| 1 | Osteoporosis (in wrist) | I was given Fosemax because I was on Prednisone for a couple of years. I thought it was the right thing to do to stop further osteoporosis. After 28 months I had a severe episode of Vertigo, was hospitalized and took six weeks to get my balance back so I could walk without a cane and it left me with significant hearing loss and constant ringing in my left ear. In addition I have pain under my left breast on my ribcage. I have severe muscle pain on my right arm. I have leg cramps some nights, I am always nauseous and fatigued. | I stopped the Fosemax against my doctors wishes. I began to feel that she didn't care about my side effects and discomfort, or that the Fosemax was making me much worse than I was. Before starting Fosemax I was healthy and active. I teach 5 Tap dance classes a week and I know the bones in my legs and feet are strong. If I wasn't so tired I could also do the Silversmithing that always kept my wrists strong. Instead, this drug was threatening to take away all I had. I wish I'd looked into this long ago. Now I don't know how long it will take to recover from these side effects, if recovery is possible. Thought it was from shoes. Pain subsided after 10 days. Began having constipation and had to take laxative. Never had this problem before. Third week developed severe pain and swelling in left hand. Arthritis is in my family, so thought I might be developing that. Still having constipation issues. Something made me put these pieces together and when I checked the possible side effects on the insert for the Fosamax wasn't too surprised to see both constipation and bone/joint pain listed. I took my fifth dose of this on 4/9. Since then I have started having similar intense pain on top of left shoulder bone. This is such crazy intense pain. I'm hoping it will go away and leave no lingering effects. I highly recommend not starting thus drug. I am usually very active. Horses care. Home and pets, etc., No more. Never had a broken bone I didn't earn. I hope these medication s help after 2years.Its slow going but I will give it a try.Also I crave milk? Have never been that way before? Dr said it is due to low calcium in my bones.I have to let the Dr know how I feel in a month. I may have to quit fosamax? That's when I called my doctor and decided to stop taking it. The Dr. was adamant it wasn't the Fosamax, but I am sure it is. | This drug is basically poison in your body. It was originally used in industrial products. I will take my Vitamin D and Calcium, but no more of this poison. I felt pressure from my Dr. I will also never get the Prolia or Reclast shot/infusion. A woman with whom I work was bedridden in pain for months after the Reclast, and couldn't lift her arms for three weeks. By late evening began having pain in upper chest and right shoulder, as well as severe diarrhea. By the next morning the pain was worse in my shoulders and back, still had diarrhea, as well as a massive headache. The rest of my bones and joints ached as well. | My guess would be that a medication that is supposed to work within the skeletal system to help strengthen bones may cause some sort of effect on the bones themselves, but the fact that it's so painful is probably not worth it. I've had several fractures over the last 10 years or so (ribs, toe, shattered wrist, stress fractures in feet), and diagnosed with osteopenia. My dr. is concerned about possible spinal fractures so Fosamax was prescribed after my insurance co. refused to pay for Boniva.
