| 1 | UTI | joint pain, muscle pain, neuropathy, auditory hallucinations, brain fog, fatigue, anxiety, joint popping, TMJ pain, low body temperature | i'm only 26 and this drug ruined my life. 4 pills into my regime, and i knew something was terribly wrong. i was in the worst pain i've ever experienced in my life. i was bedridden for 5 days and i attempted to go to work. i made it 45 minutes into my shift before breaking down, because the pain in my shoulders, spine, and hips was unbearable. i was healthy before this, and now i feel like i traded my body for an 80 year old body. i feel like i have arthritis, fibromyalgia, all of it. i've healed a little bit, but i still deal with symptoms and "flare ups." i've been from doctor to doctor and they can't specify what's going on, but they all agree it was an adverse reaction to cipro. i was cold intolerant before, but that's worse now. my body temperature is always 96-97 when i go to the doctor. i can't warm up. my body is always in pain. this reaction happened back in july, so it hasn't been long but i wish i would heal already. i want to feel normal again. i have days where i can barely move, it feels like lactic acid is building up in my muscles and my joints feel as though there are huge shards of glass in them. there are days i cry, because i worry i'm going to have to apply for disability. i worry what my body will be in 10, 15, 20 years. i can't exercise, i can't work, i can't socialize. i'm restricted to my house most days. i'm 26 and my life feels like it's already over. some days i struggle just to stand up from the couch, i struggle to lean, i struggle t | F | 26 | 10 days 500 2X day | 12/22/2018 | 1 | ear infection | in Jan. 2008 I took Cipro for an ear infection. I noticed during the course of medication that several old athletic injuries oddly returned. Two weeks after ending the drug my entire body flushed into tendonitis, and nueropathy. I couldn't walk, wash dishes, nothing. I was bed bound for about 3 months with terrible pain in my upper legs, temporal tendons (side of head), arms, etc. Ears began ringing about a month later. I had a buzzing sensation, tingling, in lower extremities (peripheral nueropathy). | After about 4 months (Apr 2008) I forced myself (on account of work) to move. I had to walk in the woods for two days. This helped enormously and over a week cleared up a lot of my symptoms. (However, I was very concerned about tendon rupture so took it very slow and easy...) Over the next several months I continued to resume my activity and my symptoms abated about 85% better. A next 10% recovery occurred over the next year. I still have a few lingering affects (the other 5%) and will likely have these forever (I'm 12 years out). They include temporal discomfort (temporal tendon was severely effected), persistent tightness in right quad (both legs severely affected), and tinnitus. These are just reminders of the event more than anything that slows me down, or that I dwell on. I post all this to say that when you are in the thick of it - you can't walk, and can't work, and you're depressed reading horror stories on the web and see no end in sight, as I was, there is a light at the end. Other than hot baths, being gentle on myself, I didn't do much to recover. I saw doctors some of whom thought I was nuts, and others were familiar with the reaction, but had to strategies to help. Our bodies are resilient and time will help. When I had it there were few recommendations as to how to recover. I'm not sure if there are now. Temperature moving from 37.8 to 33.2 through 15 minutes. Severe pain in carpool nerve on right hands suddenly from one day to another. Went to ER more than 10 times, all were looking at me like I am crazy, as all results were ok. Totally lost appetite and lost 6 kg in 3 weeks.Was out of work more than two months as I was unable to | do not take it, ask doctor for second option! There is always the second option. Each time I took it, I would end up with symptoms of a UTI, after which I was given another antibiotic, and then ended up with a yeast infection and would need a 3rd round of different medicine. I took probiotics with all of these, but my body is so out of whack now. The last dose (round 4) of cipro has given me severe symptoms of both UTI and yeast infection at the same time, so painful that I cannot urinate and have trouble sitting down. My OB-GYN found no trace of infection in my system, yet the pain continues. I expressed my concern before taking this medicine to my doctor and he insisted it was the only way to fix my sinus infection. I am now in more pain and sicker than I started. I have begun alternative treatments of Chinese herbs, acupuncture and significantly adjusting my diet and lifestyle to cleanse my system and get better. It has been 5 days and the improvement is just slightly beginning to show. In the long run, I will likely never take antibiotics again. I've never had sleeping problems before I took Cipro for this length. I had used Cipro before, but only 1-2 pills. I could not sleep and was always tired during the day. I went to GNC and became tolerant to all their sleep aids within a month or so. Went to a sleep specialist and became tolerant to all the drugs he gave me rather quickly. I was even drinking myself to sleep, awful. Apparently, the best place in the country for this type of disorder is Hopkins and I have been with them once a week for two months. Although I have improved from 3 months ago, I want to get to sleep! I'm not able to do any strenuous exercise because of my toe issue (still burning pain in my toe) so I know my muscle pain isn't exercise related. It just occurred to me that my pain is likely an extended effect from the CIPRO. I would caution anyone thinking of taking this drug.
