I went to the emergency room 4 times thinking the worst. I would ask my neurologist if these were side effects from Topamax and was told no, there must be something else wrong. They were testing me for MS and looking for blood clots in the brain. I finally got an appointment at Boston MA General and traveled. My first appointment he told me to get off the drug, a lot of this could be a side effect. Within 4 weeks of being completely off Topamax most have gone away. I am still left with deteriorated muscle in my neck and left side, nerve pulses through the body, and muscle pain. It has been 8 months and I fear this will never go away. I receive acupuncture and massage therapy once a week with little relief. I also gained back all the weight I lost pulse an extra 15 that will not come off no matter what I do. This drug should be advertised on TV with every side effect possible so people can make their own decision. I gradually became more hostile and personally aggressive (sometimes physically but not violent), having temper tantrums, getting annoyed or pissed about every little thing, my patience went way down, anger would spike up unexpectedly. It has had negative effects on my personal relationships and at work. I am weaning down slowly to go off of topamax but the side effects are magnified as I taper. I experienced a horrifying fit of rage so bad my boyfriend threatened to call the police, I slammed a door so hard it broke things in his kitchen, I threatened suicide. He broke up with me because of it. Never have I acted this way prior to taking, and weaning from, this med. So while this medication worked for taking away my migraines, it has taken away much of my life. I never would have gone on it had I known.
