LUPRON DEPOT  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. This helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and helps relieve symptoms such as painful/difficult urination. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-01-26 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Endo This drug is a nightmare and should be immediately pulled from the market. It TEMPORARILY relieves the symptoms of Endo, but permanently damages your body. Check out lupronvictimshub.com and see for yourself. This Drug is hideous! Don't take it until you have read ALL the research!! Also the manufacturer TAP was sued by the U.S. Attorney in Boston and was given the largest fine in history $875 million dollars for FRAUD and bribing doctors to prescribe this miserable drug!!! DON'T TAKE THIS DRUG!!! F 40 6 months

5  Diagnose/treat endometriosis Hot flashes, small bump at injection site. This drug is amazing - it almost completely wiped out my cramps and significantly lightened my periods. I've only had one period since my injection 3 months ago, which is normal. I have no side effects when taking Aygestin daily. My ob/gyn says if she can keep my pain down for 6 months, then a longer-term endometriosis treatment is more likely to work. I wish I could stay on this stuff forever, I love not having any periods! But definitely take the Aygestin with it or the hourly hot flashes will drive you nuts. F 39 3 months

4  Uterine Fibroids The only side effects I experienced were the hot flashes and slight headaches in the beginning, but that's about it. I was a little hestitate to take Lupron Depot after reading all the negative side effects. I guess everyone body reacts to it differently. I'm glad I went ahead with the injections because it did shrink my fibroids down a lot. My stomach was the size of someone being 5 months pregnant and now it looks about 2 months. I'm happy with the results. I'm scheduled to have a hysterectomy next month. F 39 3 months

4  excessive bleeding due to fibroids Excessive sweating, especially while asleep and in the morning, feel tired at times and not in the mood for sex. I have had only one injection of lupron depot. However, I have also been taking 4Life products (Transfactor Plus, Belle Vie, and BioGenistein Ultra). Today, I went to see my OBGYN. My fibroid has shrank from 7cm to 5 cm. I also had cysts on my ovaries. I had an ultrasound done a few weeks ago and today, my Dr. said I do not have any cysts on my ovaries. I also lost 3 pounds. This month, I haven't gotten a period and probably won't get one but I have had really bad cramps for 4 days and bloating. Dr. still wants to do a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I want to continue taking the lupron shots and will continue on the 4Life regime. I don't know if it is Lupron or the 4Life products that are helping me but I am really happy about it and pray to God that I will not need surgery. F 39 5 weeks

4  endo So far, just mild hot flashes. The first month was BAD. I have colon problems associated with my endo and now in my second month of Lupron I am still fighting the colon infection. The endo pain is gone! I am so tired but maybe that is the colon problem. I already had a hysterectomy and I am ready to remove last ovary and eb done with it (i hope). I will continue with the shots for now but prefer surgery. Has anybody else suffered colon problems? I can fins little inof but ti is so very miserable. They don't want to give me pain meds because of the constipation problem but the pain can be very draining! I did use ultram for a while but got bad headaches. F 39 5 weeks

