| 5 | toenail fungus | Heartburn, occasional. Mild stomach cramps. | This is my second time on this drug, the first was back in 2010 or so. It successfully cleared up my toes but the fungus came back eventually after I had neglected to treat it creeping back into my feet. Lamisil works but it is a serious medication. Your doctor usually should check your liver enzymes before and during the use of this drug. Keep in mind, and I don't think many people know this, but terbinafine is a pretty strong CYP2D6 inhibitor. This is an enzyme that actually breaks down many things, including a lot of drugs. It usually isn't a huge deal, but it can make a difference. A good example of one is caffeine. I have found that on Lamisil, one cup of coffee can sometimes end up feeling like 3. Also, amphetamine is affected by this, too. I have been on Adderall for ADHD for many, many years and found that my dose had to be lowered on this medication. Just something interesting that should be mentioned. My pinky nail was completely fungal and my big toe was very infected on the top sides. Immediately I saw great improvement and after 6 months on the medication all nails are clear except for the tiniest sliver on the very top of my big toenail and I'm optimistic this will grow out as the rest of it has. I experienced bloating, stomach upset/cramps, a poisoned feeling from excessive drinking unlike any hangover I've had previously, and I have been suffering from hair loss that I hope is due to the medicine. I have very fine but normally voluminous hair so the hair loss and the bloating have been the most distressing side effects for me. I also suspect some abdominal weight gain but again I hope this is just a side effect. | Despite the side effects I truly believe this medication was the best treatment option for me and I am thrilled with the results. So far out of 2 of the 3 bottles, I see pretty pink nails coming up even on my big toe which I was the most concerned about! My fungus is gone, i had no side effects other than loss of appetite and weight loss. well that was the main reason why i started to take lamisil anyway, im 5'4' and started off 107 pounds and got down to 97pounds thanks to lamisil. im not encouraging anyone to use it as a means of weight control but thats why im using it twice a year (with 3 month breaks in between). doesnt cause me any depression. it really increases my energy level so i hit the gym everyday. but everybody is different and reacts differently to drugs. i think its worth the side effects if you wanna be able to wear them open toe high heels on your date. let me know if you have any questions. All ten toes got 6 treatments, one week apart. 30 days later the doctor say let's try another 2 because he sees no improvement. So 30 days later (seeing no improvement) we have another consultation and he suggests the generic equivalent of Lamisil to be taken once a day for 7 days, then 30 days later repeat, then 30 days later repeat again. So I got a prescription for 21 pills @ 250mg. I was very leery of the medication, but taking it so infrequently seemed reasonable. I am happy to say that improvement is obvious; it looks like another 30 days or so and all my nails will be good. So is it the Lamisil or laser that works? Maybe in my case both were necessary. I have a couple weeks left to go and my nails are looking good considering I had this for fifteen years, but they are growing strong. I just threw out all of my old socks away, bought some sprays and Lamisil cream to be on the safe side.
