5 | sleep at night | none | I take it at night time to sleep. I have COPD and I am on Oxygen. Temazepam helps me sleep. I have been on it since 2001. Thats when I found out I had COPD.I take it every night. | F | 57 | 2001 years | 5/2/2005 | 5 | For a more restful sleep | NONE - NADA - NIL !!! As long as I take it early enough to get 8 full hours of sleep, I'm all set. If not - just like any other sleeping pill, I'll feel groggy. | 30 mg - 52 yrs old - 5'6" - 130 lbs. I have taken Restoril for over 20 years and it still works for me. I began with it because I was waking up with migraines - my husband reported to my doctor (and to me) that I was clenching my teeth (not grinding) in my sleep - job stress ?? So he prescribed it as a relaxant. 10 years later - I became a teacher - still stressful, but for 10 weeks in the summer I wean myself off of it and only take it if I have a PM migraine (actually Advil PM works better). During the school year I return to taking it every night. It has not lost its effectiveness for me (probably because of the break I take from it in the summer). That's 20 + years of success !! | F | 52 | 20 years 30 mg PM 1X day | 7/27/2010 | 5 | insomnia | none | I have been taking this drug for years when I need to, not every night. I even take it if I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep. It has been a lifesaver for me. | F | 47 | 20 years | 9/12/2008 | 5 | Insomnia | Stimulation of appetite. | I first experienced using Restoril when it first came out in 1981, and have been back to it for the past couple of years. It is the benzodiazepine I have used the most (second most was clonazepam). I prefer temazepam over all other benzos for sleep because of its ideal lenghth of effect and relatively low addiction potential. There is one particular note of importance regarding this medication: To avoid tolerance, use the stimulant Provigil. Somehow, Provigil used in the morning obliviates tolerance problems that temazepam tends to do otherwise. As recent as yesterday, I let my psychiatrist know that little tid-bit. I recommend that anyone using Restoril notify their doctor of that recommendation. | M | 43 | 14 years | 9/13/2005 | 5 | Chronic Insomnia | none significant. | Best hypnotic ever tried. Has never lost efficacy, nor has any tolerance developed. Sleep 8 hours a night, going on 12 years. LIFE SAVER!!! | M | 28 | 12 years 45mg 1X day | 2/8/2011 | 5 | Insomnia | None | Restored my ability to sleep. I'd had insomnia for about 10 years when I started using Restoril 12 years ago. | F | 66 | 12 years | 11/2/2004 | 4 | Chronic Insomnia | Very rarely when I didn't eat dinner I get an exagerated effect that kind of wipes me out - slurred words, stumbly. Have some loss of memory a couple of times a month - not remembering a conversation or TV show before bed. | Getting on medication for my sleeping problems was a huge turning point for me when I entered college. I have what could be called "sleep anxiety" - panic going to bed, panic while I am sleeping, nightmares and difficulty staying asleep in general. Since i was about 8. I cycle this on-off with lunesta. I take 30-45 mg temazepam about 20 nights a month. Was on 60mg 25-30 days per month for about 6 years. Never had any real issues except concern of addiction which is why I mix it up now. I take a break from all sleep meds when an opportunity persents itself, and I get rebound insomnia - which for me means i don't sleep at all for a night or so and then I just get crappy sleep for a couple of days and start my meds again... | M | 33 | 12 years | 3/18/2006 | 5 | chronic lifelong insomnia | amazingly, none whatsoever | I have been an insomniac all my life. No matter how hard I try, I have to take a sleeping pill. In the 70s I took Dalmane, which gives you a horrible hangover, then the 80's came with the wonder drug halcion, which i took for a very long time, but it started not to work. I went on restoril 30 mg every night, and to this day it works perfectly. I don't care about the addiction aspect, any chronic insomniac like me would tell you that you're better off being addicted to a sleeping pill than not being able to sleep. I have no intention of ever going off of these. | M | 42 | 10 years 30mg 1X day | 10/25/2010 | 5 | Sleep problems. | Some blackouts if taken too early before bed. Taste changes with food. Rebound insomina after two or more weeks of nightly use. Some | M | 43 | 10 years | 11/19/2004 | 5 | chronic long term insomnia | Hunger a half hour after I take it so I take it andGO ToBED right away. Only benzo without either a tolerance or hangover | 45 | 10 years 15-30 | 10/19/2013 | 5 | Insomnia | I have been taking half a capsule a night 4 to 5 nights a week. It has been extremely effective with minimal side effects much better than those from insomnia. While my doctor is confident that it is quite safe I am not sure I have the same level of confidence. Studies appear to indicate it is safer than most other benzodiazepines but it feels time to rid myself of what has become a dependence. For short term use I have found nothing better. | M | 58 | 10 years 15mg | 3/28/2015 | 5 | Insomnia | I have no side effects. I wake up around 5am ready to start my day. | I have to take it on an empty stomach or it takes hours to work. I also take 1mg Lorazepam (also prescribed) and two Benedryl alergy tablets along with it. | F | 72 | 10 years 30 MG 1X day | 8/11/2016 | 5 | To Get A Great Hypnotic High | One of the best High's Ever, withdrawal is tough. | Under 90 m.g. Need not apply!! | M | 57 | 10 years 90 m.g. | 1/31/2017 | 4 | sleep | M | 83 | 10 years | 6/21/2005 | 5 | Insomnia, restless leg syndrome | No side effects at all | I had severe insomnia and was only getting a couple of hours sleep, at best, and no sleep at all, at worst. After trying several other sleep medications, I was finally given Restoril, which worked. I take 15mg which is good enough for me. Since I have been taking this long term, my doctor has me alternating Restoril with other sleep meds. I was alternating with Dalmane every few weeks, but now I am alternating with generic Ambien. | M | 46 | 9 years | 10/14/2009 | 5 | extreme insomnia | None | This is the only way I can get sleep. I hate ambien as it causes dangerous sleepwalking. I was on 30 mgs restoril for many years until my wonderful new doctor put me on 15. I actually sleep better now without feeling so dependant. | F | 43 | 8 years 15mg | 7/12/2015 | 5 | chronic insomnia | None. | Works best if I only take it every 10 days and alternate with Lunesta 2mg. I take one or the other about every 4 to 5 days. I usually go through H in-between with not much sleep. I get a good 7 hours sleep with Temazepam and it also calms my anxiety. Lunesta does nothing for anxiety but it is a good sleeper. | M | 61 | 7 years 15 mg 1X day | 3/2/2011 | 3 | Insomnia | Vivid dreams, headaches, dry mouth, irritability, weight gain, insomnia, confusion or mental cloudiness, joint swelling. | Have been on Restoril for a long time, it's gotten to the point where I'm falling asleep at 2am and waking at 6am. | F | 38 | 4 years 30 MG | 4/17/2016 | 3 | Insomnia | I keep dreaming a lot | F | 75 | 4 years 30 mg 1X day | 3/8/2021 | 5 | sleep | none | sometimes wake up too early but i feel that it has been really helpful | F | 25 | 3 years | 11/4/2009 |
RESTORIL (TEMAZEPAM): This medication is used to treat a certain sleep problem (insomnia). It may help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and lessen how often you wake up during the night, so you can get a better night's rest. Temazepam belongs to a class of drugs called sedative-hypnotics. It acts on your brain to produce a calming effect. Use of this medication is usually limited to short treatment periods of 1 to 2 weeks or less. If your insomnia continues for a longer time, talk to your doctor to see if you need other treatment.
