ALDARA  (IMIQUIMOD):  This medication is used to treat certain types of growths on the skin. These are precancerous growths (actinic keratoses), a certain type of skin cancer (superficial basal cell carcinoma), and warts on the outside of the genitals/anus. Treating these conditions can decrease complications from them. Imiquimod belongs to a group of drugs called immune response modifiers. It is believed to work by helping to activate your immune system to fight these abnormal skin growths. This product is not recommended for use on children under 12 years of age unless specifically directed by your doctor.   FDA Approval Date: 1997-02-27 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  GW There was a lot of pain during the first week of using it, but 4-5 days in my GW's were COMPLETEY gone and have not recurred, and by week 2 there barely is any pain when applied, only mild itching and irritation every now and then Definitely recommended, the process can be painful but it has good results in the end 20 2 months

3  GW Oozing sores, blisters, and discoloration of the skin. I used it very sparingly like the doctor recommended. Its been 2 months since I stopped the treatment and my skin is very discolored and is still flaking. I am putting on vitamin D oil to hopefully help with the scaring. Limiting my bathing so the skin underneath the flakes can heal. I would not reccomend this drug. The skin is bright red now and would be very alarming to any female I may encounter. I wish more people would talk to their partners about HPV if they know they have it. My ex gave it to me without telling me. Very sad that people are like this. M 23 3 months

1  Genital warts I experienced itching during the first week of using this topical medication, which was not present before. I ignored it because my doctor did tell me there would be some irritation. By week 2, the itching was still there accompanied by soreness and now not even fully through week 3 and I have blisters and soreness everywhere that this cream possibly touched. Definitely would not be using this again. F 21 3 weeks

2  Anal warts None (except nausea 2 times without being able to say if it was related to the treatment or not) although I put the cream on the whole anal area and not only on the warts themselves. No visible effect on the 14 warts, except that they seems to change of color being some days more red and other days more white. But still there :/ Eager to reach the end of the 3 months treatment to make more a final idea. M 38 2 weeks

3  Genital Warts Burning, itching, sores, redness, blisters I was told to use Aldara 3 times a week. I have clusters of warts around both my anal and genital area so I was told by the doctor that it would take around 2 months to clear. So the first day of using this cream I didn't have any side effects. After the second application it felt a little uncomfortable. And after my third I've come out with one blister on my clitoris and sores around my genital area. It's the second week of using Aldara and I've decided to take a few days off as I don't want to irritate the skin even more. However, having said that, I can already see a difference in my warts, they are getting smaller and the ones around my anus are getting dry and flatter. There's still some time before my warts completely go but I'm not giving up. If your in pain even a little bit, don't use the cream as it will only make the area worse. Instead take a break from the cream and allow your skin to heal before using it again. My doctor said even if you take a week off the cream will still work as it boosts your immune system. But everyone is different! You may not experience any symptoms, and other will. And if your worried about anything whilst using the cream then go see your doctor :) I'll give you an update soon after two weeks as I'm taking a few days off the cream F 23 3 days

4  GW Headache, flu like symptoms, really bad sores down there that scabbed and hurt every time I went the toilet I took this for 4 weeks until the pain got unbearable, I was unable to wee, I had blisters on both sides of my vulva which then filled with puss, I decided to take 3 weeks off to let my body fully heal - not sure if this was a good thing or not but I have just completed week 6, the scabs have returned but the trick is to put a minute amount on the cream and cover the rest of the area with vaseline - it works wonders and I think the scabs arent that bad the second time around because of this. I only had two warts however I got really paranoid about these so started the cream. Going in to week 7 they seem to have scabbed over and are healing. The pain that come with this is severe I'm not going to lie BUT I would much rather cope with this pain for 16 weeks than cope with the mental trauma that genital warts bring. For those starting out with this cream. Use a tiny amount on the wart, and be prepared for pain. F 30 6 weeks

