| 1 | Duodenum ulcer | I was taking omeprazole for 8 months for a duodenum ulcer.It was horrible. Everyone around me pressure me to keep taking it. And my Dr said I must be on it. I had constant anxiety, stomach pains, horrible sleep, complete loss of appetite. I was so afraid to quit because if the acid rebound and withdrawal symptoms. But about a month and a half ago I quit after reducing my dose. The first week was pure hell. Lucky to sleep 3 hours a night. Anxiety was threw the roof. The best part about it was I just had another endo and I still have the ulcer. I will never take this again. They got more frequent & severe over the next year and my doctor put me on Prilosec two years ago when I was 25. Over time, I started developing pretty life-changing side effects (had it happened right away, I would have made the connection and stopped it, but given the slow, but steady, onset, my doctor's assurances that it was completely safe, & my age being in the range when mental issues often manifest in younger men, I thought it might have been a dozen other things): An almost unceasing (and worsening) brain fog, a sudden problem with anxiety (particularly in social situations or when speaking to groups), regular and worsening depression, chronic fatigue so bad that I often couldn't stay out of bed long enough to do work and would regularly lose days in a totally unproductive haze, and extreme irritability. I stopped taking this about a month ago and while the negative effects haven't yet vanished, they feel like they've stopped getting *worse*, so I hope it's a matter of time before I'm my old self again. TL;DR: I'm stunned that this garbage made it through FDA testing and wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to feel like a complete trainwreck of a person. I been with a 5 month cough from prednisone to albuterol, benzonate, doxycycline , zythromax , mucinex, home remedies, steam with anamu plants and steaming to bring out phlegm , honey tea lemon .. you name it this fought began after a cold in the middle of pandemic but it was negative covid. I even had an inspector come to my house see if it's mold idk! I'm the only one like this. Before this year I was perfect healthy never needed a doctor. I am a teacher I teach from home. I have a daughter my life is good ... no one knows why I'm coughing yet but this medication needs to go... it makes you feel worse. I was prescribed this after I had an upper GI bleed from an Ulcer. Literally from the day I took I started feeling dizzy.. Day 2, bouts of depression and crying, overwhelming anxiety and random pains in the stomach area. I couldn't sleep for the few nights I took this and when I could get an hour or so of sleep I would jolt myself awake. Wasn't sure at first if it was the medication until I started googling reviews. I've been feeling like I'm losing my mind. I haven't noticed a significant improvement in my ‘reflux' since I never have heartburn, though I haven't reached for inhaler daily like I was before. It's definitely not worth it and I'll just stick with my inhaler. Glad I got on here and read through some of these reviews so now I know it's not just me. They put me on an EKG, X-rayed my chest, blood and urine, all normal. Then they pumped me with metoclopramide along with other antacid meditcations. I was on a prescription for omeprazole for two weeks until this past Tuesday. I haven't had a full night sleep since. When I laid down my heart would be pounding and if I tried to close my eyes I'd immediately be awaken with rapid heart beat and a feeling of an adernaline rush/fight or flight feeling. I've had higher resting rate rates since. I can't sleep for more than three hours on a good night some nights it's up every hour and a half. It's been 48 hours since I've taken my last dose and I've started to sleep more hours of the night but the sleep is still broken up. I had a three night span of a total of 5 hours sleep. By the end of the day I was worried. Checked my medications and saw that Prilosec can cause pins and needles. So I stopped Prilosec the next day. Pins and needles abated a little, but soon new symptoms appeared in addition - burning feelings in legs, feet, arms and legs, twinges primarily in my legs, muscle tightness in my upper arms and legs, sensitivity to cold in my hands and feet, very very slight tremors in my hands, occasional brief stabbing pain in ankle waking me from sleep/ strong pricking feelings. Feelings of muscle weakness but I don't think I've actually had any muscle weakness. Everyday is different. Worsens at night when lying down. Had bloodwork done to check for vitamin and mineral deficiencies and all blood work came back normal. My ENT and PCP had not heard of these symptoms of Prilosec withdrawal but my neurologist had. Thankfully! He asid that Prilosec can cause an "inhibition of vitamin B12 absorption" and can cause "sensory symptoms." He said that even if the bloodwork doesn't show a vitamin B12 or B1 deficiency, my body can still be having a hard time absorbing it bc of the Prilosec. He is having me take vitamin B complex (vitamin B12 and B1 were the ones he specifically mentioned) for the next 3 months and expects me to have a gradually improvement during that time. After nearly 6 months of dealing with these issues, I have learned the following: | The initial wave of side effects does subside after several weeks however some (chest pain, brain fog, heart palpitations, and lightheadedness) persisted. Every numerous tests/doctors, I finally found a doctor who listened to my complaints and put me on an elimination diet. Turns out I have now developed a corn and soy intolerance. I'm convinced it is from the Prilosec destroying my gut bacteria. Anyway, now that I have eliminated both (not easy in today's processed food society), I feel like my old self.
