1  When Flying or anxiety Very addictive. Ran out before prescription refill and started having horrible withdrawal symptoms. So I decided to quit. This was in April 2021. 30 days free finally. Doctor never mentioned it was addictive and would always increase my dosage whenever I asked. Benzos are terrible to get off of them. 65 20 years

1  Mum took Xanax for her insomnia Mum became suicidal. The pills did not help her to calm down and sleep - instead, she experienced edginess, high anxiety and became like a person possessed. Her voice changed, she wanted to die - she began trying to bite herself...she pulled out her IV drip. She became feral! Because she couldn't sleep, she started yelling through the night - 6 hours of non-stop yelling. It was really traumatising.Fortunately, the doctors convened and changed her meds. She's back to normal now. At one stage, the heart specialist even made us sign a DNR form - to cover himself no doubt. F 91 60 days

1  Anxiety and sleep Extreme addiction. It will destroy you life if you ever stop taking it. Works great ,BUT after a very short time you will not be able to come off of it. It’s more addictive than almost any drug. Avoid at all costs. M 49 25 years

1  Anxiety Heightened anxiety between doses In the beginning, Xanax was a godsend. Primary Care put me on Xanax for mild anxiety. Took it for a few months and then stopped. Felt awful upon stopping, incredible anxiety. Thought my anxiety had just gotten worse. Wrong. It was the withdrawal symptoms from stopping Xanax. Unfortunately, I went on to take Xanax for another 3 years, until my body had a massive breakdown and I ended up in the ER. I then weened off of it for 8 months. It's almost 2 years since my last Xanax and I am almost back to normal. This stuff robbed me of a lot of time. Turned an outgoing person into a paranoid mess for years. I wish I had never taken it. My anxiety wasn't that bad. M 42 3 years

1  Sleep & Anxiety Highly addictive. Tolerance builds after only a week and then you are hooked for life. The drug causes severe dependence and permanent brain damage. Its been proven benzodiazepines cause permanent cognitive impairment (lower your IQ) and have been linked to a dramatically increased risk of alzheimers disease (X5). They have also been linked to cancer. Don't take it. It will damage your brain and ruin your life. In the long run it has been proven that Xanax intensifies all psychiatric problems and makes them far worse. They often induce a permanent treatment resistant depression after only a few months use. This is due to the fact that they enlarge the ventricles in the brain and cause structural brain damage. There are no long term benefits of this drug. It works at the start but the price you pay is years of torturous withdrawal and permanent brain damage. People here claiming to have been on it for years without increasing the dosage and that they haven't built any tolerance are full of sh*t. They liklely lack insight into the cognitive and emotional damage the drug has inflicted on them. I am very skeptical that any long term high dose users of Xanax on here are employed or functioning members of society. Even if they can function to the bare minimum, they are severely limiting their true potential due to the proven brain damage this drug causes. You don't need to look any further than Wikipedia to find out the Benzo's cause permanent brain damage. And stop advocating this drug on here. All competent doctors agree its highly dangerous. If your deluded enough to think it works for you then go ahead and write a review. But don't write reviews recommending others to poison themselves. And stop kidding yourself people. All those long term users on here I dare you to try and stop taking your miracle pill. Come M 20 3 weeks

1  Anxiety,PTSD,Social Anxiety, etc. This drug works fabulously when you first start to take it. That quickly wears off and you need more and more to control your anxiety. It causes fatigue, mental fogginess, and short term memory loss for me I am now a slave to this drug. When I first started taking it I had no idea that it was harder to come off of than heroin. I would never take any drugs of it's class knowing what I know now. I ran out early one time. I had to wait 7 days before I could have it refilled. My withdrawal experience can only be described as hellish. The worst anxiety I have ever had, panic attacks, visual and auditory hallucinations, my body jerking all the time, seizures, sweating, not being able to walk, tinnitus, (I hear that all the time now). I could not leave my house, drive a car, my husband had to help me get dressed. The only way to get off it is very slowly and most Doctors don't want to deal with that. They try to cut you off a milligram every 2 weeks or something. That just leads to more anxiety. I now obsess about running out of it. I count the pills in the bottle. When it starts to get low I start to panic. I feel like a junkie but this drug comes from a Doctor and a Pharmacy. If you take this drug please only take a low amount for a few weeks. Don't be in hell like I am! F 54 10 years

