1  Allergies Itchy face/breaking out on face (pimples) I began taking fluticasone 5 days ago for allergies because I had a stuffy nose and scratchy throat. I was taking this medicine along with Allegra D. I had previously used a nasal spray for my allergies (Zetonna) and experienced no side effects and it worked well for my allergies. However upon the first day using fluticasone I felt a tingling on my lips/chin. After the 4th day I felt my face was itchy and irritated and I started breaking out on my cheeks. My chin has bumps and my cheeks feel itchy still. I am no longer taking this medicine starting today and hopefully the irritation will subside. F 25 5 days

3  Allergies Dr. prescribed one squirt in each nostril once daily for my 6 yr old with environmental allergies. She's been using it now for 7 years. For years she benefitted with relief from nasal swelling and itching, and no more runny noses. Then just last year, after 6 years of use, my daughter started having frequent nose bleeds. That lasted about 6 months, then subsided a little with the use of a nasal moisturizing gel. Then, in the last 3 months she's been getting these sores in her nose that won't heal. The sores inevitably become infected because they just NEVER go away, so we've been back and forth to the doctor for different solutions. Shes been on three courses of antibiotics and tried at least 4 different creams/gels. I wish we'd known to be more cautious with Flonase. It really shouldn't be used as a daily maintenance drug, indefinitely. Our Dr gave us no limitations for the length of use for this drug and brushed aside my questions and concerns, saying it was safe for long-term use. The studies that I could find online for "long-term use" were for no longer than 6 months! F 6 7 years

2  Nasal congestion Began waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning feeling short of breath. Got worse as I continued Flonase and began to occur during the day as well. Problem stopped when I stopped the medication. Problem recurred when I re-tried the Flonase a few weeks later; side effect again went away when I quit medication. It does clear up nasal congestion, but it wasn't worth the scary sensation of feeling out of breath. M 70 4 weeks

1  allergies My grandson has taken flonase for seasonal allergies. This spring when he started it again there was a remarkable difference in his behavior! He went from being chilled and laid back to bouncing off the walls. He was on the allergy medicine montelukast by mouth that did him this way in the past.I am stopping it and revisiting his doctor for another solution because he will go back to school next month and no way will they tolerate the type of behavior he is displaying. Before I blamed the medicine I modified his diet limiting the known foods that could be the culprit. i.e sugar caffeine etc... to no avail. M 5 1 years

1  Allergies, inflamed sinus & throat Blurry vision, numbness in arms and right leg, nausea, vertigo, difficulty breathing, muscle aches, fatigue, chills, night sweats, vivid nightmares I've taken Flonase twice in the past couple of years with my last experience landing me in the ER, here's my story: I was prescribed Flonase a few years ago (when I was 24) and used it to help relieve my allergies that were affecting breathing through my nose. After about 1 month of use (100mcg *50mcg in each nostril once a day) I experienced a very bad reaction and had a fever for 3 weeks, body sweats at random hours of the day and vivid nightmares. During that episode, I stopped cold turkey as I was bed ridden the entire time. Luckily I was in college at that time and was able to stay at home for those 3 weeks. I complained to the doctor that prescribed me the medication, but he didn't recognize any connection between flonase and my symptoms. Fast forward to less than a year later and I was diagnosed with Tuberculosis after a lengthy investigation by several doctors and specialists that were all wondering why I was coughing up blood. I'm not saying that Flonase directly caused Tuberculosis (although it has been noted in their findings online that only elderly patients *50+ developed Tuberculosis as a result of taking Flonase) but if I did have latent Tuberculosis, I wonder if Flonase lowered my immune system enough to cause the latent Tuberculosis to become active. Now a year after treatment for tuberculosis, I went to see another doctor to get a referral to go back to the TB clinic for them to test if I still had TB ( they will only see you again if you have a doc M 26 2 weeks

