After a couple of weeks, that subsided and the weight gain, generalized swelling, joint and muscle aches kicked in. I honestly barely recognized my own face! I had so much facial swelling that even my husband commented that I “looked different”. I had absolutely no improvement for depression and started feeling even more irritable and “rage” like. I ended up gaining around 50 lbs (about a 50% increase in my body weight); I tried exercise and dieting with no change. I decided to come off after over a year of being on it, and had difficulty tapering off the medication as I slept so heavily on it that I struggled to fall sleep without it. (I have never struggled with insomnia previously.) Other withdrawal symptoms included digestive issues, brain zaps, and strange feeling overall. Have lost over 30 lbs since stopping this medication with no change to diet or exercise. Overall, it did help me get over my appetite issues and a low spot in my depression when combined with another medication (atomoxetine); however, be wary of the advertised weight gain as it is more significant than I was told to expect, and the withdrawal symptoms are no joke.
