ALEVE  (NAPROXEN SODIUM):  Naproxen is used to relieve pain from various conditions. It also reduces pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis, bursitis, and gout attacks. This medication is known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking your body's production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation. If you are treating a chronic condition such as arthritis, ask your doctor about non-drug treatments and/or using other medications to treat your pain. See also Warning section. Some brands of sustained-release naproxen take longer to be absorbed and are not recommended for pain that needs quick relief (such as during a gout attack). Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about your particular brand.   FDA Approval Date: 1994-01-11 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  pain in the leg allergic reaction----itchy hands, arms and eyes. I'll have to stand the pain before I take aleve again. took Aleve several days ago, and experienced the itchy feeling but didn't associate it with Aleve. So today took two capsuls on a full stomach and two hours later, my hands, arms and eyes were driving me crazy, itching, itching fingeers swollen. NO MORE ALEVE F 78

5  Usually headaches or joint pain I've never had a problem with Aleve as many people here have. It's the only thing that works for me and fast.I am so totally suprised this causes others so many problems but knowing how i am with other drugs and thier horrible side effects i can understand it fully. For me this works very well and it's the only pain reliever i take F 49

5  minor aches, headaches, etc. The past 3 times I have taken it, I have broken out in unbearable hives. Itching and burning, redness and swelling begins at the ears and scalp and travels from there....Just pinpointed the cause today (as I'm scratching!). I gave Aleve a high rating because it has worked better than Tylenol or Advil for me, for years. I wish that this allergy had not developed. F 41

5  neck tension About 20 minutes after popping two Aleve,I experienced itching from my eyelids to my feet, it was so unbearable I was scratching like a dog with fleas, and I could not control myself…it seemed as though I was being bit by billions of invisible skin mites. I jumped into a shower hoping to rinse away whatever was ailing me and while the water seems to sooth the symptoms; I soon noticed my skin was developing puffy patches that were red, irritated and hot to the touch; it actually appeared as if I was suffering from severe sunburn. I thought I might have had the water in the shower on too hot, so I rinsed from head to toe with cool water, but the hive like rash crept upward soon covering my entire body... no long after I began feeling unsteady and I noticed I was shaking so I struggled to get dressed, thinking I might be needing to go out and about in search of some help. The itching was so intense I could not function… frustrated and struggling against the urge to itch, I so I decided to sit this one out alone… Alone I sat at the computer and thought maybe I should try to figure out what this is… I tapped a few key words into my computer and it took less than two minutes to make the connection, so here I am…. it's been over two hours since these symptoms started; my extremities still burn a bit, my tongue slightly enlarged and my eyes still itch but my skin has returned to it's normal color and I didn’t loose my sense of humor. I must say I still think this medication is great! When I packed for my year long adventure, Aleve was a must take with me item… With several more months to go before I will return to civilization, I am holding on this medication! I don’t take it often but when I do it always works… today was the first time I ever took two pills~ I guess too much of a good thing is never good …. it seems to work better in small doses. F 38

5  Arthritus None I'm a medical corrier, and without Aleve, I can't walk. I take 2 in the morning, and 2 at mid day. Without it, the pain in my knees, and ankles would be so unbearable. M 55

5  headache, back pain None except euphoria. It is a very cheap HIGH for me! Been using since a nurse got them for me in the early 1990's before over the counter. Swear by Aleve! M 72

5  Knee pain After two month of knee pain I went to the doctor. He thought I had torn meniscus but the MRI showed nothing. He recommend I take two Aleve in the morning and two at night for two weeks. After two days I am walking without a limp and my pain is greatly reduced! I am concerned about drug reactions after reading all the feedback but Aleve has been a miracle drug to me! I have read that you should not take it continuously so that is a concern to me. It has REALLY decreased the pain. F 57

4  tendonitis in the shoulders No side effects for me. I have had bouts of tendonitis in my shoulders over the years and found that Aleve is the only drug that works. My recent bout was too strong for the Aleve, so my doctor gave me Ultram, but it didn't work as well as the Aleve, so I am back on it. M 56

4  Menstrual Cramps It cured my camps! No side effects of the ones I'm reading. For some reason I am like immune to all other drugs such as tylenol, advil, etc. The stopped working for me and now Aleve is the strongest thing left that cures my camps. I know Aleve is a strong drug and taking up to 6+ tablets in a day is not good but it works tho! Cures all pain. F 19

3  stomach cramps 12 hours after taking lower face and lips swoll to the size of sausages. I did not make the connection as I took it one time before and my lips slightly swelled to the point where it was so small that I did not notice. However, it did take care of the pain. I will never take this med again. Naproxen sodium is definitely not my friend. Marketing/manufacturing really should consider not making this an OTC med. It can really harm you. F 25