1  Anxiety Interdose Withdrawls This stuff is a nightmare. The rebound anxiety from interdose withdrawals tricks you into thinking your anxiety is getting worse. Finally during withdrawals- Heard voices, 24/7 panic attacks, muscle zaps, spasms. Couldn't bathe myself or walk for several days. Watch out- if your muscles are sore the day after, you're psychically addicted. F 30 2 years

1  stresses due to finances, allergies I just got a script for Xanax, I was already afraid to take it after the Dr. Told me about some possible side effects. Then I went to a pharmacist, then ask my sister who is a director of nursing and she has tried it and didn't like how it made her feel, then I read the reviews!!! I may not feel at my best and not getting proper sleep in the last 2 days, but I'm good"! I have to find another way to deal with what I'm going through. Prayer, group theraphy, individual theraphy, a new job, school something, because the horror stories about this drug out ways the the potential good effects for me, and I don't even know how it will effect me and I don't want to know!!! Anytime it takes a man-made pill to truly psychologically help one function, to me it can take away your natural will to learn how to function or live life at peace if this pill among others is the quick fix! I may suffer from anxiety due to my life's situations, but I feel more anxiety wondering if I took this turn, and wondering how this would really change my life into depending on it even for the first 20-30 mins of my life for instant relief and not mind some of the side effects! It's scary in itself and to think I may become addictive or end up worst!!!! I'm afraid and it has to be some other type of relief or intervention or something..... any suggestions because I have 7 .25mg pills prescribed to me from the ER and I have made a decision not to take it! # ms trying not to be stressed about it! S The key about Xanax is that it is a DRUG, and it going to do what a DRUG does along with all its side effects, Withdrawals. To each it's own! My life seems a little difficult enough to add to it with something that would be controlling my very existence and train my mind to say it's ok, while not preparing me for the outcome. Then in the end result my mind tells, you did this to yourself now your worse or can't shake it "it's all your fault" now that I can't live with on top of everything else! F 48 1 days

Had to keep upping the dose due to not working as well as before the first time you took it. Left you addicted to it. Bad drug. Should be taken off the market. Took me about a year or more to start to feel the effects fading. Bad drug. Should be taken off the market. F 36 3 weeks

1  Anxiety Drowsie, sleepy sometimes, disconnected, high, little drunk feeling. Listen, this should be used last case scenario for long term use. Ask yourself, do you want to be on this forever? With everyday use, it will become an addiction, I promise with withdrawls being quoted as, "just as bad or worse then opioids (heroine)" a credible source says. They make you dumb, a zombie. again, last resort drug with a doctor closely involved who really knows and understands addiction an benzodiazepines. Remember doctors often have zero first hand experience with taking the drug. A COLD TURKEY WITHDRAWL CAN RESULT IN DEATH. do you really need this? If yes, good healthcare you will have long term is a must. Then withdrawls were the symptoms I took them for (panic, depression, anxiety). multiplied by 100. Plus new physical pains as well It's a drug highly abused, and the reason is it can take a very small time, as little as a week, depending on dose, to become physically and mentally addicted M 30 3 years

1  Heart palpitations Terrible anxiety, irrational fears, iatrogenic illness that lasted for over a decade. This drug worked beautifully. At first, then it became a nightmare. Don't take it. Don't let anyone you care about take it. Please. This is a mind-altering, highly addictive drug that changes the way your body calms itself down. So much so, that you may never be the same, even if you stop taking it. NEVER stop this drug 'cold turkey'. It is dangerous and can lead to a very painful withdrawal syndrome that can last years.