5  GW Ok so i was so worried about using this(imiquiod) because of all the bad reviews! Like sh!t scared. But i'm glad i did, worked amazingly! I only had one wart, and i had cryotherapy that did absolutely nothing. The dr prescribed the imiquiod and really didn't think i'd use it, because i'd read so many bad stories. Anyway i got very desperate as the freezing hadn't worked and warticon was out of stock. I only used the tiniest bit, literally the size of a water droplet, rubbed it into the skin, fanned it abit so it would dry and put aqeous cream on the surrounding areas. One box has three satchets(lasts three days) after one use i would throw the satchet away and use a new satchet each time. Instructed by my dr. I had no side effects at all, no burning, no aches, no nothing. Just a little tingle for the first 5 mins after i put it on. I used it once every other day, 4 times in total and its totally cleared up. I wanted to post this for anyone else who has gw and lost hope of anything working. Please give this a try but only use the tiniest bit( like a drop of water), rub in, let dry, put aqueous cream on surrounding areas as a protection barrier. Good luck x Would def recommend, but please read instructions and follow WORD FOR WORD F 32 4 days

4  BCC No noticeable side affects as yet though I still have 7 more applications remaining. My treatment area is on the side of my face approx 3 sq cm. A scab formed after about 10 days. I am much younger than many of the uses on this site. Therefore I am curious if it due to my age/strength of my immune system. Have been applying 5 nights on, two nights off. Was surprised after 10 days that a secondary smaller lesion formed on the edge of my treatment area (my cheek). Resultantly I slightly increased the area of application (approx. 3 sq cm). Am very much looking forward to the treatments conclusion as a consequence of reading the reviews here. It definitely has increased my anxiety when going to sleep. Due to the scab forming on my face I have been very careful to keep the area clean with a gentle face wash. M 38 18 days

4  GW I had a patch of gw form on each side the area next to my vagina / bum, just adjacent to the very delicate skin. Spread very quickly so took action. I went in a bit hard and treated each night for a few days before settling to every other day. Ended up in agony by around day 10 with raw patches and swollen areas and raised red welts around the gws. Miserable couple of days where I had to wee while hosing in the shower as it was so sore. Coated in nappy cream, I just relaxed and got though this bit. Just had a mirror check on progress... all raised warts are gone and replaced with tiny healing red scabs! It also inflamed areas where there were no visible warts and these areas have now settled and look healthy. I can't believe it, what a relief! Just to mention, also hitting the vitamin B suppliments to boost immune system as well. Very painful last few days... my fault, I overdid it. In hindsight, the stuff works very well, trust the process and only apply sparingly to individual affected areas as advised. There's plenty in each sachet, so don't go crazy with the stuff!  1  BCC on side of nose next to eye I was prescribed the generic Iimiquimod cream 5% 5 days on and 2off. Day 1 was fine. Day 2 &3intense itching day 4&5 large sore crusty oozing and bleeding. Burning and itching, extreme fatigue. Driving 11 miles I had to stop and walk around because I could not stay awake. Took 2 days off as prescribed. Applied again the next day despite the pain. The next day I applied the tiniest amount and the burning was so intense it felt like it was burning a hole through the corner of my eye.Not literally. It was a nerve pain. Also extremely irritable and tired. I then did some extensive research online and realized I was using much more than I should have been. I stopped using it. The next am my eye was literally crusted shut. The sore is horrific. Neither my dr or pharmacist gave me any kind of instruction on using this drug. The pharmacist only cautioned me to use on the affected area only. I was given 24 single-use packets. Each packet contains 0.25g. So one would assume you are to use a whole packet. That is WAY TO MUCH. And once you use it on broken skin the drug gets into your blood stream. The manufacturer needs to put on the directions to use sparingly and not to use on broken or bleeding skin. I feel my dr and pharmacist and manufacturers all let me down. I dont know if it could have worked or not. F 57 7 days

