3  To help me sleep After three nights of taking Ambien, I woke up feeling nauseated and exhausted, with a really bad headache. However, it did help me sleep. I decided to hold off for a few days before taking it again. So after four days, I took another pill about 20 minutes before bedtime. When I got up to walk to my bedroom, I could barely stand. I had to hold on to furniture and stuff just to get to my room and to bed. Scared the heck out of me. Haven't taken it since. Don't think the side effects are worth it, even though I only get about two hours of sleep a night if I'm lucky. Have hardly had much sleep a night for about thirty years now. I have such bad reactions to so many kinds of medication, I was hoping this would work, but just not worth it. F 62 4 days

4  Sleep Problems from Chronic Pain I have taken 10 mg and started 12.5 mg when it came out a few years ago. I do agree that it is written to much to people that do not follow the directions. Also the hospital does not give this medication even if it's on a patient's med list. Why? Dry Mouth Sometimes vivid dreams that bother me the next day. I've learned how to take my Ambien at bed time so I don't have all the different negative things happen like other people I've read about. As soon as I get into bed I take the Ambien with a full glass of water or Gatorade. Once I wake up in about six/seven hours, I go to the bathroom and decide if I need my muscle relaxer for the rest of the night until Im ready to get out of bed for the day! I feel this medication has to be followed exactly as the directions state. F 54 10 years

1  Sleep Pass out totally lethargic very hard to wake up...sweating...clothes soaking wet. It happened at least once every 1-2 month. Was diagnosed with a rare cancer and I thought this was the reactions from the cancer. Went off the pills and that never happened again. My oncologist and myself now know it was Ambien. Think real hard before taking this drug this went on for years before we realised...we are hoping that this drug hasn’t effect my cancer. M 68 0 years

5  Insomnia I've been taking ambien for over 10 years. My primary care doctor wanted me to stop taking after 3 or 4 years, but I protested as I couldn't rally get to sleep without the Ambien. It works for me. I usually split the pill: half (5mg) when I go to bed; and I split the remaining half into quarters (25mg) as I get up several times in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. I am probably "psychologically" dependent on Ambien. While I would like to get off, I ask myself "Why?" It works! I have not experienced the bad side effects I read about (memory loss, sleepwalking, vision problems). I experience anxiety, although I don't think this was caused by the Ambien - I think I had the anxiety before I started taking Ambien. I've been taking ambien for over 10 years. the instructions were to take it only for 7 days, but my doc said that it was ok for me to take it on a continual basis. when i first started taking it i did not need it for getting t Overall, I think Ambien (zolpidem tartrate) is a good drug for insomnia. It has worked for me. M 74 10 years

1  isomenia I was sleep walking, actually crawling around on the floor at 2:00 am in the bedroom according to my husband. In the morning I had no memory of being out of bed. On the other night my husband found me in the closet hiding in the corner, again with no memory. This drug is poison and will never take it again, it should be BANNED! F 67 3 days

1  Shift sleep disorder Sleep walking, amnesia, head ache, inability to sleep, memory loss, confusion, waking in places that I did not go to sleep in, combative. I stopped taking it after I awoke in my basement with some of my firearms disassembled and in various stages of cleaning out of my safe. I did not go to sleep in my basement, but 2 floors above. I also grabbed the keys to my truck and attempted to leave and go somewhere, but my wife stopped me. I had no recollection of these events. M 45 60 days

5  Insomnia A little hunger I take 1/3 of a 5mg pill at bedtime; then 1/3 again around 12 or 1 when I wake. This very low dose has been extremely helpful to me. Taking 5 mg makes me feel odd. The 6.25 mg make me hallucinate. I think people are prescribed too high an initial dose, in general. F 73 9 years