3  nasal polyps DAY 2 cant rate yet... I WANT TO ADD... PLEASE DONT READ ALL SCAREY COMMENTS AND GET WORRIED.. I was on oral steroids up to 60 mg for two years for asthma. Plus other drugs some of which had horrendous reviews.. I am a christian so I prayed a lot. Yes I had a few problems whilst taking them but I had to take them and now I am fully recovered. Now starting flonaise drops for nasal polyps . Reading these comments made me not want to take them but so did all the comments about any drug I am or have been on. I know all drugs have side effects. I have experinced side effects too at times.. But anyone starting these....Please realise. . We are all very different our bodies are different and most importantly many people are fine after taking these drugs. Everthing has some side effects which mostly you recover from absolutely fine. Its so important not to read negative comments until you have given the medicine a go and if there is a problem talk to a pharmacist or doctor. I am a nurse and very grateful the drugs I needed were available to me. F 43 2 days

1  ear infection Vision loss in one eye (cotton wool spot / ischemia of retina), floaters, severe nasal congestion, developed sleep apena from inability to breath at night from the severe nasal congestion. Never had problems with congestion before. Still suffering the effects of this drug. Doctor didn't believe this caused the cotton wool spot but after two eye angiograms they had no answers.  2   Ever since I drank too much one night on the meds, they have ceased to provide any real, lasting relief. Don't even know if I can blame that one night, but it started since then, along with the harsh side effects of headaches, increase in sinus pressure/mucus production, eye pains, a raise in anxiety/possible increase in blood pressure (it felt like my heart was racing a bit, but my pulse was generally fine) and cold chills randomly throughout the day (with a few nights of them plaguing me to the point I couldn't sleep). Mind this information: I have not seen a doctor about these negative reactions, because I've just moved, and feel I may have other underlying physical health issues, but to dismiss the other experiences here as cases of "sensitivity" and "uncertain mental health issues" is to deny acknowledgement of the many cases to the contrary.  3  allergies heart palpitations, bloody mucus, shaking hands, occasional cough The spray worked great for the nasal and sinus swelling. I took it in addition to the Claritin and Mucinex I take daily for my severe allergies. The heart palpitations are too worrisome to continue with current dosage. My hands shaking uncontrollably had me worried until I read others also had this as a side effect of flonase. It has only happened once so it wasn't a huge concern. The bloody mucus was not a big problem, either. The cough was not something I want to live with. I will take flonase only when my allergy symptoms become unbearable. F 45 10 days

2  Fluid in ear, Vertigo Flonase has been good & bad for me... Well, it all started when I had fluid in my right ear along with ear pain. Then the Vertigo set it and I couldn't function anymore. Which is where flonase came in.. I used it twice a day and all I have to say is that its VERY STRONG. My Vertigo went away however I don't know if it was time or the Flonase. I had anxiety as in I felt like my throat was closing and couldn't catch my breath. I had CHEST pain and Severe dry mouth, throat, & tongue. No matter how much I drank my mouth is still incredibly dry! I stopped at 7 days because it was killing me. This medication just shows that only take it if absolutely necessary. It's not worth the side effects! I hate this drug and 2 days after stopping it I'm still having occasional chest pain and anxiety shortness of breath, along with dry mouth! Although VERTIGO is now gone! I don't think i should of taken it so long 3 days would of been enough! F 26 7 days

1  Sinus congestion, vertigo Insomnia, extreme fatigue, lethargy, pain in eyes, watery eyes, anxiety, arrhythmia, pain in left arm and shoulder, bouts of depression, edginess, unpleasant dreams, muscle tension, possible increase in dizziness and vertigo I began taking Flonase for vertigo which my doctor thought could be caused by pressure on my inner ear due to a sinus condition. I noticed no discernible improvement in any of my symptoms but continued taking it anyway, hoping that they would improve over time. I did not make the connection between the side effects and the nasal spray right away, because I thought they were side effects of the vertigo I was treating. After the anxiety, eye pain, insomnia and fatigue reached a certain point, however, I began to suspect that something more was afoot. It has been almost two weeks now since I've been able to get more than 3 hours of sleep at night. My vertigo and dizziness has grown worse, especially increasing in the last week or so. When I woke fully after only an hour's sleep last night, completely exhausted yet unable to sleep, it dawned on me that Flonase is a steroid and I began to wonder if it was behind my problems. I got online this morning and looked into it only to find that not only can it cause all the symptoms I was suffering, but it could possibly even be making my vertigo worse than it was in the first place. I won't be taking it again. To summarize, not only did it not discernibly help improve my sinus congestion, but it appears to have increased the symptoms for which I was taking it in the first place, along with adding a slew of new problems to worry about. Use with caution and monitor for side effects. M 42 15 days

