First started in 2002 and same side effects i mentioned. Till 2006 i took 2 Xenical tablets before meals. It kept me no matter what i eat in same weight that time. But i decided not to use it later because of the warnings of some doctors. After stopping this medicine i started to gain weight and believe or not i put somehow 50 pounds in 3 years time. Then i decided to use Xenical once again, in fact it did not make me lose weight and side effects came back. Now over a year now, i use Xenical, and it don't make me lose weight, even gained few pounds. I think if u use for the time period, it helps to stay in same weight. But if you give a break later and restart this medicine, you don't lose weight at all. Side effects can occur as we all know and no need to mention especially within 1st & 2nd year and lessens afterwards, but oily thing never goes away. I think it works for not everyone but some and if you stop taking it, then never ever restart Xenical because it don't help at all. Somehow your body get used to this medicine and restarting it, don't make you lose weight at all. I understand now. All we need is to reorganize our diet and lose weight. My reading was sub 40, which was very low, but also highly unusual as I get lots and lots of sunshine (I own a farm and work outdoors most of the day without sunscreen!) and also I eat lots of fresh eggs and tinned tuna and salmon. If anyone should have high D, I should. The only thing we can come up with is my 9 months of Xenical which would have inhibited the absorption of vitamin D as it is fat absorbed and Xenical was getting rid of any excess fat I was intaking. 18 months after ceasing Xenical, I'm now thinking it may still be inhibiting my absorption of vitamin D. Who knows? I'm just throwing it out there as a possible side effect and I would suggest post menopausal women who have taken Xenical for a while, have their vitamin D levels checked to make sure they're OK for absorbing calcium - hopefully to avoid osteoporosis. | F | 58 | 9 months | 4/20/2009 | 5 | overweight | I am on Xenical since end of November. XENICAL (ORLISTAT): This medication is used with a doctor-approved exercise, behavior change, and reduced-calorie diet program to help you lose weight. It is used by certain overweight people, such as those who are obese or have weight-related medical problems. Taking orlistat can also help keep you from gaining back weight you have lost. Losing weight and keeping it off can lessen the many health risks that come with obesity, including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and a shorter life. Dietary fats need to be broken down into smaller pieces before the body can absorb them. Orlistat works by blocking the enzyme that breaks down fats in your diet. This undigested fat then passes out of your body in your bowel movement. Orlistat does not block the absorption of calories from sugar and other non-fat foods, so you still need to restrict your total intake of calories.
