| 3 | For Spine | I have taken Fosamx for almost a year once a week. I have just started have a soreness when I swallow and also the bottoms of my feet really hurt. My dr. is concerned about possible spinal fractures so Fosamax was prescribed after my insurance co. refused to pay for Boniva. I have not had any of these symptoms prior to taking fosomax, except for the back pain, which I last had a few years ago. I am 54 and used to be healthy. It took me three months to suspect fosamax as the cause of my ailments. My gp just took me off the drug, so we can see if the symptoms clear out. It is too bad, doctors were not suspecting anything and I had to figure it out myself. I refused to take the Fosamax, Boniva, or Actonil and decided to take a good grade food-based calcium that I get at a health food store instead. It is calcium from food, so digests easily. My bone scan recently showed "significantly improved" and I now have NO osteoporosis, and only one area has osteopenia! Take CALCIUM! One friend was a runner, did weight lifting, ate properly, etc., the picture of health. She started taking Fosamax and got where she could not get out of bed, had muscle pain, and started deteriorating. It was Fosamax that did this to her. Finally, she got off of it, but the damage is irreversible. She is never pain free now. Before Fosamax she had no pain. | My other friend Londa was taking Fosamax, developed acid reflux disease, esophagus problems, and could not move her neck. Then went about my daily activities which included a long walk in the park. No issues. I couldn't sleep and began to notice PAIN throughout every bone in my body! Had slight diarrhea on first bowel movement, which continued throughout the day. Hurt all over, which was depressing as my doctor suggested this Rx was going to be a permanent fixture in my life! When I was 19 years old the doctors found sever osteoporosis. My Bone density was at -2.51. For years my doctors tested me for every strange diease and tried several drugs to increase my bone density. Nothing worked. After just two year on Fosamax weekly my bones went from -2.51 to -1.9. I am due for another yearly bone density scan in a month and I can't wait. There is a good change that by now my osteoprosis is gone. FOSAMAX (ALENDRONATE SODIUM): Alendronate is used to prevent and treat certain types of bone loss (osteoporosis) in adults. Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases as you age, after menopause, or if you are taking corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for a long time. This medication works by slowing bone loss. This effect helps maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). Alendronate belongs to a class of drugs called bisphosphonates.