4  Stave IV Endometriosis Hotflashes/Nightsweats I originally went into the hospital because they found a cyst on my right ovary. After the surgery (laproscopic) it was determined that I had severe endo and probably had it my whole life. It was decided at that time that I would do a 3 month course of Lupron followed up by a full abdominal hysterectomy. I just received my 3rd shot today, and the only side effect that I have experienced at all are hotflashes/nightsweats. I have a previous history of anxiety and depression. I also suffer from a weight problem, so after reading much of the feedback from websites I was very nervous about losing my mind and gaining tons of weight once on Lupron. I am pleased to be a positive light on the use of this medication, because I have found it very beneficial. In fact, I never realized how miserable I was until I began the injections and started feeling better. As I have never tried to get pregnant and have always lived my life with heavy periods lasting more than 10 days each month accompanied by severe pain during ovulation and terrible cramps throughout, I am so glad to be rid of all of my pain and the bloated feeling that I have always felt is gone. Even though I have been conscious of what I have been eating while on the medication, because I was nervous of gaining weight, I have actually lost weight (approx 15 pounds in 60 days) without eliminating an occasional piece of cake or dish of ice cream. My surgery is scheduled May 20th and I am turning 40 tomorrow and I am feeling like I am beginning a whole new pain free chapter in my life and can't wait to find out what the end of this journey has in store for my well being. I certainly don't want to discredit anyone's personal experience on this drug, but after almost making the decision NOT to take this medication because of what I read, I felt it incredibly important to add my positive experience. The hotflashes are frequent (15-20 per day), but certainly not debilitating and they don't last for more than 2-5 minutes. I have not suffered from any anxiety, headaches, weight gain, hair loss, or insomnia, all of which I feared if I took this medication. I also had a spinal fusion 14 years ago so I was nervous about the bone density of my fusion being deminished by the medication but my doctor said that the Lupron would not have any effect on the strengh or stability of the bones. I don't believe that I am a person with a high pain tolerance or a person who handles not feeling good well, however, from my personal experience, I FEEL GREAT! I decided to take the monthly injections so that if I had any adverse reactions I could have the choice to stop after each month. I expressed all of my fears and anxieties with both my OBGYN and my regular doctor. They both took the time to give me their professional opinions related to my concerns. They told me that the potential for side effects were possible, but that the majority of the people who take the medication, either for endomedtriosis, fibroids, or prostate cancer, had no serious adverse reactions beyond hotflashes and possibily some headaches. Every person has to make their own decision, but know that there is a person out there who is glad that they took LUPRON. F 39 3 months

4  endometriosis night sweats, hot flashes, insomnia, slight mood swings, lack of sex drive, fatigue, some memory issues and joint pain I am in the 2week of my 2nd 3month shot. Dr. started me on aygestin for the hot flashes. The first shot was real good except for the side effects I listed. Since the add back and 2nd shot I have started to swell, joint pain got much worse and I started to spot/bleed and have pelvic pain again. I am coming off the add back This is way worse than those minor side effects I listed. Hopefully I'll be back to that soon this is starting to feel like everything is starting all over again before the laparoscopy and the first shot...not a good feeling F 39 3 months

4  Fibroids Night sweats, hot flashes, minor spotting no mood swings, depression or confusion. I am also eating correctly, avoiding estrogen producing or heavy foods (edamame, soy sauce, non grass fed meats, etc.) I am also taking herbals to combat monopausal symptoms and to cleanse my liver and system of excess estrogen. Vitex, licorice root, milk thistle, etc. I am also taken the progesterone only birth control to minimize symptoms. You cannot just take the shot and continue to eat and live the same. Your body is not functioning properly due to a hormone imbalance. Work to get you body in alignment while you have a temporary " catchup period" afforded by lupron. After your done with Lupron you should go through an entire body fast and cleanse to get this drug out of your body. Do not take it lightly that this is a cancer drug! Stop relying on the FDA to cure your symptoms instead leverage drugs while YOU cure your body! I am also following the eating suggestions for the ovarian body type (YouTube) by Dr Berg, working out, and reducing my alcohol intake. F 39 1 months

4  endo I have had mild symptoms.. I just had my 4rth shot. My lower back feels tight, but it is managable. Light headaches for the first 2 days after shot, bearable with ibuprofen. My doc told me what to expect ahead of time. It was my decision to take the shot. I have had no endo pain for 3 solid months. So far this has been worth the ride. F 39 4 months

4  endo the first month I was a little irritable and I had some hot flashes and some night sweats. After the first month, I was fine. I did 1 shot a month for 6 months. I've been off the shot for 3 months and still have not had a period. I'm hoping it cleared up the endo, but now I'm having bladder cramps. I'm told I probably have intersticial cystitis. I would do this again in a heartbeat. I have stage 3 endo. F 39 6 months

