It caused a medium cough that I already had to get 10 times worse. I coughed 24 hours a day on Zyrtec. Nothing seemed to work until we started looking at the side effects of Zyrtec and realized that I should not even have been prescribed this medication with the conditions I already have, Zyrtec just compounded everything to the point where I was feeling worse by the day. It is awful and I immediately stopped it and will not let my doctor tell me I have to take it. Doctors nowadays are so busy they don't even pay attention to what you're telling them. They prescribe things without truly telling you what the side effects might be. If I have a bad attack of hay fever coming on, I take one tablet daily for one or two days and within an hour there is relief. This regimen which I have been using for many years controls my hay fever and keeps me from getting Sinusitis and/or Bronchitis. If I am near someone who sneezes, I hold my breath until I can get away from them because I can get a sinus infection just like that. So I always travel with Zyrtec to protect me when I have hay fever or to keep me from getting a sinus infection. I think it's the best antihistamine medicine on the market, and I've used them all. It is expensive, but worth the cost to keep me safe. I have had Asthma since I was eleven. I did more research and found that Zyrtec supresses Histamine ratger than breaking it down. I had very low DAO enzyme in my body so coukd not vreak the excess histamine down naturally. After weeks of hell once I stopped taking Zyrtec I bought Histame capsules on the internet and within 3 days. had the itching under control. I tackled the root cause of my low DAO with the help of a nutritionist and was able to stop the Histame after a few weeks. I do eat a low histamine diet now which also helps. I would never ever take Zyrtec again | Zyrtec shoudnt be available over the counter. However, I developed dry, scaly skin on my face, dandruff in my eyebrows, and red, swollen cracked lips. The corners of my mouth were cracked, and it hurt to open my mouth wide enough to eat. I thought I had developed an allergy to my moisturizer and lipstick, so I changed to non-allergenic products with no effect. My nostrils were also dry and scabby. Recently, I had several nose bleeds. At my annual checkup, the optomotrist diagnosed chronic dry eyes and prescribed Restasis, which contains cyclosporine, a powerful drug used by transplant patients to prevent organ rejection. About this time, I had my teeth cleaned, and the dental hygienist diagnosed dry mouth, which is causing plaque to form at the top of my porcelain crowns. (In a healthy mouth, saliva helps rinse decay-forming bacteria from the teeth.) Chronic dry eyes, nose bleeds, and dry mouth motivated me to research Zyrtec. My entire body was covered was covered with large welts and even loose clothing caused painful hives to erupt . There are no words to describe the suffering involved. I finally had to start taking Zyrtec again to stop the suffering, which was acute. | I called the manufacturer of Zyrtec for advice on how to get off the drug, but the representatives I spoke to on two occasions said they had never heard of any side effects from quitting the drug. Without any guidance from the manufacturer, I reduced the amount of the medication very gradually from three-quarters of a pill, to half. This took me about two years to accomplish. Now, three years later, I'm down to one-quarter of a tablet once a day. It has taken that long to almost get my system rebalanced! I hope I can get off this drug completely. I think it's criminal that there aren't warnings about discontinuing this medication Worst of all, I was offended and angered by the arrogance of the manufacturer who said through their representatives that they'd "never heard" of anyone suffering from discontinuing the drug. Apparently, most doctors have also been misled about Zyrtec and believe it's benign.
