1  Bipolar 1 disorder I switched from abilify to latuda as an experiment, & it was the worst move of my life. I ended up in a severe 5-mth psychosis. & a month-king stay in the hospital. Now I am back on abilify, which pulled me out of the psychosis. Weight-gain, breast enlargement and drooling at the mouth. I'll never experiment again! 51 1 days

1  Bipolar I Dangerous hypotension. My blood pressure dropped to 60/32. Earlier that day I thought I was driving down the wrong side of the road. I felt like hospitalizing myself due to feeling one of the worst mixed states I've ever had. Mostly, those with naturally low blood pressure do not take!!! It's not just a bothersome side effect, you could die. 46 3 days

1  Delusional thought Felt like death. Was forced on the maximum dose at the oregon state hospital. Prscriber hulie anderson ignored all side effects. Could barely walk, barely talk, felt like i was dying and my eyes were jittering back and forth. The prescribers of these drugs are sadistic evil people. Chemical lobotomy. Was lucky to get out alive. Poisonous mind alternating drug Beware 36 1 days

1  Bipolar Started at 20mg and went up to 60mg. Helpful at first with controlling the mania and especially the suicidal ideation in depression. I thought it was nice that it made me drowsy to help me go to sleep, but in the past month I started getting so exhausted during the day and the drowsiness started to become more like dizziness and blurry vision. Then last Thursday soon after I took the medicine around 9pm something just switched in my brain. My perception shifted and I felt like I was in a void...I could barely speak and walk but what was most terrifying was that my eyelids wouldnt stop shaking so they couldnt close. I was hoping it would get better if I could just go to sleep but then my body started shaking uncontrollably. This lasted 4 hours and didnt get better...it was absolute hell. Husband finally took me to the ER and they gave me ativan to sedate me. Thankfully I was able to go to sleep after that and so grateful the side effects werent permanent. When I looked it up I saw that antipsychotics like these can cause these symptoms, its called tardive dyskinesia and in some cases it CAN be permanent and cause irreversible mobility issues. SO DANGEROUS. I couldnt believe it and dont wanna take meds at all anymore...one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. DONT TAKE IT. ITS DANGEROUS. Apparently after 3 months really bad things like tardive dyskinesia can happen...not to be trusted. These pharmaceutical companies should go to hell. 31 4 months

5  Schizoaffective Weight Gain, Increased Hunger, Breasts more Dense and Heavy, Knocks me out. Taken combined with Lamotrigine The voices have left. Relief. Sad though since second increase now to 60 mg in less than a year. I've been on many medications. Reactions to most. From trouble breathing (Invega), TD (Haldol, Ambilify), breast lactation (Forgot while in acute ward), circulation where half body numb when laying on side, if on left side, right side numbed, (Invega), tongue rolling (Haldol, Ambilify), difficult swallowing (Haldol), Manic feeling like wanted to jump out if own skin. A sensation so aweful to where you felt yucky in skin. Had to pace non stop until my legs and I collapsed with exhaustion. Medical term starts with an A, forgot it A competent psych told me what others mistakened as mania. I actually suffer from depression but medication before made me too hyper)(Haldol) enlarged liver (Depakote ER), involuntary sounds like horse from wind leaving, hard to explain but embarrassing (Ambilify), upper respiratory in sinuses getting congested had to take allergy medication (Seroquel), coughing from constant mucus projection(Olanzapine). Needless to say not good stuff. But my symptoms are hell, and I wish this stuff was less expensive. It is a miracle worker for me. So gentle, livable side affects considering the hell these past 12 years have been trying other stuff. The negative talk stopped as did the whispers. Helped so much on depression without making me super happy or numb. I still feel emotions which is important but I can deal with it better now. F 44 11 months

5  BP II depression Sometimes restless, restless legs around bedtime, night sweats (but also in menopause so it's likely just contributing factor) So far this has been a game changer! I was rapid cycling to 2 weeks of depression every month and tired of the cycle-so bad at points I wouldn't shower, couldn't go to work or barely get out of bed. But with the Latuda it was almost immediately the opposite - within a few doses I was motivated again, interested in doing things around the house, and leaving it to run errands, etc. I do have concerns about negative possible side effects so am being watchful for them but at this point I'm happy my Dr prescribed and doing extremely well F 51 7 weeks

