It has severe long-term consequences to your health. My hormones still will not balance, my digestion is messed up, I still have no energy and can't do anything after work due to exhaustion (I used to never want to sit still and watch TV and now that's all I can manage), I have completely overhauled my diet and am working with functional medicine doctors to try to detox my poor body from this horrible death drug and even with all of that my recovery sucks and is slow. Hopefully my horrible experience will save someone else from having to go through this. Endometriosis can be treated naturally without having to deal with these debilitating side effects! Once or twice a month I had headaches, and needed to take Tylenol to help with those. The hot flashes are so far mild and manageable! I like this option better than Fibristal which I tried for a year (3 months on, 2 months off). I don't have to remember taking a pill every morning and I don't have the side-effects I had from Fibristal. | I am very happy with Lupron. I told my doctor that I am not sure if it is just a psychosomatic side-effect, but I feel energized with the shots. I feel very fortunate that I am tolerating this drug so well. So far I have only received 2 injections, the third is due in 4 days. My doctor has prescribed enough for a year and the plan is to do at least 6 months. It has stopped my bleeding and I am hoping it will also shrink the 3 intramural/subserosal fibroids. I am also hoping that once I stop the injections, the artificial menopause will turn into a permanent one. | F | 52 | 6 months 1X M | 1/30/2017 | 1 | Severe endometriosis | After being diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis in 1994, doc prescribed Lupron, a new medication for women, back then, 22 years ago. It is chemotherapy, not meant for anything other than to weaken the immune system and cause so many other health problems, such as fibromyalgia, reduced libido, joint pain, ademyosis, infertility, and migraines. This drug stays in your system the rest of your life!! Do not let your doc force you to take it no matter what!! It made my endometriosis worse, and after earning 2 college degrees, was only able to use them for a few years until I had to go on permanent disability for the rest of my life because of Lupron. I am currently in bed most of the time on 6 medications for pain and muscle twitching, so I rarely get outside or motivated to do anything. It's really horrible. Don't do it, your doc is only prescribing it because they get a bonus from the pharmaceutical company for each dose they prescribe!! | It's the worst drug ever. The doctor says it takes at least 3 months for the lupron to leave your system. | I would NOT recommend the drug to anyone until the do a thorough research of possible side effects - there must be an alternative. Some people really need this type of drug. In 3 months my PSA went from 5.7 to .2, so I have to say it works. But the doctors want me on it for at least a year if not longer. My next shot is coming up and I'm in the middle of 9 weeks of radiation. There is no way in hell I will take another shot of this poison beyond the next one. 9 months is plenty of time, I don't think doctors appreciate or care about how devastating this poison is on a human being. If you've got stage 4, I understand, but high Gleasons without mets that respond so quickly, should in my opinion, get treated for a shorter time. I felt like I was losing myself and becoming someone else (with no way back to me). I wanted to refuse the shot after 4 months but I let them talk me into another 3 months. I refused any more injections after 7 months. I felt like I was already dead so what was I hoping to save? I think it has done permanent damage to my brain. Ask more questions and be skeptical of vague answers regarding this drug. It has no curative quality, just delaying. How much time will it add to my life? Hard to say. How long will impotence last? Hard to say. Forever? Hard to say. How long will I take the drug? Hard to say. Is it damaging my brain? No statistical evidence is available. Will I ever see a brighter day? Hard to say. I wanted answers about me, not statistics. Even on the WWW I can never find anything but vague answers veiled with meaningless statistics about the effectiveness and the side effects from taking this drug. I took 1 month injection for 2 months then a 4 month injection. After two months, my PSA went from 60 down to 0.4. I remained very active and my energy level never decreased either. I am also juvenile diabetic and Lupron did NOT effect my diabetes. I would highly recommend Lupron. It had very little side effects for me and left NO permanent damage like chemo and radiation do. People need to listen to me. I already suffer from migraines - this drug makes them worse - so much so that I might have to discontinue after this month because I'd rather have the endo pain than a migraine. In the beginning, I felt nauseous all the time, that has decreased. I've gained about 5 lbs in only 2 months. For the most part, my moods are fine, but I've been more down lately. Not sure if it is related to the lupron or not. Still might continue with it, but it is not for everyone.
