I was looking for some clarity on how long people experienced the side effects. I was supposed to take for 30 days. Only took it for 20 days then started having anxiety and sleeplessness. I didn't link the 2 together I really stopped taking the MED b/c I was on it for throat irritation and felt like it had cleared up so I stopped. It just so happened it was around the same time the sides started. Let me first start by saying I am an excellent sleeper and can normally not even make it through a movie without falling asleep. I can usually take naps no problem and could sleep 10-12 hrs if I didn't have to get up. When I was on vacation all of a sudden I started waking up for no reason(this was about 20 days on the MED) 2-3 times a night. I would wake up feeling hot, and kind of in a panic and felt claustrophobic. I was usually able to get back to sleep. I attributed to not being in my | Some things I tried- Drinking Chamomile Tea before bed, melatonin, benydryl, magniesium, b12, b6, multivitamin, CBD oil On about the 2-3 week after stopping the MED I would still wake at night every 1-2 hrs. but would be able to go back asleep within 30 mins or so, I would still feel hot, the anxiety was lower but still intermittent. I was still not anywhere near my normal self but it was more tolerable as I could get some decent sleep and function the next day. Wk 4-6 I cont. to wake less freq. and would be able to get back to sleep within 10 mins. The anxiety was gone mostly After Wk 6 I felt like I was back to normal. I started sleeping through the night, could take nap during day, had no more waking up feeling hot, and no more anxiety. Also I have never had any sleep or anxiety problems ever in my life. I am not sure if any of the vitamins/ meds listed above helped decrease the amount of time to help me get back to myself or not. It could be that your body just needs time. I was willing to do about anything during the 2 worst weeks. I went to a sleep doctor (who just told me I had a sleep maintenance insomnia from anxiety). Anyways it looks like I am back to normal and hopefully no long term effects will be done. But this is a NASTY drug and I will never take again. I hope this helps someone in the future to give you hope that you will get back to normal with time. I had some long and miserable days of wondering if it would ever end. Do not take it! | F | 35 | 3 weeks 40 1X day | 10/14/2020 | 1 | GERD/LPRD | I started Prilosec at 20 mg once a day from my PCP (slight acid reflux) and then ENT increased to 40 mg once a day because I started having a lot of burping and feeling of something stuck in back of throat (looking back I think this was a side effect of Prilosec). I then was referred to GI because I was having a feeling of gagging and burping SO bad. GI increased to 40 mg twice a day and two days later, I had the first panic attack of my life. I've never had issues with mental health but felt like I couldn't sit still, think straight, and SO much anxiety. I didn't even know what anxiety felt like until I took this drug and they increased my dosage. I then googled prilosec and and anxiety and came across this page. I immediately stopped taking because I knew this drug was causing all my problems. | I have been off Prilosec for a little over 3 months now and truly 3 of the hardest months of my life. I was so sick after coming off this drug. It really messed up my digestive system and I got blood work done and my B12 was incredibly low. Every month coming off this drug I continue to feel better and like myself again. I now tell everyone I know to NEVER take this drug. I was so dizzy, nauseous, diarrhea, no appetite, tingling in my face/hands, felt like everything good I had was disappearing and the worst anxiety/depression (something I'd never felt in my life). I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy last week and everything was completely fine, so reassuring to know nothing is actually wrong. Best of luck to anyone taking this drug and recommend if you have any side effects get off ASAP. Felt anxious, but did not relate it to the medication. Acid resolved in 1 hr. after taking it. Acid controlled for two days, then it returned. I took a second dose. Controlled acid in 2 hours. Lightheaded again. I then also began suffering from full anxiety attacks, heart palpitations, crying spells, nausea, brain fog, and ears ringing. It has been 5 days since I last took it, and I am still suffering. This is torture!!! If anyone knows how to reverse these effects, please contact me. I had no intense symptoms until recently when they upped my medicine to 40mg. I started having severe anxiety, not being able to sit still. Irritable. Panic attacks at night. Horrible should be recalled and never put back on shelves! His first symptons showed after 6mths of taking Omeprazole (UK) he was not given any advise on how long to take the meds, with tingling in legs, a visit to the Dr blood samples ruled out everything but a slight increase in iron levels. He then went through a whole array of side effects. He found taking valerium and magnesium helped with his night jolts, sleep and twitching in limbs . After 10 months he stopped taking his meds and things started to improve. Unfortunately after 2 months he had symptoms of ulcer and started taking omeprazole again. This time his side affects were instant! Hes weaning himself of the omeprazole and we are now looking at alternative solutions to manage his acid levels. It's strange and am angry that his Dr had not picked up on his side affects and prescribed an alternative med., all of this could have been avoided. After looking up "Prilosec headaches" I found this page and saw that everyone had the same negative side effects that I was experiencing.
