GEODON because I've always been on a combination. To those with Bipolar MIXED STATE, give it a chance by giving it at least a few months try because it takes time to adjust and get used to. "I was on it for one week and "freaked" out." "It's the most evil drug out there." I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I have had a personal experience with the antipsychotic Seroquel, where I can say it isn't a good fit for me because, after doing my research before taking the drug, weighing out the POSSIBLE side effects found on the drug maker's website and after talking with my psychiatrist in depth, I had foggy thinking and rapid weight gain. If it helped me sleep or balanced the chemicals in my mind, I would have kept taking it even with the weight gain. This being said, I have a relative that takes it and it's the only thing that works for him. I'm only giving it a "1" rating because I want people to see it so people will be able to make a decision based on logic, not fear. I took seraquel with them (thought I should add). I have read all of the negative reviews and understand that it doesn't work for everyone. I have not gained any weight due to the Geodone. When I have gone up in seraquel I gained. I got off Geodone while trying to get pregnant and was put on Latuda. I gained 50 pounds and was in a horrible mental place. I switched back to Geodone once we made the decision to stop trying (it was causing me stress I have an ovarian disorder and fertility issues). Within 3 weeks i felt like myself again. It has helped with my moods, auditory hallucinations, paranoia, anger and just over all well-being. While on Geodone I have been able to keep the same job for 9 years, get my bachelors degree and graduate with honors and get married and be in a healthy stable relationship and have meaningful healthy strong relationships with family and friends. All things I struggled with before Geodone. Read up on medications, ask questions, get second opinions but also do work on yourself and be active in your treatment methods. Therapy, have a support system, educate yourself and loved ones, identify triggers and ask for help. A pill isn't the only answer. Give Geodone a chance but be honest and keep in contact with your provider. Geodone has been my saving grace. It got better after three months but I still have to take Provigil to wake me up in the morning and allow me to drive to work. | Geodon saved my life. I have suffered with obesity my whole life, so I really don't know whether or not to blame Geodon for my morbid obesity and metabolic syndrome. I have lost 100 pounds four times while on it, but I gained the weight back and more each time. Blinking over 200 times a minute which would prevent you from passing a reading eye exam, you cannot read, and you look like a freak. I could not see what I was writing while I was typing it when I was blind. My dose was lowered from 140mg to 20 mg and then I could read again and the rapid eye blinking blindness stopped, and I am determined to stop taking this poison. I was a lucky to have survived and gotten my sight back, but I still have the liver problem and I do not drink alchohol or use other illegal drugs so all liver issues would have to be psychiatric drug related. Plus now my heart is being monitored with ECGs. I have such slowed thinking that I may not be able to work after graduating from college in a technical major with honors. These drugs took 15 years of my life and might destroy my future. It made going to school alot harder than when I wasn't taking them. I am so sorry I got mixed up with psychiatrists, therapists promoting drugs, and social workers. That was the biggest mistake of my life, because they all just try to get me hooked on another disabling drugs. Not only did it stop my crying, but it took away laughter. Any ability to live was lost. Mostly, I isolated, and still do. I have 5 kids. Most of their events, I missed. I can never get years back! The tears have returned, but the joy is elusive. I can't imagine choosing to take Geodon, knowing what I do now! If I were not God's child, saved thru the blood of Jesus Christ, I'd have strongly considered suicide. It's THAT BAD! One good thing is, my withdrawal. I was taking 3 capsules a day. Weaned myself. Amazingly, our child came to life: eating new foods, laughing, becoming more animated, taking new initiatives, and never doing worse than with Geodon. His WILL returned and was now stronger than his “anxiety.” We withdrew from the private school for children with learning disabilities and re-enrolled in the public school that had started truancy proceedings 1½ years earlier. Now, halfway through the school year, he gets himself up and dressed, has never been late, has changed all of his classes to advanced placement, controls his frustrations, and his dull, uninvolved look is gone. He is animated and expressive making real friends. SUMMARY: Geodon was a lifesaver when our child was young. But as he matured, the medicine continued to suppress his “will.” His psychiatrists never connected his school and life troubles with the medicine. We should have stopped Geodon earlier. GEODON (ZIPRASIDONE HYDROCHLORIDE): Ziprasidone injection is used to treat occurrences of severe agitation in patients with schizophrenia. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain. Ziprasidone injection is used when quick relief of your symptoms is required. It is not used together with the form of this medication that is taken by mouth. An injection of ziprasidone works quickly to reduce tension and anxiety which, if untreated, can result in dangerous behavior and interfere with your treatment and care.