5  Bipolar Disorder Starting out, I loved Latuda. My mood went from miserable, borderline suicidal somedays, I don't want want to leave my room to hiking with my fiancé, taking day trips, spending time with family and friends and most importantly I was smiling and laughing again! The downside was I had some side effects that weren't so pleasant. Early on I experienced stomach aches and nausea to the point where I was standing over the toilet for an hour waiting to throw up. I had headaches and fatigue alongside the stomach pains so I spent a lot of time face down on my bed crying into a pillow. While I had a friend who had the same problem and was given medication for her stomach to use as needed, my doctor decided instead to not increase my Latuda dose as planned. At that point I believe I was at 25 mg so rather than up it to 50 mg we waited. My doctor also tried to address my symptoms in relation to situations. So I was told I needed to drink more water, as much as possible when I'm exercising or spending time outdoors. Often times my headaches and fatigue could be linked to being overheated so by going for a simple walk on a warm day, that's enough to do it. Drink water! Even if it's not that hot outside or you're just doing your daily routine, stay hydrated. My stomach pains and nausea went away once we slowed down the dosage increase and spread it out very very gradually. I had an occasional upset stomach once or twice in the process but it was nothing like before and it lasted a matte All medications have a lengthy list of potential side effects and Latuda is no different. If you're bipolar or schizophrenic and you try Latuda and you feel like yourself again, you feel more balanced, happy, outgoing or you think it's doing what it needs to be doing (I'm not 100% sure how it works for schizophrenia but you get the idea) but you experience side effects, it's not over. Finding a good medication is not easy and it takes adjusting and sometimes adding and subtracting something else with it. If your extremely nauseas, tell your doctor you need something for nausea or possibly a lower dose. If you're having headaches or fatigue, take a look at your daily activities and see if you're possibly overheating. Try drinking more water during and after activities, a cool shower if you feel hot, resting in a cool dark room. Tell your doctor if it's too much to handle. For leg spasms or cramping or if you find your hands are shaking, tell your doctor and they can give you something to stop it. And if you're still experiencing some mood swings, talk to your doctor about them and ask him or her if it could be low blood sugar and if a snack and glass of water could help. Also, very important, remember you need to take Latuda with a meal. It only works to its fullest extent when there's food in your belly. I take mine with dinner and then take my night time meds later on around 8 o clock. SIt's also important to point out, if you consume alcohol with Latuda in your system, it r F 26 90 days

5  Severe PTSD , severe depression I have been severely depressed and nothing was working. I had so much critical self talk I couldn't stop. Latuda has been a wonder medication for me. I have tolerated it well which is unusual for me because I have so many allergic reactions to medications. I realized the other day how much more fun and carefree I have been and it's because of the Latuda. I am now able to work through issues in counseling and feel like my life is just beginning. Do feel a bit restless when I first take it then want to crash. It's best to take before bed. Thank you F 58 10 days

5  Bipolar and Depression In the first day or two I was very tired. That was then. Now 2 weeks later I dont feel no side effects. When my doctor told me she wanted to to try latuda , Right away I was thinking oh great another antidepressant drug that's not going to do nothing for me. Little did I know I was so wrong. Since taking latuda I feel very stable, I do not have suicidal thoughts, my energy has increased alot, and I am actually able to hold a conversation with people. Before I would never want to leave my bed. Now I am going out and I have become an active member of society. I am 28 and I feel like I just started living. I am so greatful and happy that I tried it out because it was definitely worth it. So glad that I have found something out there for me to want to live again. F 28 14 days

5  schizo-affective disorder Very few side effects. Some hair loss, restless legs This medication changed my life. I had been on Geodon for 10 years and was depressed, intermittently psychotic, and had a very flat affect/little or no emotion about anything. My creativity was completely gone and I stopped writing for 10 years. I changed first to a small dose of each and noticed that my creativity was coming back. IN January was switched over completely to Latuda. My emotions came back, my creativity came back, I had more energy and more motivation to live my life. I have had some hair loss, but with Hair Skin and Nails vitamins my hair has stopped falling out. Latuda has given me my life back. I feel better than I have felt in many, many years. F 49 18 months
