PROCARDIA XL  (NIFEDIPINE):  Nifedipine is used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication is also used for certain types of chest pain (angina). It may help increase your ability to exercise and decrease the frequency of chest pain attacks. It should not be used to treat chest pain when it occurs. Use other medications (e.g., sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve attacks of chest pain as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. This medication is known as a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-09-06 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  Spiking BP Relaxation I started taking this for bp spikes of 220/100. I actually bite the capsule to allow the juice to get on my tongue and it is the ONLY medication that alleviates the spike. If u have unexplained spikes like I do I highly recommend procardia. It is the ONLY thing thats brought mine down. M 62 7 years

1  Blood pressure Swings in blood pressure. Took me forever to figure this out. High anxiety. Warm flushing tingling in face ears and feet. Anxiety is so high I am close to making poor decisions and or mentally paralyzed. I am going to see another doctor. It's scary I've made it this long. M 59 9 months

1  High Blood Pressure I had problems with being very violent and upset about everything. I felt very tired constantly. I had a problem with trying to hit someone with my car. I decided it was time to get off the crazy pills and move to Norvasc. It is a horrible medication. My blood pressure didn't go down at all, it actually went up because I was irritated 24/7. I do not recommend this medication to anyone. M 19 6 months

1  Hypertension Headache Doctor said it might cause headaches and it did. One 30 mg dose gave me a headache for two days. Now I have always had a probelm with headaches (since adolesence). The beta blocker (atenolol) I have used for the last 25 years tended to suppress them. I was still using the atenolol when I took the procardia. Developed a severe headache within 3 hours.  1  Hypertension-unknown cause Horrible drug. Made me a very crazy, angry person. Normally people irritate me but I was overreacting like I never have before Stopped taking it and over next 3 days became much calmer and less irratable. May not happen to everyone but if you go on this and notice your temper flaring, stop the med before you kill someone----Didn't lower my BP very much M 40 14 days

5  preeclampsia postpartumhypertension Mild headache and low blood pressure Honestly it has helped me immensely. I was hospitalized with bp in the 200's and this medicine works like a charm for me. I took 5 different meds a day and no good results. With procardia one pill a day does the trick. F 21 2 months

3  Postpartum preeclampsia This drug did a great job bringing my blood pressures down to good levels after preeclampsia. I went into the ER with 200/90 and after management in the hospital was discharged with 140s/90-80s. I am now 5 weeks out and get 110/60-70s consistently. I’ve coincidentally been diagnosed with postpartum panic disorder, but after reading other reviews of this drug I am now very curious if my VERY intense anxiety and occasional panic attacks are not postpartum at all but rather a side effect...
