5  Depression Fatigue, Sexual side effects. I am 51 years old and have been on 40 MG of generic Celexa for 12 plus years for depression. I tried about 5 different drugs for depression before this one. I am very happy with the drug, although ability to orgasm has been negatively affected this whole time. I can still have an orgasm, but not as easily as before. Libido not affected for me, just climax. Still, it is worth it for the relief from depression, which was a severe lifelong issue for me. I stopped it cold turkey at one point and withdrawal was severe. I will probably be taking it for the rest of my life. F 51 12 years

5  Anxiety & panic attacks I had no side effects except for weight gain. I could not use generic; it didn't work. My anxiety returned and panic attacks. I never felt any negative effects from the drug. I stopped taking it because my insurance would no longer cover the cost. I am now taking fluoxetine which, so far, is better than anything else I tried over the years. I still have some anxiety and feel panic at times. F 75 20 years

5  Anxiety Severe dizziness and anxiety, unable to function but I stuck with it and now have no anxiety and am able to return to work and feel like myself again. Please stick with it. Getting off it is another story. I have tried. I’m resigned to this but I’ll take it. Do NOT go off this medication without doctor supervision. It made me suicidal. F 55 16 days

5  Anxiety, panic attacks Weight gain was my only side effect for the first 18 years. From day 1 I never felt like I was on medication and my anxiety improved 100 %. I still have panic attacks but they are few and far between. I am looking to try another drug only because I’m having some side effects: fatigue, excessive perspiring, higher blood pressure to name a few. No other reason for the side effects have come to light, so we are trying the change. I had outstanding results on Celexa. F 73 19 years

5  Anxiety/menopause Only major side effects I have noticed is morning sleepiness and then weight gain. But its nice to actually have my appetite back because before I was on celexa I couldnt eat because of severe anxiety was so bad. For me its been good. But 1st month on it was definitely a little rocky but I pushed through because I had read up on it and the side effects are always worse in the beginning for most ppl. Stick with it if you can. Is a very slow recovery so you have to have patience for sure. F 51 4 months

5  Anxiety First few weeks felt like there was a fist clenched in the front of my head and I would get very fatigued. I also got the 'rare' side effect of very high heart rate. Happened multiple times. Still get a little flutter here and there but oh well. It's worth it. Love this drug. Helps tons. While I do still get some anxiety, episodes are few and far between, and when it does happen it will last for far less time. F 31 11 months

5  Mild depression after major injury None After a major injury I was reluctant to 'get up and go' on a daily basis. I was emotional at small things and for no reason. After Citalopram I am a very level realistic and optimistic person, I have tried a couple of times to come off of it thinking I don't need it with no problem addiction-wise, however I go back to being emotional and feel like I am a better person for all around me when I take it :) F 23 1 years

5  Severe anxiety & Severe major depre Initial side effects wore off after a couple weeks. I continue to notice brain fogginess and confusion, I've become quite forgetful and have a hard time focusing. It's quite frustrating but the medication has done me wonders. Give it a shot, the initial side effects will go away and it will likely help a lot. I've been happier and more energised since I started taking it, it's only my mind that is a bit less sharp (adjusting my dosage to see if it helps). F 24 1 years

5  GAD and Depression A follow up.......This is a fantastic drug. I was started on 10 mg and went through the normal side effects which left after 3 to 4 weeks. My doctor boosted my dosage to 20 mg. Too much. Too medicated. Went back to 10 mg and will hold with this dose. I feel fantastic. I'm a senior and the FDA has now stated that 20 mg is the highest dose a person over the age of 60 should be prescribed. More mgs. may not help but hurt. Great for senior citizens at 10 mg at least for me. Anything stronger is too much. M 68 4 months

5  anxiety, insomnia Sleepiness (took before bedtime to address this), some minor discomfort during first week of taking it as I adjusted to it then went away. Great drug for me. Took 2-3 weeks to kick in but worked well. Relieved my terrible anxiety which in turn allowed me to sleep. Took an hour before bed as it made me sleepy. Put my mind into a calmer state but not overly so. Took for 2 years and weaned off over 2 week period with only minor discomfort. Took 20mg for year 1 and 10mg during year 2. M 55 2 years

5  GAD & Depression Nausea, Insomnia, Lack of Appetite, Restlessness, Fatigue and Yawning Through the years I've suffered from Generalized Anxiety Disorder and seemed to handle it on my own through diet, exercise and my spiritual faith. This cursed condition runs in the family. When the anxiety really got too much the doctor prescribed Xanax to use as needed when it got too much to handle. I'm a retired senior citizen and this winter really got to me. I was stricken with the most horrible and wicked bout of anxiety which led to a bout of depression which I really never experienced before. All of this stuff was brought on by some ongoing unresolved family issues which kept building up and I guess I had a massive meltdown. It seemed like my world was ending before my eyes. I was really lost. I have a wonderful family physician and she prescribed this miracle drug to me. She said many of her patients had great success with it. I was warned that the first 2 weeks were not pleasant at all but I knew I had to just "suck it up" to let this med work to heal me. By the end of the 3rd week I really began to see light at the end of the tunnel. A new calm and peace I've never experienced in all of my years. I am now entering my 5th week and I really feel a new sense of normal that is totally new to me... Whoever may be trying this for the 1st time....please don't give up. I had a follow-up with the doctor yesterday and she is keeping me on 10mg. This dosage is working for me. M 67 1 months

5  Anxiety and depression Weight gain, hair loss and breakage, total fatigue , short temper, antisocial and reclusive. Despite all the side effects of these pills- this drug does its job! I put my behavioural side effects down to my actual illness. As I reduced my dose - the hair started growing. I was able to do thing again and life just got better - I was keen to get off my pills ASAP ... I had to learn to just take the time to get better and enjoy my time out of the rat race!.. Life can be too fast for too long. F 39 3 years

5  Major Depression I found that stopping Celexa was worse than starting. Some of this might have been because I was so depressed and that the side effects were tolerable in the beginning. However, when I stopped taking Celexa I felt really nauseous for over a month straight and have been having weird electric shock sensations. I think my body must be more sensitive because I had taken over three months to wean off under the supervision of my doctor and still had some bad side effects when stopping. Despite this, I would defiantly consider taking Celexa again if I need to. I was in the depths of major depression and wanted to kill myself. I have never been so sad and did not see any hope. After talking with my doctor she recommended Celexa. I was hesatant to start taking an antidepressant because I thought it would be a life long thing but she told me that I could take the medication for the short term like 6 to 8 months to see if it would help. It did take some time to kick in but after about two months I was back to my old self and smiling. For me Celexa was a great tool that, along with counseling and lifestyle changes, helped me to live again. I am so glad I got help and did not give up. F 31 8 months

5  anxiety tired at first and very chilled I am taking citalopram (generic) I used to be very anxious and had a hard time waiting in lines at the store, driving in traffic, impatience with people, etc. That has improved greatly and I am now pretty patient and have the VERY relaxed feeling most of the day but little motivation. I'm pretty much just in the 'whatever'... mood most of the day. ha. It did make my period late, as I have read about others also. Don't be scared to take this med. It is pretty good stuff and the relaxed feeling from it is nice. F 48 2 weeks
