LUPRON DEPOT-3  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to stop early puberty (precocious puberty) in children. It helps to delay sexual development (such as growth of the breasts/testicles) and the start of menstrual periods. It also helps slow down early bone growth to increase the likelihood of reaching normal adult height. Leuprolide works by decreasing the amount of sex hormones that a child's body makes (estrogen in girls, testosterone in boys).   FDA Approval Date: 1997-03-07 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

3  endometriosis Hot flashes, cold flashes, memory loss, sex drive better, "tired" due to hot flashes at night, emotionaly up and down, but i do feel more level headed then before...kinda weird! After 2 pelviscopy surgeries for my endometriosis, and finding out that i have another disease called endomytosis, the doctor recommended this procedure for 6 months... i wish i did a little more research on it BEFORE i decided to go through hell for 6 months. I would have to say the only major problems were my hot flashes and memory loss. I noticed that after my 2nd shot i lost alot of weight almost too much if there is such a thing. But by the 4th shot and no really change in my work out pattern i notice the weight came back on but only in my mid section, i know this might not make sense but my pain started to come back again as well. I did notice the depression was a on going battle, up and down...etc. Listen people ask me all the time would i recommend it...and the answer would be ....i don't know, it is such a complicating shot, some people have the results THEY hoped for and others don't. All i know is that physically i feel as if i am poisoning my body, i look at photos of me a M 6 months

5  Endometriosis Bleeding, temperature changes I have had only great results from the 3 month Lupron shot I received. I did get a lengthy 2 week period of bleeding, and then the extra pain about 3 weeks after the shot was administered, but since then feel better than ever. My mood has actually improved. I used to be hot all the time, and now am more on the cold side and feel regulated. I am taking add-back therapy so that may be a helper. I am due for my second 3 monh shot at the end of the month, and am hoping that the results stay the same! F 3

3  Exreamly bad Endo. Exream hot flashes, memory loss, swollen hands and feet, weight gain ( over 40 pounds ),extream headakes, crying for no reason, got attached to people, really bad back pain, sleeping all the time, uncontrolable shaking, some bleeding, hurt to walk up and down steps, feeling like bugs are crawling in your skin. I am 15 years old and i have had endo. since i was 13. All the doctors i went to told me i was crazy that i was to young to have endo. i went thru 3 different doctors, and by then i was out of school and couldnt move it hurt me so bad. I had lapo. done and they found out that i had so much of it on my blader and overies that they couldnt burn it off so i got put on Lupron. I wont say it is my favorite thing, but it is helping me alot. After i got the 1st shot it was hard to deal with. I just had my 2nd shot done 2 weeks ago i am still having alot of pain. The doctors just want the endo. to get off of my blader then if i still hurt they want to do a hysterectomy. F 15 6 months

3  Endometriosis Major hot flashes, weight gain (40 pounds), extreme mood swings, trouble sleeping Though i had a very hard time with the drug, and the side effects, especially going through a simulated menopause at 16, i have to say it has helped to decrease my daily pain and helped me be able to re-enroll in school. I will never take this drug again though if i can help it. F 16 5 months

3  Endometriosis Constant backache, occasional pelvic pain and intense pressure, chills(not really chills, but always extreamly cold), hot flashes at least once an hour, weird cravings(especially at night), weird dreams, increased libido(which is the oppisite of most people on the drug),depression/INTENSE mood swings, and bad headaches I had always had painful periods, but around age 17 i started getting cramps and backaches through my entire period. After a foot surgery in october 2010( dont know if its related) i started bleeding, even though im on the pill, and i bled for 4 months. I had a laprascopy in December 2010 and was diagnosed with moderate endometriosis. But after my surgery i could barly move for weeks, i was in so much pain, i had a pelvic infection and started intense antibiotics. After finishing them i was still bleeding, not sleeping, and in a ton of pain. I usually took something to knock me out so i wouldnt have to deal with the pain. Then i got the Lupron shot. at first it worked, the bleeding and cramping stopped the first month. But this is my second month and i feel out of control. The hotflashes, cravings, dreams, headaches, and backaches are killing me. I have to finish my dosage though, so im hoping to not have to do this again. Its hell :( F 18 6 months