4  Allergy induced asthma Granted my year round allergies get worse as season changes, and Flonase helps with the need of ripping my nose off. It is effective, best used when you wake up. Side effects noticed, dry mouth need to make sure you keep hydrated and the take of metal all day from the minute I spray my nose. It's not as bad when I wake up, before my dosage. The metal taste is annoying, and can taste really strong but is ok if it helps my nose. F 34 1 months

Then after a little more then a year I experienced blurred vision, vertigo and lack of balance. I continued use for 6 months with these symptoms not realizing that flonase was the cause. I stopped and slowly my allergies returned and the side effects withdrew. It had taken a good 4 months of being off to be about 80% better as far dizziness, vertigo was instantly gone.  2  Stuffy nose/snoring Extreme emotional behavior, agression, excessive hunger Our 5 yr old's behavior became unbearable while on Flonase. She was only on 1 spray per nostril 1x/day, but I guess at such a young age (and small size - she is very petite) it was too much for her body. She has always been our more "challenging" child, but the behavior on this med. was severely escalated - she would hit and throw things, which she never did before. I realized as I was telling someone about her behavior that it had been occurring for the same amount of time she was on the drug. We stopped it and she has gone back to being more like herself. We're still dealing with her being stuffy and grinding her teeth at night, therefore not getting quality sleep, so things are not perfect, but I will not put her back on Flonase. It was like her little spirit had been replaced by one she had no control over and it made for an unhappy household. I'm not sure how much it helped anyway; it didn't completely solve the breathing issues. I had to do a lot of research to find anywhere this reaction was documented. Turns out it was studied...in the Netherlands...and found to be more prevalent among children. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22748370# We will be reporting our daughter's reaction to the FDA. http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/HowToReport/ucm053074.htm I would encourage anyone who has seen a similar reaction in their child to do the same.  5  bad allergies to Ragweed-seasonal Dries out the nasal passage some, and have had sleeplessness at night, so I take the dose first thing in the morning, and that fixed the sleep problem. I had seasonal allergic reactions to Ragweed so severe that I would get laryngitis, which is not good for a vocal performer. This medicine has helped to the point of almost curing it! Those who blame this for all kinds of issues, must be extremely sensitive to it, or needing to blame their medical issues on something. Dry nasal passage is minor, and sleep loss fixed by changing the dosage time. Simple and effective, and I detest meds, period! As a kidney/pancreas transplant recipient many meds will conflict with the anti-rejection meds I am required to take. My specialist in transplant says this will be the only real option, as Benedryl makes me too groggy all day. 4+ years after transplant this has stopped all my allergies, and no major side effects except as the minor ones noted! Well, I finally stopped taking the medication due to a severe sore throat, swollen palate and loss of my voice. I had coughing major and major phlegm discharge. It is my belief now that before an individual is prescribed a medicatin the doctor should take it upon the ages to divulge the possible side effects.  5  Allergies For the first 2 days I had a very slight burning sensation. After that, no side effects at all. A friend of mine was prescribed this medication and had very good results, so I asked my doctor and he agreed that I should try it. Prior to that, I had been taking Allegra, which also worked well for me but not as well as Flonase. You can get this medication for way less money from Canadian pharmacies. I recommend northwestpharmacy.com where you can get 3 bottles for 45 bucks. Follow the instructions carefully and don't take it for extended periods if you don't need to (outside of allergy season, for instance). Tell the doctor if you have side effects. M 58 8 years