4  Endometriosis Hot flashes, weight loss, short temper Honestly, I was scared to death to take this medication after reading the horror stories others have experienced. I've only been on the medication for two months (I'm doing the monthly shot for the first three months, and then the three-month short on the fourth month). I'm taking the add-back therapy, plus using Dr. Edward Bach's "Beech" for the mood swings/irritability. The hot flashes are fun sometimes but have decreased since the temperature dropped (I live in the desert). All in all, not as bad as I feared it would be. I'm thrilled I'm not gaining weight, and I hope that this doesn't start happening. F 39 40 days

3  endometriosis & ovarian cysts soreness at injection area, hotflashes, night sweats, headaches, loss of concentration, mood changes, forgetful, low sex drive, dryness, some joint pain I take monthly because I was so afraid of this Lupron. Had cysts all my adult life. Last year found out also have endo. had surgery 9/08 removed cysts on right and left ovary, untwisted right ovary and removed endo. 1 mth later back in hosp had surg again, found another cyst on right ovary and ovary twisted back up. dr removed right ovary and tube. wanted me on lupron - i was too afraid after reading about it. continued having abdom paid 6 mths so started monthly lupron in Apr 09 -get my 4th shot in 1 wk. 1st shot: injection site (butt/they call it the hip) hurt badly for 2 days, had headache and felt ill. (that went away after 2 days) breast grew atleat 1 cup size for 2 weeks (yeah!) then shrank then next 2 weeks to a small B when I was a Large B. (that sucked) I also started the night sweats and hot flashes. like once a day/night. 2nd shot: same 2 days of illness and pain at shot. breasts never grew back. now have severe night sweats all night long and severe hotflashes all day long, sometimes loose concentration or get forgetfull but now I feel my pain is subsiding and It might be worth the side effects if I can just figure out how to handle the hotflashes. 3rd shot: same 2 day issues. night sweats, hotflashes, low sex drive, now i have very low right and LEFT side pain--something in the urinary tract but doesnt feel like infection. no burning..just internal pain lowever than ovaries...the abdomin pain is gone but the lower pain is now worse..that combined F 39 3 months

3  Endo After the first shot of Lupron, I began the high flashes. This has been for me the worst because I could not sleep and I was very uncomfortable. The pain that I was in was also unbearable so I figured the hot flashes were not that bad. However the fatigue in my body set in and I just trying to feel better after 3 months of not taking the shots. F 39 6 months

2  Severe pelvic pain and adhesions Hot flashes; Atrophic Vaginitis; hair loss; low sex drive I consider this medicine 'toxic' so if needed, take for the shortest possible period. I was advised the side effects are reversible but it was not so for the 'Atrophic Vaginitis' I experience. F 39 6 months

1  stage 3 endometroisis I went into allergic reactions 10 minutes after my first injections. MY lips and tongue start to swell and my throat started to feel tight. I spent 3 hour in the ER on IV's. Steriods and saline. I followed up with 6 pays of steriods. It is now day 12, I take claritin and Benadryl 24 hours a day to keep the swelling down in my mouth and lips. I slur when I talk and I loose my train of thought. My muscles are killing me. It hurts to walk and at times my arms ache too. No one can tell me how long this is going to last. F 39 14 days

1  Fibroid and anemia No sex drive, vaginal dryness, weight gain, memory loss, emotional, insomnia, panic attack, anxiety, sore muscles, HOT flashes and night sweats This drug was effective at shrinking my fibroid tumors but it has costs me so much more. I do not recommend it. F 39 4 months

1  endometriosis heavy menstral bleedi I took the shots for three months 18 years ago. I was 21 at the time. It took over 6 months after treatment to get my periods back. They were as bad or worse than before treatment. Along with all the "normal" side effects of the lupron, premature menopause, hot flashes, weight gain (excessive) mood swings, etc etc etc. 18 years later I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure. I have completely stopped ovulating about 10 years BEFORE the natural course of menopause. I would not reccommend this drug to anyone unless you are suffering from a life threatening disease (cancer) I cannot be sure that the lupron caused this but I believe in women's intuition and who knows what the LONG term effects are going to be. Protect your health, talk with your physician about LONG term effects as well as short term effects. F 39 3 months
