5 | Bad cholesterol numbers | This is an update. My numbers continue to drop, so pleased. Never thought I'd see total chol 135. All nos went way down the longer I'm taking it (9 mos so far). And only 10 mg. Big drop in triglyc also, and LDL. I try to watch what I eat but not fanatic. I hv hereditary high cholesterol. Had tried 3 other stations with bad side effects. None with pravachol. Also take zetia which removes chol from food. Combined w the statin, very good results. | F | 70 | 9 months 10 mg 1X day | 2/15/2024 | 5 | High chol 250 range. Ldl130 | This is an update. Very good results on 10 mg. Numbers now normal. I was amazed at the drop. I also take Zetia which helps. Could not tolerate other stains. I maybe feel a little tired and some days some possible joint discomfort but very minor. Not every day and could just be my age (70). I will keep taking as really needed to address the high chol. | F | 70 | 3 months 10 mg 1X day | 8/23/2023 | 4 | High cholesterol | None really | I am tolerating this drug well. Had tried 3 others with awful side effects. So I am surprised. Won't hv blood work till July will report back. I eased into taking, 1/4, then 1/2, then 1, working up to 20 mg. | F | 70 | 3 weeks 10 1X day | 5/24/2023 | 5 | High cholesterol | No side effects | Lowered cholesterol effectively | M | 69 | 20 days 40mg 1X day | 10/5/2020 | 1 | Cholesterol | bloating, sick stomach, muscle pain, cramps,so tired.face feels weird.too many bad feelings. | I've tried these before, couldn't take them, can't now either. | F | 79 | 3 weeks 40 | 8/20/2019 | 5 | High cholesterol | None | Effectively lowered my cholesterol. No obvious side effects. | F | 59 | 5 years 40 mg 1X day | 5/2/2019 | 1 | Coronary Calcium Score | Severe migraine, insomnia, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, extreme weakness- couldn’t hold my head up | There has to be a better way than all these poisonous drugs | F | 46 | 3 days 10mg | 4/26/2018 | 3 | Coronary artery disease | Excessive fatigue | I tried other statins 10 years ago and could not tolerate the pain so stopped them. I had stents put in my heart in October , 2017 for 4 serious blockages. Likely would be dead if not for the life-saving angioplasty. So far no pain on Pravachol but very tired and my cholesterol has not dropped enough. The other drug option is Repatha a non-statin. It is a fairly new patented drug and very expensive. Looking to see if my insurance will cover it, Apparently it works wonders on cholesterol and is well-tolerated. I want to live. | F | 61 | 100 days 40 mg 1X day | 11/26/2017 | 3 | Coronary artery disease | Excessive fatigue | I tried other statins 10 years ago and could not tolerate the pain so stopped them. No muscle or joint pain, etc. I take very little other meds, none related to cardio, and would have to believe many complaints for many drugs may be related interactions or other health issues. | M | 72 | 15 years 20 MG 1X day | 11/22/2017 | 1 | Cholesterol | Bad body aches cannot walk good . Urt | Do not like it | F | 80 | 0 years 80 | 9/20/2017 | 1 | High cholesterol | Developed horrible pain to hips, back and thighs. Ran fever and developed a horribly sore throat. Stopped taking medicine after 7 days because the pain was too intense and could hardly function during the day. After 2 weeks off the medicine, my throat is still red and raw and will be seeing the Dr this week. | F | 52 | 7 days 10 1X day | 6/14/2017 | 1 | High cholesterol | Depression and crippling leg pain which I still have week and half later. | F | 72 | 10 days 20 | 3/29/2017 | 1 | High cholesterol | I HATE this drug! Stopping today. Worst is the distended abdomen. Upper stomach pain. Muscle pain especially in the legs and feet. Sleepless nights. Swelling of abdomen and overall puffiness. Like putting poison in my body. | F | 52 | 3 weeks 10 MG | 2/23/2017 | 1 | Began developing a stoop when walking which got progressively worse. Stopped taking them 8months ago and have only recently seen a slight improvement. | M | 61 | 10 months 20 | 2/4/2017 | 1 | High cholesterol | Prevastatin- profound muscle weakness, joint pain and persistent malaise while on it & had trouble just 'getting through the day' - so my MD thought I was depressed! So weak I could hardly drive...so I recently stopped it- and I feel less weak, more engaged and able to look forward to the day but still have no muscle tone, have new hiatal hernia, inquinal hernias, tear in rotator cuff, and random stinging pins and needles feeling in my legs. Prevastatin is the worst! I hope for an antidote - I walk everyday but feel like I still have residual effects - the contrast to my life before Prevastatin (going to the gym, working, getting things done and looking forward to life - and now actually OLD, weak, and even my facial expression is dropping at rest and was not like that before...it was taking a toll on my marriage and relationships. | FDA needs to inform physicians- drug reps push so much misinformation- and knowing the truth after the fact may be too late! | F | 61 | 9 months 30 | 5/25/2016 | 1 | High cholesterol ct calcium score | WRETCHED sore throat. I thought I had strep! Sore neck and shoulders. Pain in elbows. Some bizarre dreams. I did not tolerate Lipitor or Crestor and now I add pravastatin to the list. There are others and I will try. | I had the Boston heart health labs and I recommend it. It showed (among many other fascinating things) that I am 4.5 times more likely to experience negative side effects from statins so pravastatin is one of a few that is supposed to be better for me. Not so! | F | 60 | 10 days 10 | 5/16/2016 | 1 | High cholesterol | Racing heart, palpitations, tingling of arm, pale stool, tiredness, diarrhea, gas, belching, dizziness, giddiness, eye pain, muscle weakness, strange taste, trembling, joint pain, dry hair, skin and fingernails, irritability, nervousness/anxiety, shortness of breath, chest pain, depression, tinnitus. | I believe this medication is poison. In the short time I was taking it my life did a complete 360. Horrible, horrible effects from the medication. I stopped taking it two days ago. I am so looking forward to not suffering though the effects from taking this medication. Fingers crossed that I did not take it long enough to cause any permanent damage. | F | 53 | 4.5 months 20mg 1X day | 5/1/2016 | 1 | Hyperlipidemia | Insomnia, acid reflux, bloating, joint, muscle aches. I took qunol bid when I started it. I've tried Crestor and lipitor as well with worse effects. NO MORE FOR ME! | F | 43 | 4 weeks 80mg | 4/5/2016 | 1 | Colesterol | I was taking 5mg of pravachol a day. Experienced severe dizziness. Migraine headaches. Nausea. Chest pain. Stop taking the drug after 5 days.. May be good for others but not for me. | I am 60 years old and never had to take any type of prescription drugs.First med I ever took. Pravachol was a bad experience for me. quit taking it and I feel 100% better without it. | M | 60 | 5 days 5 MG | 4/4/2016 |
PRAVACHOL (PRAVASTATIN SODIUM): Pravastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs known as "statins." It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks. In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking. Consult your doctor for more details. FDA Approval Date: 2001-12-18 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
