PAXIL  (PAROXETINE HYDROCHLORIDE):  Paroxetine is used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural substance (serotonin) in the brain. Paroxetine is known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). This medication may improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level and may help restore your interest in daily living. It may decrease fear, anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and the number of panic attacks. It may also reduce the urge to perform repeated tasks (compulsions such as hand-washing, counting, and checking) that interfere with daily living.   FDA Approval Date: 1992-12-29 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  anti-alcohol, anxiety, ADHD Exteme Sleepiness, totally unconcerned about my duties and obligations, and terrible weight gain - went from 235 to 285 in 1 year....BUT...I was calm, productive, positive, happy and had no problem completely stopping the self medicating (binge drinking) I had done all my life. It took ZERO effort to quite the 2 - 3 times a week binge drinking episodes after 40 years of drinking. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS DRUG FOR ANYONE WHO BINGE DRINKS ! So what - you gain a little weight. I switched to Zoloft and am more alert, sticking to my diet and loosing weight and not too sleepy. Also, I feel very sociable and am very friendly with everyone. I am amazed by that. And fortunately for me I have no desire to drink alcohol to self medicate. 58 2 years

5  Depression and anxiety For the 1st month my anxieties seemed worse. I was very tired, tension in all muscles. After the 1st month I began to feel better than I ever remember feeling in my life. I did continue to feel sleepy esp. when sitting still. I also had sexual side effects (inability to reach orgasm) Within 6 months all of those side effects are gone. I simply feel "normal". 1 years

4  PTSD-ANXIETY I have to say Paxil works wonders for PTSD, social anxiety, and general anxiety. Bad effect was loss of feeling. Caused eventual divorce and not caring about life. I recently went off Paxil after 18 years and the withdrawal symptoms are horrible. Been off for 3 months and feel worst that I did on it. Do not know if the length of time on it caused permanent damage. Overall it did do wonders just be aware of side affects. 41 10 years

3  depression, anxiety, panic attacks Zaps, dizziness, muscle pain, forgetfulness, weight gain of course, night sweats, nausea other then the side affects it works great! Took panic attacks away, more patience, happy etc. You have to be aware of the side effects before you start this medication they are even worse then you think they will be. Especially if you stop taking it without weaning SLOWLY off. I thought I was dying. Very dangerous medication when stopping cold turkey! Dont stop suddenly! 31 1.5 years

3  General Anxiety Disorder Yawning, Extreme fatigue, Couldn't keep eyes open, Dizziness I had started taking this medicine whileI do still have some degree of anxiety but its helpful enough id keep taking it. I had worked for a company for almost 2 years, and within two weeks of taking paxil they had let me go. I strongly feel it was related to the start of this medicine, and the side effects it had on me while at work. I will say that I did not stop taking it and I'm able to take a shower by myself if I need to, I no longer have obsessive thoughts about things in my life, and have gotten a new job that ive been doing pretty good i'd say. I'm no longer getting easily irritated at work unless I miss doses. other than that I have not had withdrawl symptoms. I would not recommend taking starting to take this medicine if youre working because of what happened to me but everyone has different jobs and the side effect are different for different people 21 3 months

2   I’m just glad I noticed these side effects sooner than later because it will be easier to wean off of it since I haven’t been on it that long. These brain zaps are the strangest feeling though and can’t wait until those are gone. It feels like my brain is expanding inside my head.

1  Ppd Horrible! Horrible! Turned my anxiety into severe depression, suicidal ideation, Insomnia, fatigue, disconnection, anger and Aggression. I never experienced deep and major depression like this before in my life. This has been hell! I stopped taking it 4 weeks ago and the withdrawal symptoms are horrible too: uncontrollable crying spells, ideation, brain zaps, high blood pressure, anger and orator ability along with insomnia. Do a gene test before you take any SSRI. This is NOT a joke and it could be life’s threatening. Seek am natural alternatives. 36 3 months
