RESTORIL  (TEMAZEPAM):  This medication is used to treat a certain sleep problem (insomnia). It may help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and lessen how often you wake up during the night, so you can get a better night's rest. Temazepam belongs to a class of drugs called sedative-hypnotics. It acts on your brain to produce a calming effect. Use of this medication is usually limited to short treatment periods of 1 to 2 weeks or less. If your insomnia continues for a longer time, talk to your doctor to see if you need other treatment.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  Insomnia I don't notice any side effects. I was afraid of addiction so I take a blue sleep gel every other night instead (Unisom) w/1mg of melatonin. At 7:30 I take the Restoril, 25 mg, at 8pm the melatonin and sleep great. I empty out half of one 15mg capsule & take that with the other 15mg capsule. I take an obscene amount of nootropics and D3 so that's probably helping out with any anxiety I might otherwise have. I avoid all caffeine, even chocolate after 4pm also. F 74 3 weeks

5  Insomnia I have no side effects. I wake up around 5am ready to start my day. I have to take it on an empty stomach or it takes hours to work. I also take 1mg Lorazepam (also prescribed) and two Benedryl alergy tablets along with it. F 72 10 years

2  Cannot fall asleep for 5-6 hours No side effects. But it just did not work. Took at 9 pm and am still trying to fall asleep and it's 11:50 pm now. It is like I took nothing at all. I never use any caffeine either. Very frustrated right now, because last night I never fell asleep all night. Finally got a nap between 8-11 am today and that was it. I hoped this drug would help. I am exhausted! F 72 1 days

1  Insominia Don't take this drug. It is a class 4 controlled substance. Terrible side effects-cognitive response, short term memory loss, depression, drains your body strength. Never trust a doctor-do your homework and talk to a pharmacist or you will be an addict. M 72 3 months

5  Get a good night's sleep None whatsoever. I don't take other medication so I don't experience interaction with other drugs. Previously I would wake up every three hours. Now I sleep 6 hours straight. I feel energized in the morning. M 71 5 days

1  Insomnia Only short periods of sleep. Then unable to go back to sleep but lay awake engaged in lucid dreaming. Was considering switching to an SNRI for sleep (Cymbalta) but research indicates it has the same potential side effect (unbelievably horrific nightmares and vivid dreaming). M 70 4 days

1  insomnia Took this TOXIC benzo for 3 years. Could not sleep without it and now am trying to taper myself off it. Understand that getting off is a long process and withdrawal can last a year or longer. Did NOT realize what effect this would have on my body. Besides depression, anxiety, heart palpitations, I have developed anorexia. If you are taking this drug talk to your dr. about tapering off. It should never have been prescribed to me for such an extended period of time. F 66 3 years

2  Insomnia I take it 2 hrs before bed. Am lucky to sleep 3 hrs. No hangover effect, but vivid dreams and severe restlessness. Was recently diagnosed with lupus (SLE). Wondering if Restoril will eventually help me sleep. F 65 5 days

1  chronic insomnia Addicted to Klonopin2mg@HS-but couldn't sleep more than 2 hrs. Added Seroquel-gained 25 lbs in 6 months-stopped that and tried Restoril that not only didn't work, also^agitation. This drug may work for those who aren't chronically sleep deprived. For the "hard core" insomniac, this drug is worthless! F 65 1 days

4  Insomnia I have not had any side effects. This works well and I wake up feeling refreshed. I have tried to wean off this drug, but cannot sleep at all without it. I started taking it after my husband passed away. It was prescribed before but was afraid I would not hear him during the night so I did not take until after he passed. I have been on it for 2 1/2 years. F 64 3 years
