If you google "wistar rats, anxiety, lansoprazole (yes I know this is omeprazole in Prilosec but I think any of these PPI's are similar), then you will come across a study that shows that lansoprazole (Prevacid) induced anxiety in the wistar rats by increasing the Substance P in their brains which is anxiogenic (increases anxiety). So it is not a stretch to think that if lansoprazole could do this rats, probably omeprazole has the same effect on Substance P and anxiety. Increase substance P also causes increased pain. Lovely drug, these PPIs. No more for me. It has been a little over 3 months since I discontinued this medication. To date, I still have extreme anxiety and the numbness and pressure in my head have gotten worse. I am learning to cope somewhat better but feel like I will never return to normal. They tried wellbutrin, lexapro and buspar and all made be feel worse. Now I take Lopressor and a xanax about once a week when my anxiety becomes unbearable. I thought it would correct itself in time but losing patience. I was hospitalized with chest pain, low blood pressure, low mineral levals, all due to this little purple pill, I knew this was to good to be true. I havent had as many attacks of irregular heart beat. I really am glad I had the sense to stop this drug. For three days I have taken one half a shot of ACV and it really works. I actually felt like working in the yard today. I had lost my drive to live and thought I would have to go to a shrink to get to the bottom of this. My eyes are more focused and I dont have the pressure anymore. I beginning to get my close up sight back. I truley thought this was from my age. But now I realize it was this dangerous drug that will cause horrible symtoms. I not PLEASE STOP TAKING THIS DRUG IN ANY FORM | M | 2 years | 7/25/2009 | 1 | hiatus hernia | heart palpitations high blood pressure tingling in legs anxiety panic attacks | i have been taking this dreaded drug for 4 years or more! worked great for acid reflux in all these years! but unknown to me it has been depleting all my vitamins my Vit D is 14!!! the lowest my Dr said she has ever seen! my B12 is borderline and goodness knows what my magnesium level is!! about 7 weeks ago i started having panic attacks which in turn caused me to hyperventilate! i have been to ER 3 times, and still my Doctor did not say it was because of these drugs!! instead put me on an antidepressant which i did not want to do, but i felt so ill and thought i was going mad that i took them! worse 7 weeks of my life! when i found these sites about omerprazole it was like an eureka moment for me!! i stopped taking these horrible drugs now and am on Zantac! i take vitamin D tablets and today i bought Magnesium oil that you rub in your skin and absorbs quicker than tablets and believe it or not the tingling in my legs has eased tremendously! i just hope and pray that my anxiety will disappear in time and i can come off the antidepressants! i strongly suggest that you research these horrible drugs before taking them!!! | F | 4 years 20mg 2X day | 5/13/2017 | 1 | stomach pain | dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath, migraine, insomnia, feeling like I can't think straight, constant urination, dry parched eyes and throat. PRILOSEC (OMEPRAZOLE): Omeprazole is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems (such as acid reflux, ulcers). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. This medication helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent cancer of the esophagus.