3  Endometriosis I've taken the time to read over everyone else's experiences with this drug. You must understand going on this drug is by choice and for many different reasons. Many people have different side effects but here were mine; Headaches, Weight gain(35 pounds to date), Tiredness, Night sweats, Hot Flashes, Cold sweats, The worst leg pain I've ever experienced, loss of vision to an extent, feeling weak, overall feeling like crap. <<< I'm sure some will read these and wonder why I put myself through this, Though the side effects suck pain wise I feel much better. I first got sick when I was 15. I've had 4 surgeries to date since then. Doctor One:First one at the age of 15 to remove polyps of the uturis and a D/C. No endo found at that point. Then tried many oral birth controls ended up at the first depo P. shot. Doctor Two: Second operation at the age of 17: I remember this quite well due to it was the week of xmas, Found adhesions and cysts. No endo found at this time. Once again this second doctor said they had done what they could and put me back on b/c(birth-control) During these three years I had to drop out of public school and go to an online school, I had my period at least 3 weeks out of a month. Pain was not tolerable. Finally at age 18 I went to see a specialist for endo in Hershey Pa. Doctor 3: First thing she said is I know you have endo we need to go to the operating table as soon as possible. By July 2010 I was on the table being cut open again. For the third time with the third doctor I had a D/C, lap scope, and four new incisions. When I was brought to I knew something wasn't right. Doctors all around me and my mom crying. They had finally found endo after my battle with doctors and pain for 4 years. What was suppose to be an hour operation turned into a 5 hour operation! The endo had moved onto my lungs, appendix, bowels, bladder, ovaries, uturis, ect. At my two week check up I was told how bad my endo was, I was then told I needed to go on the lupron depot right away if I wanted any chance at one having kids and two F 19 7 months

1  Endometriosis hot flashes, fatigue, mood swings, stomach pains, diharria, My expereince of the Shots were horriable. My doc put me on them for 6 months for "Endometriosis". During those 6 months I have never felt soo horriable in my life. I was basically on bed rest the whole entire time. I barley got to work during the week couldnt do anything at all during the weekends. I was gettind depressed. My stomach pains and diharria and mood swings were effecting me extremely bad. After the horriable 6 months i got my period 2 months later and my cramps have been WORSE after the treatment then they were before. Since the shots my periods have been heavier and the pain is soo severe that i have ended up in the ER due to the pain. ITs horriable and i would never do it again it was a waste of $6000.00 F 20 6 months

4  endometriosis, bleeding, cysts Hot flashes, pain in pelvis worse for first 3 months, headaches, extream cold, mood swings, weight lose, incresed labido I was on lupron for six months and was taken off for 3. I was off for only 1 month when I started getting my ovarian cysts back. They had to go in and do emergency surgery to remove a 10cm by10cm cyst from my right ovary when they went in they also found extreme endometriosis. My doctor told me that I had to go back on lupron for another 6 moths then on to birth control. Before I was on it I had extreme pain and bleeding, after 3 months all my symptoms were gone. I had some side affects that were opposite of what most women experience. I was happy to go back on it again but also worried because i am coming up to the year mark here in a while and once that happens I have to come off it. I am not looking forward to that. I dont wanna go back to the pain and the bleeding. F 21 7 months

1  endometriosis extreme weight gain 40 lbs., headaches, mood swings, hot flashes, loss of sex drive, memory loss, fatigue, insomnia, vaginal dryness, vision problems I would not recommend that anyone take this medication. My endo was only a stage 2. I would much rather deal with the pain than all the side effects. I have now been off the shot for three years and am still experiencing these side effects. My weight gain is the worst part to me. It has led me to have decreased self-confidence. I did not really begin to realize the weight gain until it was too late. I feel this medicine was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I feel that my doctor could have given me a better option since my case was not severe. F 21 6 months

5  Endometriosis and ovarian cysts After I was diagnosed with level 4 endometriosis, my pain was so bad I could barley get out of bed most days I would just lay there and cry from the pain, I had a laparoscopy to remove lesions, I was told it would help me be pain free for years, 8 weeks after my first surgery my pain was back and worse then ever, my doctor recommended hysterectomy and an oophorectomy (since I already had children and was unable to have anymore anyway) I was pain free for awhile after my surgery and when my pain came back I wasn't sure if I was imagining the pain or if I could still really have endometriosis... I had another surgery and still did that's when my doctor recommended me on this shot since it won't seem to go away. I was fairly skinny 105 lbs and in great shape, after I took this shot I started packing on the pounds, was extremely moody, I had terrible hot flashes, night sweats so bad I would have to shower in the middle of the night, and I was either starving or could go days without eating. When I started my second round of lupron after another surgery my symptoms were a 100 times worse I started getting really bad insomnia and nightmares I maybe slept between 1 & 3 hours a night. This is the last time I will take this shot I would rather live with the debilitating pain then have the side effects from this shot. F 22 9 times

