ZOLOFT  (SERTRALINE HYDROCHLORIDE):  Sertraline is used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). This medication may improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level and may help restore your interest in daily living. It may decrease fear, anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and the number of panic attacks. It may also reduce the urge to perform repeated tasks (compulsions such as hand-washing, counting, and checking) that interfere with daily living. Sertraline is known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural substance (serotonin) in the brain.   FDA Approval Date: 1991-12-30 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Chest tightness Horrific long lasting effects - took for only 5-6 weeks at low dose and been off it for 4 months and still suffer: severe anxiety, panic, depersonalization/derealization, brain fog, vision problems, inner dread, suicidal ideation, never ever any of had these before zoloft I went from a multi functional go go happy active and fit woman , mother, wife, neuroscientist (my occupation) who was just experiencing some chest tightness due to work stress , into a bedridden totally dysfunctional psycho woman. Don't know if I ll ever recover. I d love to hear from anyone who has survived Zoloft side effects... Stay away from Zoloft and I would say any SSRI F 44 45 days

5  MDD/Anxiety increased anxiety, dry mouth, shaking, blurred vision, stomach distress, heart palpitations It took months until i found my therapeutic dose of Zoloft that finally worked for me! I used to screenshot and save all the positive reviews and i will read them thinking will i ever feel better! After I started zoloft, I thought i was going crazy, especially when i woke up In the morning. Tried to manage it and I would call the doctor of this is normal and he said yes, until the zoloft starts working! He suggested to take 0.5 mg Ativan when i was feeling really bad and anxious and it worked! There were good days and bad days during these months, the recovery was not linear. After a long time of dealing with low mood, and anxiety I wanted to come here and give some positive reviews for the people that are currently going though it! It will get better but please be patient with the medicine! I started with 25 mg, after 2 months went for 50mg then 75 mg and im staying at this dose for the next months! Im on month 6 now and feeling much better and calm! Also one thing is try not to pay attention over analyzing how you feel, and why you feel this way! It's all normal as your body/brain adjusts to the medicine! If you are not hungry or if you don't feel well, juat rest, eat when you feel hungry( for me it was best to eat in the evening). Try not to think about the next day! Learn to accept that this is only temporary and nothing will happen to you! It's just a matter on time until you feel yourself again and let the Zoloft F 29 5 months

2  Major depression and anxiety Dizziness, lack of appetite, nausea, night terrors, increased anxiety. This medication was helpful with the depression and I was really trying to push through the side effects but a week ago after I took it, I got up to go the bathroom and ended up getting so dizzy I passed out and fell onto the side of my bathtub resulting in two fracture ribs. I am in horrible pain right now and can't work for about six weeks now. Please be careful with this medicine, I'm lucky I didn't have more of a serious injury. I'm giving up on antidepressants, I've been on just about all of them and end up having bad side effects. F 56 7 days

3  Anxiety/OCD Extreme nausea to the extent that I find myself throwing up at some point most days. The first month taking it I also noticed I had some trouble sleeping, but this side effect did not last. Despite constantly feeling nauseous after taking Zoloft, it has greatly improved my anxiety and ocd symptoms. It takes time for it to start working though, so if you can suffer through the first couple months it really does tend to have a positive impact on symptoms!! F 21 2 years

5  Generalized Anxiety PTSD Increased anxiety the first week or so as well as blurred up close vision. Longer sexual stamina. Minor upset stomach if taken on empty stomach. I am a retired veteran. This drug allowed me to live my life like I was never able to. I lived with generalized anxiety and social phobia for so long I accepted it as the norm. This medication was prescribed by my psych after CBT session of trying to find the root cause of my PTSD and worry. I am so grateful this medication has enabled me to live my live more peacefully. I recommend to seek help and find whatever method works for you to alleviate your suffering. These drugs can have a bad reputation because some people probably exaggerate their mental illness and get terrible results from taking the meds. For me, it's working with a positive effect.  3  Anxiety/ depression Insomnia, panic attacks, difficulty breathing, sweating, shaking, headaches, tingling throughout my body, loss of appetite, increased anxiety, lowered RH. I seem to be very sensitive to drugs and that's a shame because I did see potential in Zoloft, but out of fear of complications from taking the drug, I discontinued it after 3 days. It helped relax my body and lowered my resting heart rate dramatically. I would encourage those experiencing uncomfortable side effects to keep taking Zoloft for the cardiac benefits alone, so long as the side effects aren't serious. F 30 0 days

1  depression, schizophrenia, psychosis Horrible thoughts, worsened anxiety, worsened depression, gave me homosexual thoughts, nightmares, irritability Gave me thoughts of torture and death, couldn't sleep the two nights I took it and when I did finally fall asleep I had horrible nightmares just like all the other anti depression/anxiety/psychotic medication gives me its all the same. Gave me gay thoughts the second night I took it and I'm not gay but all of these psychiatric medications do this to me and try to change the way I think because they increase estrogen levels so much. I'm off all my meds now except for Ativan and feel much better now. M 28 2 days

5  Depression/Social anxiety None I'm so happy that a psychiatrist finally suggested Zoloft, another treatment than Lexapro, Celexa, Effexor and Seroquel. They all made me like a lethargic zombie without any motivation and causing weight gain. Finally, I have my life back, I don't suffer from depression and social anxiety anymore and I still feel my emotions. Also, it's weight neutral. I have ADHD also and it increase my cognitive functions. It potentiates my Adderall 40 mg and Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. My energy level is normal, but much higher than on other treatments. I still have insomnia and have to take zopiclone 7.5 mg + melatonine 3 mg at night. I still have anxiety but it's part of life and I see a psychologist for CBT therapy to manage my emotions. I think that erasing all the symptoms with pills is not the answer. I go to the gym also to boost the antidepressant and anti-anxiety effect. M 40 90 days
