I've struggled with depression for 4 years now and this medication made it worse. I wish my doctor would have told me about what I would experience. Had MRI done and no tumor was found, but my levels stayed elevated with anxiety symptoms and weight gain. Referred to Endocrinologist who put me on a full pill twice a week. 2 months in I was feeling a little better, more optimistic but serious chest pains would come frequently that felt close to a heart attack. Went down to half a pill 2x a week, started to feel very distant and irritable constantly. Yelling frequently, tired all the time and very depressed. My doctor told me it should help my very low libido but if anything it is so much worse than prior to starting Cab, I don't even want my bf near me I get repulsed. I cannot help how I feel I save what good that I do have left in me for my children because they deserve a good mother meds or not. This medicine has made my life a living hell, I stop taking it and I begin noticing chin hairs growing like crazy which ingrow and scar all over my chin. I also notice a heavier body odor than before, hair loss like crazy and anger than I can't seem to shake. I am manic constantly cleaning and feel like I catch myself staring off constantly in worry, or sadness. This sh*t feels like poison and I feel like I shouldn't be on it any longer but my doctor wants me to go another month. I've been on and off this drug for 18 years and it has been nothing short of a nightmare every time a new specialist puts me back on it. My prolactin levels have been as high as 90,000 and sit average at about 30,000. I'm mostly shocked that there hasn't been any other drug to treat this issue besides dostinex. If you can avoid it, don't take it. I am now just weighing up what is worth more to me - my joy and mental health or being on this seemingly never ending dostinex treatment that has just about ruined my life. It has been so frustrating when sharing my experience and side effects of this drug with doctors and they just look you in the face like you're doing crazy. Most have little to no empathy, and after 18 years of this my optimism is wearing thin. I didnt have a tumor. I stayed on this for 16 years straight. The only side effects I noticed for many years was headaches and high anxiety. I always had a high sex drive so I didnt notice any change with that. The last 4 years I was on this medication it changed my personality and behavior. It almost ruined my life and my marriage. No one warned me of this possibly so I wasn't watching for it. I never was told to see an endocrinologist. My sex drive went through the roof, I was addicted to porn, had an affair and strarted spending a lot of money. It was like having no feeling toward the things I was doing. Like I wasnt doing anything wrong. No morals, no consequences. I really wasnt attracted to anyone else but my husband but still needed to feed this need for constant excitement. It was like a live wire all the time. But no matter what I did nothing would stop it or fix it.. until I stopped the medication. Ive been off this medication for 51/2 years. It took a year for me to feel like even getting out of bed. And even though I feel better I still dont feel like me. No feeling of joy or excitement at all now even though I am extremely happy in my life. DOSTINEX (CABERGOLINE): This medication is used to treat high levels of prolactin hormone in your body. High levels of prolactin in women can cause symptoms such as unwanted breast milk and missed periods and can cause difficulty becoming pregnant. High levels of prolactin in men can cause symptoms such as enlarged breasts and decreased sexual ability/desire.
