NASACORT  (TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE):  This medication is used in a variety of conditions such as allergic disorders, arthritis, blood diseases, breathing problems, certain cancers, eye diseases, intestinal disorders, collagen and skin diseases. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of triamcinolone, especially if it is to be injected near your spine (epidural). Rare but serious side effects may occur with epidural use. Triamcinolone acetonide is known as a corticosteroid hormone (glucocorticoid). It works by decreasing your body's immune response to these diseases and reduces symptoms such as swelling.   FDA Approval Date: 1991-07-11 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  pollen allergies year-round No side effects. This drug works. I used to get shots, but they're not available where I live. Panic attacks? Sounds pretty wild. F 69 15 years

5  Allergic rhinitis, asthma, allergie Nose bleeds and burning in nostrils. Don't let it go down the throat because it is a steroid and can cause stomach irritation. Just keep sniffing until all of it goes up the nasal cavity. I'm very sensitive to oral steroids, but the other nose sprays just didn't work. OTC sprays have a bad rebound effect. The menthol gels work well to keep things loose if I'm dried out inside my nose. Nasacort does cause recurring nose bleeds. I only take it 1X instead of 2X per day. I also alternate days whenever possible, instead of daily dosing. I go off it completely when the weather is moist and warm. Nasacort AG helps the mucus to soften and drain like normal people who do not have rhinitis. I use Nasacort, guaifenesin pills and cough syrup, nasal gels when it's truly necessary, and vaporizers in the winter when the weather is cold and dry. Calcium lactate from health food stores is also great because it causes involuntary muscles to relax that often cause constriction and asthma attacks. It has a very sedating effect, so I take it at night. No one drug can do it all with me. Except for mild nose bleeds, I have no other side effects with Nasacort AG. F 59 10 years

5  Rhinitis and stuffiness None It has been a miracle drug for me. No side effects and significant curtailment of running, dripping nose (about 90% effective when used with Benedryl and Claritin); also, significant improvement in stuffiness at night. M 73 10 years

2  Allergies Worked like a charm - relieved all congestion from my many diagnosed allergies (dust, dander, pollen, etc). But, only after I stopped using due to insurance coverage changes raised the monthly cost to me over 10 times higher, did I discover that it HAD to be the cause of nearly incapacitating anxiety.(Only medication I was taking that I stopped - and my anxiety went away) I noticed in particular that I developed, over the last couple years of Nasacort use, an irrational fear of travel for business trips. I would wake up sweating in the middle of the night, heart racing, stomach in a knot, for weeks before any business trip. Completely irrational, unwarranted and unlike me. Would have never thought that nasal steriods could cause this, and shocked to see it listed by others in this forum. Probably affects a very small fraction of the users, but can be crippling for those. M 58 10 years

1  Sinus issues Nasacort relieved my sinus problems just fine. However, after about 8 years of use, I developed cataracts in both eyes. This is a know side affect of Nasacort. M 47 8 years

3  allergies I really liked Nasacort but after seven years it seemed to be losing its effectiveness, and I had increasingly severe and frequent panic attacks and occasional dizziness. When I stopped using the spray, the panic attacks subsided. I don't know why panic attacks are not listed as a side effect of this drug. F 34 7 years

1  rhinitis and asthma Taken off and on for five years no problem until I started to take it every day for 8 months solid. I was told this was ok by one doctor in the practice I go to. I had five infections in a row- thought I was going to die. Have cyst in eye and got herpes simplex ulcers in back of throat. My immune system was shut down- never even had a cold sore in all my 60 years. I would get leg craps so bad I had to put heat on them immediately to stop the pain. I slept with heating pads. Nervousness and jitters. Nosebleeds and I still get them- huge clots of blood. At the end I was getting blood in my urine and blood in my stools. I would NEVER advise anyone to take this DANGEROUS drug. I went off cold turkey and am using ashwaghanda to normalize my adrenal glands and taking a host of vitamins to get my immunity back online. I worry about my eye and other skin infections. I am itching 24/7 since stopping with NO relief no matter how much lotion or vitamins I take. This is a nightmare. I am using Xclear and that helps with nasal congestion. My doctor gave me another inhaler and it just makes me dizzy. I think they are all full of it- they just make everything worse. I hope I can get normal soon and that cancer has not set in while my immunity was down. We tossed it all out- hubby was taking it for allergies too. they should never allow this over the counter.  4  Severe allergies, violent sneezing Pressure and ringing in the ears, unexplained rashes, very bad insomnia, some stomach problems. My side effects became very noticeable after long term use. I didn't even connect them until I read the comments here. Did not experience the more common "labeled side effects" like nose bleeds. It's about the only product that worked really well to control all the violent sneezing. Now I'll have to figure out something else. I plan to reduce dosage pretty quickly and then stop. Everybody seems to react a little differently. Only intermittent use seems like the way to go, if needed. M 55 3 years

2  chronic stuffy nose at night oral thrush, fatigue, weakness It worked great on my nose but is not worth the side effects. I was ok with it now and then until I started using it regularly. I may try it again if I have a bad cold but I'll put up with the stuffy nose instead of these side effects. F 68 3 years

1  Allergies, congestion Have taken for 3 years and have suffered extreme anxiety as a result. I already have generalized anxiety disorder and my ENT basically ignored that and put me on it anyway. For the last few weeks I've suffered terrible anxiety and decided to Google anxiety & nasacort and see I'm am not alone!! I've been to the ER twice thinking I'm having a heart attack and both times was discharged with anxiety. So, if you have any anxiety disorder DO NOT TAKE NASACORT!! Plus it doesn't even relieve my congestion. Symptoms include anxiety, dry and sore throat, numbness in arms, clamy hands, racing thoughts, pain in center of back... DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE ANXIETY OR SUFFER FROM PANIC ATTACKS. THERE ARE ADVERSE SIDE EFFECTS. M 45 3 years

5  allergies- seasonal, dust, mold none I have tons of outdoor and indoor allergies and this product has helped stop headaches and all sorts of negative allergy symptoms since I love being outdoors. I take just one spray daily from spring until fall and then discontinue after the first freeze. I take two sprays if my symptoms are worse and discontinue taking if I'm really sick and get prescribed other medication that works in a similar way or am taking lots of decongestant. If taken correctly- this product works great! F 28 2 years

3  Seasonal allergies I started having severe nosebleeds the second year of taking Nasacort. I cut back to 110 mcg per day and then quit taking it altogether but am still having nosebleeds. I will probably consult a physician if I continue to have nosebleeds. M 68 2 years

3  Sinus congestion due to allergies Anxiety, irritability, racing heart, indigestion, chest pain, jaw pain. I thought I was having heart problems. My doctor thought I might have an anxiety disorder. She probably also thought I was a hypochondriac. I took this medicine for a couple of years with no problem. I thought it was the answer to all of my nasal congestion issues. Suddenly, I had anxiety and irritability for no good reason. My heart was racing. I thought I was having a heart attack. I went to the doctor, but even she did not suspect Nasacort. I took a chance and stopped. All of my problems stopped at the same time. I may try to do a half dose or every other day since it did work very well on my allergy symptoms. F 50 2 years
