RATING | REASON | SIDE EFFECTS FOR ZONEGRAN | COMMENTS | SEX | AGE | DURATION/ DOSAGE | DATE ADDED |
5 | Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy | Increase in thirst, minor slurring of speech at times, weight loss, decreased appetite, occasional hot flashes. | M | 11 | 1 months 125mg | 4/19/2014 | 4 | Seizures | Difficulty sleeping, drowsiness during the day, forgetting words, | I like it! It saved me. It allows me to work and function as a normal human being. I was on Keppra and then Trileptal. Those caused more seizures. It was crazy!! | M | 52 | 6 months 400 | 3/24/2015 | 4 | Daily tension headaches | I feel stupid, mental processing slowed way down and Memory loss. | M | 15 | 86 days 200mg 1X day | 8/26/2020 | 4 | Seizures | My memory is not what it should be. Mild depression | It controls my seizures so the benefits outweigh the side effects. | M | 48 | 2 years 300mg | 10/21/2019 | 3 | epilepsy | Agitation, irritation, hostility, impulsiveness, suicidal thoughts, raised Dilatin | Zonegran seemed to be good until it built up in my system and I increased it to 5500mg per day. FDA nor the maker provided a warning stating it has negative side effects on patients who have had trauma and/or surgery. Because this information was lacking on the container I had impulsiveness, hostile feelings, agitation, and suicidal thoughts to name a few things. It also resulted in me retiring early from a position I've held over 17 years. Another warning that was missed is that this med can increase Dilantin and I became toxic on Dilantin. Carefully and thoroughly research the med yourself and I would say that it's not best to trust someone totally because he or she has a piece of paper stating that an md was received. "FDA Approved" is another thing that doesn't guarantee this med is safe and all possible impacts are listed/known and that a neurologist is aware of hem. | M | 50 | 6 months 400 1X day | 7/4/2016 | 3 | epilepsy | since ive been on this med ive had loads of side effects like confusion, memory crap, processes info not as quickly/accurately, agitation, loss of consentration, cognitive slowness- mind seems to be elsewhere, forgets what im going to say when its in my head for a minute then its gone, less engaged in activities, feel like im in my own little world, someones speaking to me goes in one ear and out the other, weird thoughts and suisidal thoughts | also im getting loads of abnormal/vivid dreams and they're really weird, sorry nothing to do with zonegran, im also on loads of other meds too, these have been working since ive been on them as i have grandmal sz and complex partial sz and the last grandmal i had was 14th august last year and last cp was on 9th february this year they come in clusters | M | 25 | 150mg 1X day | 3/20/2019 | 3 | Partial Epliepsy | None really | Started to take in 2004 after control with Depakote and Tegretol XR peaked. Helped for a while but has not totally cured the seizures; still occur approximately twice a month. | M | 21 | 5.5 years 200 Mg 2X day | 2/28/2010 | 3 | neurological pain | bad insomnia constpation | M | 39 | 30 times | 3/8/2004 | 3 | migraines | narcolepsy, apathy, slowness of thoughts | .it was very hard to make the decision to stop taking zonegran because it was the only thing that ever helped my migraines. But I could no longer deal with the loss of my mental functions, and falling asleep at inappropriate times ( i.e. on the job! ) However I must add that I may consider going back on this | M | 42 | 12 months | 2/4/2005 | 2 | Epilepsy | Weight loss for the first 3 months, consistent expressive aphasia (can't get the words out) and recall memory problems that became worse as dosage was increased. Skin rash at 500 mg/d. Ultimately didn't control the seizures so discontinued it. | M | 20 | 9 months | 7/11/2006 | 2 | High CSF pressure | Left arm weakness and slight left leg weakness | M | 57 | 21 days | 9/24/2009 | 1 | Epilepsy | Horrible vomiting which caused metabolic acidosis. The metabolic acidosis was almost not reversible and my son almost died. | My son almost died from this drug. I found a 24 page document at the FDA that said the #1 problem with this drug (in adults during clinical trials) in the GI tract was vomiting. It was not mentioned in the PDR or the package insert. I found it on my own and told the doctor we needed to wean from it to see if the vomiting decreased. It did. My son almost didn't make it. This is not a benign drug. | M | 5 | 11 months | 8/17/2005 | 1 | seizure | My 8-year-old son starting taking Zonegran at 11:00 P.M. last Saturday. At 11:30 P.M. the next day he started becoming dizzy and disoriented. A half hour later, he fell to the ground and had a grand mal seizure. This lasted about 6-8 minutes. In the hospital ER, he had a severe headache and abdominal pains. My neurologist was not convinced it was the drug, but we disagree. My son at age 8 has never had a seizure without a fever--which places him as atypical, and this one was in the absence of a fever; however, he did have a fever the following day. | M | 8 | 1 days 25 mg 1X day | 9/4/2013 | 1 | Migraine Prevention | Major weight loss, no appetite ,irritability, agitation, extreme sleepiness and tiredness, can't concentrate. Uti with kidney stones. | M | 15 | 2 months 75mg | 1/9/2020 | 5 | Migraines | The only side effect I'm having is very vivid dreams. I wish I would have the lack of appetite/weight loss, but never have had that effect from this drug (this is not my first time taking it). | Working for my migraines - right now, at least. Better than the Ajovy I was taking before, and the Trokendi before that. | F | 51 | 45 days 100mg 1X day | 9/4/2022 | 5 | Migraines | Tinglingly and numness in hands and face causes an itchy feeling, Periodic loss of appetite or weird cravings, hot flashes/fevers , insomnia/weird dream, and somedays my brain doesn't think quite as well as it did I feel like a dingbat | I was having 4-5 migraines a week I have had two since starting this med finally some relief the migraines I did Have were caused by very stressful days the day prior | F | 21 | 3 months | 1/21/2016 | 5 | epilepsy | First few weeks insomia, hair loss , weight loss butt after few weeks all came back to normal | I did not have any episode in 3 years. Love it. And now Im 6 month preggo. | F | 32 | 3 years 300mg 1X day | 3/11/2010 | 5 | migraines | Sleepiness, sometimes forget words, not sure if that is from medication. | F | 58 | 4 years 400 mg | 8/6/2013 | 5 | Mixed Bipolar II/ADD | None, except maybe a slowing of my thoughts. | I've been taking 50 miligrams for quite some time. I didn't experience the weight loss that I thought I would, but it has really helped my mood and my organization! | F | 17 | 6 months | 12/12/2005 | 5 | Migraine | 200mg at night. I took this drug before I went to bed. I had to sleep with the light on just until I fell asleep because of extreme hallucinations that haunted me. The hallucinations were so real too. I saw monks hovering over me... It felt like a salvia trip sort of. Besides this it works SOO GOOD for migraines preventative treatment. It works similar to Topamax just without the nasty, unbearable side effects. Topamax made me stupid, cold hands feet, speech problems, waking dreams and sleep paralysis. | This works soo good for migraines without the nasty side effects. It made me lose a ton of weight too. I gained it back when I stopped taking it for a bit but that could be because of a few other reasons though. | F | 24 | 1.5 years | 3/6/2007 |
