LUPRON DEPOT  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. This helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and helps relieve symptoms such as painful/difficult urination. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-01-26 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  Prostate Cancer It's been 6 weeks since I was injected with 22.5 mg Lupron to reduce the size of my prostate. My prostate needs to become smaller so that I can have seed implants. So far I have not had any adverse effects. Insomnia was a problem I had prior to the Lupron so I can't attribute the drug to that problem. Wheter the drug is working or not will be determined in about 7 weeks when the volume check will be done. Nothing more to say except, I was expecting all the side effects, but after 5 weeks, can't say that I have experienced any.I will continue to keep my fingers crossed. One other thing. I saw how much my health insurance company was billed for the shot and understand now why the health business in this country is going to collapse soon unless something is done. $3433.00 M 35 days

3  Endometriosis HORRIBLE Hot Flashes, night sweats, depression, stress, mood swings, restless nights, a little memory loss, HEADACHES I had laparoscopy surgery on October 20th 2006. It was NOTHING fun. Found out i had endometriosis didnt get symptoms of it up until a month before the surgery, i had a ovarian cyst when i was 11 and thought the pain was there because the cyst up until i had a very painful period in September. Lupron has helped some what i mean i still get pain everyday but its more of a coming and going thing instead of 24/7 like before...but the hot flashes are terrible i get them atleast every hour! And i get night sweats about every other night. I also seem to get mad at the most stupid things i get so mad sometimes id start to cry! It really hasnt done much for my pain though...earlier today i had severe pain at first it was like a sting then it felt like it was spreading and burning it hurt so bad i was in tears! I had missed so much school the 2nd semester that i had to get my doctor to fill out a form saying that i could be homebound (homeschooled due to medical reason) because of the pain and a F 15 4 months

1  Endometriosis Severe headachs, Moodiness, Back pain, Vision and Memory loss, weight gain, breast enlargement, Hot Flashes, Suicidal Tendencies, Bloating, Irritability, Nightmares, and Bulemia. I am 15 years old and last year i was diagnosed with stage 1 Endometriosis. I had been having severe cramps and prolonged periods up to 2 or 3 a month. The doctor had put me on Yasmine Birthcontrol to see if the pain would decrease when in actuality everything was going downhill, the pain was increasing, the moodswings were getting worse and the cramps wouldnt give me 5 minutes of not hurting. So i went back to the doctor and he switched my birthcontrol to Seasonal which gave me one period every three months.Well at first it was fine but about a week after taking the pills everything went back to how it used to be.Then my doctor started to put his information together about me maybe having Endometriosis. So after all of his checkups he decided to have me get an ultrasound, when he discoverd cyst and blisters on both of my ovaries. So then he scheduled me to undergo a Hysteroscopy and Dialation of the Cervix and Curettage of the Uterus(D&C).During the surgery he discovered that I had stage 1 Endometriosis.About a week later I had a checkup and the doctor decided to put me on the Lupron Depot shot to keep the Endometriosis from growing.I have now had 2 shots in my series of 3,which I get every 3 months.Every shot I take my side effects have got worse instead of better and lately I have been hurting myself to try and make the pain go away, making myself throw up which i have been doing from the weight gain, and my vision and memory has gotten worse in every aspect.  5  Endometriosis Hot flashes, Short-term memory loss, decreased libido, depression (which caused weight gain until i treated it) If you are experiencing weight gain on Lupron, try to figure out if it might be related more directly to depression, which is a side effect of lupron. Since it made all the hormones in my body decrease, I didn't have enough seratonin and so I ate compulsively until i started taking Lexapro. I have actually lost weight now on Lupron. It made all of my endo. symptoms disappear immediately. The hot flashes are almost intolerable at first but if you are truly deperate with endo you will get used to it. Just sleep naked and wear layers. Hopefully you have an understanding boyfriend or husband because my libido is zero. Still worth it though. If you want to quit after a month or two, just give it four more weeks. The most important thing is the treatment of the endo, which Lupron is the best at. F 17 6 months

5  Uterine Tumor Severe hot flashes, mood swings, insomnia, cramping, weakness, and major loss of appetite. I am on a six month treatment plan, in which I am half way through. So far the only reason that I am liking the medication is because the fact that it is shrinking the tumor. I don't feel the side affects are worth having to put my entire life on hold I am only 17 years old and I go to Midwest City High School in Oklahoma and because of this I am not going to be strong enough to go to my prom.  5  endometriosis mood swings, minimal hot flashes, weight loss, trouble with memory, breast tenderness (first two weeks only) I have been really lucky and have not had a lot of the side effects that most women get. Probably the worst side effect for me are the mood swings. One second I am fine and happy, and the next I am so mad and agitated! My doctor put me on add-back therapy, which I think has helped a lot. I have only had a few hot flashes, and they haven't even been that intense. I was terrified that I was going to gain a lot of weight, but since starting on the Lupron I have actually lost weight. I never had constant pain from the endo, so I don't know what it's like for other women who have, but I had two episodes of excruciating pain, and I am just glad to know that I won't be having that pain again. I am going in for my 3rd shot in about a week. F 18 2 months
