However, I take it as a XO inhibitor, to change the metabolism of Azathioprine. The Allop+AZA combo causes mild anemia (11.5-12.0 Hgb). | Allopurinol increases by about 3x-4x the level of an Azathioprine metabolite that helps keep UC in remission (6TGN), and reduces manifold the levels of another AZA metabolite that is toxic to the liver (6MMPN). ALLOPURINOL (ALLOPURINOL): Allopurinol is used to treat gout and certain types of kidney stones. It is also used to prevent increased uric acid levels in patients receiving cancer chemotherapy. These patients can have increased uric acid levels due to release of uric acid from the dying cancer cells. Allopurinol works by reducing the amount of uric acid made by the body.