My allergy symptoms I had since Saturday poofed (runny nose present), but after given Flonase yesterday, I began experiencing allergic reaction to the sprayer itself this evening. Flonase has the smell between honey + flowers = strong odor = nauseous feeling. My doctor suggested spray once in the morning and once in the evening during first 3 days, help jump start my treatment. Suggested to use it everyday for 3 months until flu season ended. Flonase isn't the right allergy med for me either due to the mild allergic reaction to the spray itself, but cured the scratchy sore throat, sneezing, congestion, cough, sinus pain although running nose remains.  5  Severe allergies I used flonase for at least 6 years and didn't notice any side effects until about one year ago. I began to have a sharp, stabbing pain in my eye. The eye doctor said nothing was wrong. Finally, about a month ago, I was reading the insert and there it was ! The fact that it can cause eye pain. I stopped using it and so far the eye pain has stopped. I MISS MY FLONASE! Unlike some people here, I won't blame flonase for every physical ailment I have ever had. One person swears that after using it one time they now have a "hole" in their nose, one woman says it gave her breast cancer. Sure.... This medicine kept me from having severe allergy attacks on a constant basis for at LEAST 6 years so I have benefitted from it tremendously. It kept my seasonal allergies (which for me are year-round) at bay. If you only use it one day and claim it didn't clear your nose, then you have no clue how it actually works. I just PRAY that I can find something that works like the flonase did for the first five years! I felt like a normal person for the first time. I am allergic to everything from dust to animals to everything that grows in nature. You have to use it for a period of time for it to take effect people! F 50 6 years

1  sinus post nasal drip WOW!! this medication belongs to my 5 yr old. I tried it using the same dosage I give him. I used it at night. Not only did it worsen my congestion, but it caused severe insomnia. I fell asleep twice, but woke within a few minutes from nightmares that involved swat teams killing everyone. I was mean to my husband. I finally dragged myself out of bed because the resulting headache without the ability to sleep it away made me miserable. My son never seems adversely affected. I realize this is more for allergies than a viral infection. I tried this out of desperation. My research has revealed that these side affects tend to occur more in women over 30.  2  Nasal polyps; deviated septum extreme anxiety; muscle tightness; jitters; suicidal thoughts; insomnia So I had initially started Zetonna (another corticosteroid) for my sinuses in preparation for an upcoming surgery (which was delayed a bit longer than a month... wish I hadn't delayed it) and I almost IMMEDIATELY started to get anxiety. I just chalked it up to stress from work and variou slife changes. My insurance switched me over to Flonase for money reasons, and I dutifully switched over. The drug is effective -- my sinus symptoms have been virtually nonexistent since I started the drug. However, I've recently found that I have episcleritis, and was prescribed topical prednisone for my eyes. After taking my first few doses, it felt like the anxiety that I had been experiencing was multiplied by 100; then I suddenly realized: my anxiety really all began when I started the nasal steroids! After a quick google and finding this site, I'll be immediately throwing this garbage out and never using it again. I'd honestly rather be in facial pain then feel like I'm about to jump out of my skin and/or lose my mind. Keep in mind that I'm very sensitive to medications, typically, but definitely be cautious and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY before you use any medication for an extended time. M 27 3 months

1  Sore Throat/Supposed Allergy Bloody nose the second day. Why I continued is beyond me. I don't even have allergies. I also started with anxiety and fear that I have never experienced. And it continues. My life is not the same and neither am I. I urge those who are given this drug to ask why and think about the risks. My life has been a living hell since I took this drug and I know I did not need it. I don't know why I didn't just use something else for my throat, I was misdiagnosed at an urgent care and my biggest mistake was continuing the drug and not calling the Urgent Care doctor. I now have floaters, loss of visual acuity which I will be checking on as well as needing to see a Retinal Specialist in January. I am on anti-depressants and anxiety medications which cause other lovely side effects to your body. I was a healthy, happy 54 year old on April 20th, 2012. I will forever regret the day I went to that clinic. I know I am responsible for not following up or calling a pharmacist or the doctor about the first sign of trouble, but still, this drug is extremely dangerous and should be very carefully given out to patients only if they really need it. I also ended up in ER 3 times, all the time not know what was wrong and completely losing my mind. Hopefully, I will not lose my sight as well. I feel I am paying for some Karma or something else I have done in the past to have this happen. It hurt me, it hurt my family, it hurt my friends and I almost lost my job. So, please do NOT take this drug unless under a good doctor's care and constant watch for side effects and other issues. I wouldn't wish this nightmare on my worst enemy. An interesting story on steroids from Jane Pauley is on Google. Look it F 54 5 weeks

