LIPITOR  (ATORVASTATIN CALCIUM):  Atorvastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs known as "statins." It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks. In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking. Consult your doctor for more details.   FDA Approval Date: 2000-04-07 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  High cholesterol High sugar, HBP, anxiety, skin lesions, COPD, torn rotator cuff, heartburn, brain-Fog, did I say Brain-Fog!, aggression, sore muscles/nerves, depression, enlarged prostate, shortness of breath, inability to sleep, softening of nails, tiredness, I could go on and on! Cold turkey Lipitor 2 weeks ago; skin is clearing, muscles pain relief, brain-Fog is ever so very slowly lifting. Lipitor: Pure Poison!! Ive taken rather good care of myself by exercising, eating well, keep ideal weight. Docs never mentioned Lipitor side effects, instead they prescribed more poisons for each and every symptom caused by Lipitor. Scary to ponder the sheer number of people using Lipitor while operating heavy equipment, including autos! M 64 25 years

5  control cholestoral None that I can directly attribute to it. It is possible some minor pains and other occasional feelings like numbness are related, but they are occasional and in NO way can be linked based on my personal knowledge. I am almost 70 now...who knows what may be causing little things here and there? My cholesterol is under control (BUT I can't even be sure this is due to meds..) and I am pretty healthy overall. I have been an active exerciser for 30 years. M 20 years

4  coronary artery disease I've been taking statins for 20 years and haven't noticed any side effects. I've been taking 80mg of lipitor. In the last few months, after losing 20 pounds that I needed to lose my cholesterol went from 134 to 122. However, I also hurt my quadriceps on my elliptical machine and after 6 weeks it still hurts enough to keep me from walking. I stopped taking lipitor in case that had something to do with it. I'm also in physical therapy. I have no idea whether its the statins or the weight loss or just an injury. M 68 20 years

1  High cholesterol/triglycerides Worst drug on the market. I am a type 2 diabetic (hereditary) and have hypothyroidism (over 20 years) It's taken me over 20 years of prescribed Lipitor, one per day, to finally have PROOF that it doesn't work, severely affects your liver, AND does cause inflammation plus joint/muscle pain. I have hereditary high cholesterol, and for the past 20 plus years have been on Lipitor daily yet my cholesterol never got better and my triglycerides were always extremely high. SO MUCH that I've had 3 liver biopsies and no diagnosis other than fatty liver/NASH. Also, as many others here, complained of severe muscle/joint pain that NO doctor ever acknowledged yet I'm sure has caused damage to my now arthritic hands/shoulder/legs. THANKS to my newest and only cardiologist, after my 2 younger brothers died of heart failure, ran a bunch of tests, all good thanks, but my high cholesterol and high triglycerides still not better. FINALLY got off the LIPITOR, and now on CRESTOR which has miraculously in 2 years lowered my cholesterol to NORMAL ranges, and my TRIGLYCERIDES less than one third of the levels I'd had for 20 years. So many specialists and years of toxic Lipitor!! I'm so mad!!! But I am grateful to finally be feeling better, and having some amazing lower numbers in cholesterol/triglycerides! There is HOPE, keep asking questions and KEEP looking for alternatives!!! SHAME on the FDA for approving so many toxic drugs. SHOUT OUT and let BIG PHARMA know we, the patients, will NOT keep supporting their greediness!!! DO NOT take this drug!! It does NOT lower cholesterol or triglycerides. This drug causes more lifelong side effects than its worth!! F 58 20 years

1  very high cholesterol I used to just think i was getting old. But it came to the point i could hardly stand without severe pain in upper back, neck and arms. Had an Mri of neck and shoulder. Some bursitis in shoulder but should not cause this kind of pain. Could not hardly use my arms and hands and my job was on a computer all day. Left the job and thought it would get better. Well it did not. Stopped the Lipitor 5 days ago and the pain is subsiding. If at all possible just eat correctly. I was diagnosed at the age of 30 with Cholesterol at almost 400. Scared to death not to take it. But, i can't live with it either. At a loss and frightened as i do have some blockages we were trying to reverse with the high dose of Lipitor. :( F 54 20 years

5  overall high cholesterol none I was on Pravachol for about 10 years without any significant reduction in my total cholesterol. Was switched to Lipitor 40mg initially with fair results and then to 80mg with excellent results. My present total cholesterol is 160, HDL, LDL and ratios are all acceptable. Have noticed no side effects. My only complaint with the drug is the cost and the fact that Pzier has not allowed the generic to be manufactured in the USA until 2012 and yet it is available this year in the UK as a generic.  3  cholestrol The lipitor works for lowering cholestrol levels. However, I wonder if there is a corolation between lipitor (statins) and restless legs syndrome (rls). I've talked with a couple others that have rls and they are on lipitor too. Does anyone taking lipitor experience rls? I'll check back here for the results. M 57 15 years

2  cholesterol and triglycerides Stomach distress, gum trouble, muscle ache, eye trouble. I took the 10 milligram pills for almost fifteen years, experiencing stomach pains, abdominal bloating and other symptoms that I chalked off to a bad stomach. I had aches and stiffness in my hips and knees. When my doctor upped my dose to 40 mg, to treat aggressively a spike in my blood sugar, in three weeks I developed such severe stomach pain that I literally couldn't walk more than half a block without doubling over in agony. Unbelievable pain. Also, I was constipated, and I never am constipated. When I stopped takin it, the pains went away, including body aches and stiffness I had chalked up to aging. M 58 15 years