4   Used this for a biopsy proven superficial basal cell on my nose. Not much reaction for the first 3 weeks and my dermatologist had me up the dosage from 5x week to 7x week. That seemed to get things going. Mostly scabbing and crustiness, kind of gross looking. The only systemic effects is week 4 I developed a UTI, but my internist did not feel it was related to the Aldara. After reading all the reviews on the internet I was terrified of using this medication but desperately wanted to avoid surgery on my nose. It was a long six weeks but I did not have any horrible side effects and carried on with life as normal (other than a gross looking nose). The good news is my dermatologist biopsied the site after treatment and it was negative for basal cell, so the Aldara appeared to do its job. I would use it again on any area that I didn't want to have surgery scars (i.e. my face) but if I had a basal cell on my body I would just have it removed surgically for a much faster process. I have known several others who have used this medication and did not have any bad systemic reactions. F 67 6 weeks

2  Genital Warts No side effects I was reluctant to try this because of the horror stories I read, however it seemed to work for a lot of people very quickly. I’ve been using it for a month and had no reaction but also no results which is disheartening. (If anything more have popped up). My bfs cleared up in a week. I will finish the 16 week course as advise, however if by the 8th week there’s no improvement this cream is just more trouble than it’s worth. F 21 4 weeks

1  Gw I applied Aldara only once, taking care of putting it just on the warts. I did not have big cauliflower ones, just few individuals here & there in and outside of my vaginal opening. After the first night of applying, I could wash the stuff out in the shower, mild dryness and irrotation, bit swollen. The next day was supposed to be the second application but during the day itstarted to become unbearable to do anything - changing position, walking. Burning sensation and severe stinging nerve pain started. Decided to continue applying maybe after the effects are gone. Then, on the third day, even when I did not put any more of the s#it on my beloved genitals - the pain kept intensifying, so as the next day and the day after that. F 26 0 days

4  Molluscum contagiosum I took the medicine 3 times per week for 30 days for Molluscum Contagiosum bumps just above the crack on my buttocks. I had to quit for one week because my rectal area was sore, burning and itching. Most of the bumps are gone except one that is stubborn. I restarted applying the cream after a one week hiatus.  3  Basal Cell Carcinoma on face Currently taking 1x per day, 7 days a week. About on day 9. Previous use was no big deal....I even put it on additional parts of my face to just "see" if any BCC was hiding anywhere else. This time I should NOT have done that. For the first 3 days I applied it to my entire face, avoiding lips and eye areas. I feel like I have the flu, ache everywhere, tired, can't workout daily like usual, joints ache like they have carpel tunnel, I'm popping ibuprofen like candy, my vagina itches like crazy (nope, didn't apply any there) and I have a clear, non-smelling discharge, and the worst part...my lower lip has swollen severely and is covered with fever blisters/canker sores. I've reduced to applying only at target site now and hoping these symptoms will go away soon, as I'm trying to stick out the 3 weeks of treatment. This was to be applied on a recurring BCC site, but this time it isn't causing ANY redness on the BCC location, so I'm wondering if perhaps the BCC is actually gone s I've used Aldara or generic imiquimod roughly 5x now. I've never had any issues previously, aside from it attacking the BCC only (red, oozing, bleeding, etc). Not pretty, but livable to remove the BCC with minimal scarring compared to freezing/cutting.  1  GW Blisters, itching, scarring, ulceration, flaking and dryness on surrounding skin, yeast infections severe pain during urination. I had one wart on my labia which you could barely see, intact the nurse missed it during a routine checkup where I was cleared for all other STDs. It continued to grow and grow. I've had about 9 rounds of cryotherapy which seemed to make it spread, I now have over 20 medium-sized warts on the opening of my vagina and now a few on my anus. I've used Warticon which didn't work. I've been using aldara for 8 weeks and they are only spreading and getting bigger. I've bee dealing with this for almost 6 months, my boyfriend has split up with me and my confidence is at a all time low. It sucks even more since I got this from an abusive Ex. F 21 2 months
