| 1 | GERD | These effects happened upon withdrawal of this medication: severe anxiety and panic attacks, heart palpitations and prolonged qt interval on ecg, tremors, muscle pain, stiffness, severe twitching, insomnia, nausea/vomiting, headaches, neurological problems, brain fog, memory loss, and more. Symptoms persisted for weeks. | These issues result from immune activation when you stop taking the medicine also calcium and magnesium imbalances. I am writing this on behalf of my husband. The only things that helped him were the following: taking chewable calcium, taking a magnesium supplement and tapering off over several months. He had to get a prescription for a 10mg pill from his doctor in order to do this. The calcium was really helpful and the chewable form seems to be more bioavailable and helped with the tremors. Your body can quickly become dependent on this so be careful taking this, that’s why it is only recommended for short term use (2 weeks and under) but most doctors believe it is a harmless pill. Just like others on here, none of the doctors acknowledged my husbands symptoms as being a result of coming off this medication, they all thought we were crazy even though there are articles stating that these drugs effect the muscles, brain and immune system and cause serious withdrawal effects. | M | 36 | 1 years 40 | 4/9/2019 | 1 | Acid reflux | Extreme anxiety terrible gas and bloating back pain. chest pain. I'd only been on it for 3 days before I felt the symptoms. I was sitting, eating breakfast and right as it kicked in I suddenly felt my chest was tight, harder to breath. It didn't go away the entire day which was unusual, not like the mild chest ache from heart burn. I was scared of course! I thought I was having a heart attack or something was just really really off. A lot of other people say this medication spiked their anxiety; I'm not sure if the omeprazole gave me anxiety or just the symptoms made me more panicky. The frustrating thing is the more I worried, the more the possibility that I was making it worse. I was so relieved to find other people commenting on this medication, I teared up. So even people only on it for a short time also feel like death is behind them! I didn't want to eat, I could barely do basic things I was so tired, and of course I was scared out of my mind that I was dying. It's only been one day I'm off of it, and the palpitations started up. I wish I didn't have to think about them, that's why I'm writing this to give help to someone who may need it. I think that if you've found other medications to make you sleepy or give you brain-fog, or basically mess with your head, this one may too. I was a normal healthy person until I started having severe stomach issues. I went to my GP and he prescribed me Prilosec 20mg twice a day. I started taking this and immediately got a headache which I thought might have been caused by another medication they prescribed me at the same time. Long story short my gallbladder was the problem. I had it removed but was told to continue with the prilosec. STUPID. I have since stopped the drug and I am getting better. SLOWLY, 2 steps forward and 3 steps back it feels like. I am taking b12, D3, and Magnesium. These have helped with the headaches and for the past week I have felt better. I stopped the prilosec about 3 or 4 weeks ago and still have some of the side effects. I really thought i was going crazy, never depressed, never anxious, and typically was in a good mood until i started this hell drug. I wasn't producing enough acid and they still kept me on a PPI?? you have to do your own research and cure yourself if you dont want to be pumped full of medication. Feel free to reach out to me and talk this was/is a horrible time in my life but I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I am more than happy to talk to anyone about my experience. | M | 28 | 8 weeks 20 2X day | 7/13/2018 | 1 | Gastroenteritis | I really regret taking prilosec, i fell ill with a virus last december that caused gastroenteritis (severe acid reflux and diarrhea).. i was told to take omeprazole for 14 day treatment.. at the time i did not experience any side effects so after the 14 day treatment was over, about a week later i experienced acid rebound that sent me to the ER. The er dr said i needed to up the dose to 40 mg 2x/day... and this is when i became more ill.. i had severe diarrhea for 9 days, blurry vision, brain fog, muscle twitching, cramping, body jolts before going to sleep, . i couldnt digest my food.. but i did not know what was happening to me.. i was so sick i had to have a colonoscopy and egd.. i was told i had unspecified colitis.. i stupidly cont this drug bc thats what the drs told me to do.. and as im trying to heal my gut from whatever virus i had i started to develop new symptoms.. extreme brain fog, memory loss, fatigue, anxiety, muscle twitching, buzzing in certain parts of my body.. frequent urination in am. I feel as if i have nerve damage of some kind because of this ppi.. after 4 1/2 months of this posion i have since stopped this med and it has been 11 days but my twitching is still there.. i know this drug caused these other problems bc as i weaned from 40 mg to 20mg to then every other day i began experiencing body jolts and more nerve problems, numbness in certain parts, etc. has this happened to anyone else and did anyone make a full recovery??