1  Allergies It helped with the allergy. However, I immediately felt like a completely different person and had bizarre, anxious thoughts. Thankfully, I only took two doses before I realized this was related, and I stopped immediately. I also had colorful nightmares for a few nights, and I had an intense feeling of anxiety (I have no history of anxiety or bizarre moods). Two days after I took it, my nose began to expel large blood clots. The effect on my mindstate was completely new and completely unacceptable. I would not take this medication again. I recommend that anyone taking this pay close attention to their mental state. F 38 1 days

1  Severe allergies Terrible anxiety, nervousness, dizziness, migraines, episodes of blurry vision. Also, had some blood after blowing nose. I've taken flonase for roughly the past year and a half. Initially, it was a miracle drug as it prevented my constant sneezing and blowing of my nose. But I guess the onset of symptoms was slow for me. A month or so after, I would sometimes feel nervous for no reason. But it was so infrequent and mild, I didn't pay it any mind. Then I started to have mild panic attacks but never attributed it to the flonase because it was months after I started taking it. Then I started getting them often and felt extremely nervous most of the time for really no discernible reason. Sometimes, it would pass and I would feel so happy to just feel like myself. I never had any kind of mental illness in my life so I went to the Dr, he said I am having panic attacks and he gave me some anti anxiety meds, which help with the symptoms but not the cause. It got to the point where I was being crippled with anxiety almost everyday. A week or so ago, I took my daily 4 sprays then went into my living room and started a convo with my roommate and had a severe episode. This made me realize the connection. So I stopped taking the spray and the episodes started to subside immediately. It's been almost 2 weeks since I've taken it...I still feel anxiety sometimes just not nearly as severe and not constantly. I also noticed that at times I would have blurry vision. I chalked it up to just getting older (I'm 30) although I used to have perfect 20/20 vision. I would also experience a dizzy or heavy feeling M 30 18 months

4  Chronic allergic rhinitis Thought I'd share my positive experience due to so many negative reviews. I've been taking Flonase for 3 months. 2 sprays in each nostril once or twice a day. It's really helped clear my sinuses and help me breathe. Only side effects are some post nasal drip, slight rebound effect if I use it too much. I suspect people w anxiety/depression, etc have other underlying issues, but hey everyone is different M 29 3 months

1  Sinus It put a HOLE inside my NOSE! It works. I only used it when I needed it, that was probably 1-3 times a month, if that. Sometimes not at all. I just can't believe that it ate through the inside my nose. For me the world has come to an END! F 52 1 days

1  Sinus infection, Allergies Anxiety, panic attacks, headaches, nosebleeds, high blood pressure, burning in mouth, throat and nasal passages, loss of smell and taste. After all the side effects I still had sneezing, itchy nose and runny nose. Worked for the first few days, then stopped and made me feel crazy. Doctor told me it was just anxiety and prescribed an anti-depressant. Symptoms didn't stop until after I stopped taking the flonase. I am still having sinus pressure, but i'd rather just try to live with it. F 34 20 days

1  Nasal allergies Palpitations, anxiety, increase in BP, nasal perforation, headache I WOULD NEVER use a nasal steroid again! It does more harm than good and i am feeling tons better since i am off it. Go to the beach(or get a netipot) and let the natural salt water do its job where sinus and allergies are concerned. The people inventing these drugs should do a self test before putting others on it. F 36 3 weeks

3  inflamed nostrils Nausea, headache, stomach ache, severe fatigue, lethargy, moderate insomnia, backache. Side effects were random, but pronounced. Some days were fine, others were downright awful. Even reducing the dose to one spray per nostril per day didn't ward off side effects. The medicine did work, and perhaps my system would better tolerate it after a few months, but it's too difficult to work each day on only a couple of hours of sleep, especially when all the other side effects would be strong. The severity of the effects varied each day. Most days were mild, but many were too severe to justify using the drug on a regular basis. M 57 3 weeks