1  Endometriosis, fertility Hot flashes, heavy periods (when I shouldn't have them), migraines, bad cramping, IBS, stomach bloating, weight gain, insomnia, lack of energy, dizzy, nauseous, shaky, off vaginal smell, lack of sex drive I was put on this after my laproscopy surgery to help my chances of future fertility and also help keep it from growing back as quickly. My gut told me not to get it aND I did anyway in fear of what would happen if I didnt. I am supposed to get a second 3 month dose this month and I cancelled it. Horrible thing to go thru after expecting to be pain free for a while. F 23 3 months

1  Endometriosis Pain, and crazy mood swings. I had the 1 month injection given to me 2 days ago due to supposed endometriosis, aka pain that wad only getting worse, periods getting heavier and more painful, and experiencing painful intercourse for nearly a year. I just had my 2nd child 3 months ago, was on the pill, which only made my mood and periods worse. Finally an ob recommended I try this instead of "different positions and more lube and throw some Mrotin in the mix for the pain." first of all, due to a stomach condition I can't even take motrin and right now I am in so much pain, and I have been alternating between pure rage and complete hopelessness...not to mention yesterday I had the first migraine I've had in years, and fluid retention...and yet they won't do another surgery. I've already had one ovary removed due to a lot of good sized cysts, and have 2 beautiful children(and 2 miscarriages), and am so Done with dealing with this...I am feeling very lied to by the ob and would never wish this hell on anyone except maybe a serial killer or something. Please tell me it gets better or at least some advise on what to do... F 23 3 days

1  Endometreosis Hot Flashes, mood swings, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, migranes, vision changes, decreased sex drive, nausea, vomiting, light-headedness, I have only been on this medication for just over 2 months, first month went fine no problems besides the hot flashes... if those were the only side effects i could deal with it. Directly following the second shot however, the side effects got extreamly worse. I foolishly didnt do any research before accepting this shot, I recomend that anyone being told that they should go on this, DO RESEARCH! Endometreosis is a very common diagnosis among women, almost 60% of women. I dont believe this drug has helped me at all. I believe it has made things worse. I have missed several day's of work because i couldnt function at all. The abdominal pain, nausea, hot flashes, dizzy spells, fainting, back aches, trouble sleeping...It felt like i had the flu for a month straight. ITS REDICULAS! i think all health care providers should definatly have an in depth conversation about the side effects with their patients they plan on giving this shot to. If the patient dosent mind having all these side effects on top of the endo-pain... go right ahead.. but personally I will never take this shot again! It hasnt helped, just made everything worse!  1  Endometriosis Insane hot flashes, mood swings (aka crying for no reason every day) I took Lupron as a last resort after, even after surgery did not provide relief, for severe endometriosis pain. I took it for 6mo. six years ago without the progesterone supplements. Although my back pain subsided during the 6 mo. my other side effects were just as bad and the pain returned as soon as I stopped the Lupron. One important thing to note is that the use of Lupron has been tied to the development of other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. My cousin and I used Lupron for endo ~6 years ago and now we have both been diagnosed with RA. We are only in our early 20's and have debilitating joint pain and she has had more health complications. I would not recomend Lupron to anyone. Natural hormone replacement has been the most effective for my endo., and 2 laporoscopies. F 24 6 months

4  Endometriosis and Ovarian Cysts MOOD SWINGS, Some abdominal pain once in awhile, Hot flashes, Tiredness, Hunger cravings, Night sweats The mood swings are the worst. I do not reccomend trying to be in a relationship if he isn't ready for to deal with this cause I have been up and down with my emotions such as crying for no reason and getting irritated at the smallest of things. I sleep with my window open every night (and it's snowing outside) because i'll wake up dying of heat. All I want to do is lay in bed and eat food. I have struggled with being tired throughout the years but this is much worse. I go to work and put my head on my desk and fight to stay awake some days. I've gained about 10 lbs since I started the injection. And that is without changing my diet. Besides all the cons I would not stop taking it. I went from curled up in bed in so much pain to being able to work out for 45 minutes and walk up stairs without crying. So far the injection has been wonderful to help with the pain. I used to have cysts that would burst often and since I started the injection I have had none and have not felt any pain from them. If you can put up with the cons than you will feel much better. A few days ago I received my second injection. My doctor is having me do one more at the end of this month and than in 3 months i'll have one more and will be done. F 25 1 months
