5  Headaches Sometimes a hot face and pressure on head but the doctor said it could be caused by headaches that are going away. Increased appetite that i love Pamelor so far is working amazing for me i cant believe it. I used to get 3 or 4 headaches a day and have to drink caffeine to take them away. i was on excedrin every day about 6 pills a day for headaches and then i quit the excedrin and got headaches everyday for 2 months. then the doctor gave me pamelor and it started working within 2 weeks. my life has got so much better and i can do stuff now. im so glad this worked. i still do get little headaches sometimes but they go away pretty quick. now all i drink is a espresso with little caffeine in the morning and keeps the pressure off my head.  5  depression/anxiety/insomnia Constipation (treated successfully with Metamucil), increased hunger and some weight gain. For me, this seems like a really good drug. I tried Lexapro 10 mg. for about 10 days. Horrible sexual side-effects. Enough to make me stop taking it. Now I'm on only 10 mg. Pamelor once daily. I lost about 55 lbs. over the last 3 years through diet and excersize, so my Dr. wanted to use the lowest effective dosage. Well, it works! My attitude turned around after a week, my focus is great and my 5 + years of depression and insomnia are coming uder control. A bit tougher falling asleep, but I am abnle to stay asleep -- which was my problam. Still get some anxiety when under especially stressful situations (I have a high-stress job), but I'm also armed with Xanax "just in case". Down side is that my appetite has increased and I put on about 5 lbs. This has happened before during holidays and vacations, and I have been able to get it off again. I'm planning on stepping up my workouts and trying to bring the hunger under control. Would hate to have to get off this. M 41 13 days

5  Anxiety, Depression Dry mouth, other than that none. Pamelor has worked great for me at 25mg x 4 daily, best TCA in my opinion. M 41 22 years

5  Depression Side effects were far fewer and less severe than other drugs I've tried such as: Effexor, Zyprexa, and Lamictal. The only minor side effect was the blurred vision that only started after I reached the 100mg dose. Also have infrequent but noted "lightheaded" feeling sometimes upon standing too quickly. This has been the first drug (out of 10+ I've tried over the course of 5+ years of depression treatment) that's actually worked and helped me in an ongoing and positive way. I'm very pleased with the outcome. M 39 6 months

5  extreme dipression, anxiety, insomn Weight gain, dry mouth, mild light-headedness,NIGHT TERRORS,craving of sweets. I've tried many other anti-depressants over the years and nothing has worked until I tried Pamelor- truly a life saver. Was non-functionable until taking this drug, and now my life is fairly normal. I will take the side-affects any day over the way I was feeling prior. Worst side-effect by far is Night Terrors, but not sure if linked to Pamelor or withdrawals from Klonopin that I had an addiction to a year or so ago. Feel energetic and very "UP" at 100 mg nightly.  5  depression & migraine Insomnia at lower doses - went away as dose increased. Makes it harder to pee & flow is not as strong. My depression makes me tired & lazy, and I shun social interaction. Tried Remeron, Elavil & Lexapro, but they all made the problem worse. Pamelor (nortriptyline) was the first drug that kicked me in the rear and made me motivated to get out of the house & get things done. M 41 3 years

4  Migraine, Depression, Anxiety Weight gain, dry mouth, tiredness, constipation, brief lightheadedness when getting up from seated position, strange dreams. No other side effects noticed! I have been taking Nortriptyline (generic Pamelor) for about 2 months. I started at 10mg at night and have worked up to 25mg in the morning and 25mg at night (50mg total). Each time I adjust dose I am tired for a few days but then that side effect goes away. Continue to have very strange dreams since day 1. Not bad dreams just weird. I have noticed a slight reduction in Anxiety and Depression but not much improvement with migraines. Will continue at this dose for a while to see if it improves. This medication is worth trying, side effects are much milder than many other medications I have been on. Start low, work up slow! A low dose may be all you need.  4  depression Weight gain..7 pounds in four weeks. Very dry mouth occasionally. I take 25mg at night. Sleep great. Feel better. The weight gain is a concern but I hope it levels off soon. I use this to augment Prozac. I've been on Prozac for 12 years. M 59 4 weeks

4  Major Depression Serious Weight Gain After 3 yars in Brazil, trying with top University Doctors, cope with Depression, with Sertraline, Fluoxetene, Effecxor, Pamelor was the best choice. I take it for about three years now and I am much better from a desabiliting and severe depression. The side-effect that bothers and worries me is the weight gain. In these trhee years I gained 60 pounds. I was atlethic, swimmer. I worry about my health with this weight. M 34 3 years

4  Depression and Anxiety In the first week I experienced dry mouth and severe constipation (I required prune juice and Coloxyl with Senna to address five days of no movement). This reoccurred after a dose increase but isn't significant any more. I do experience weird dizzy sensations (I feel like I'm falling even if I'm sitting down) occasionally but they're not a result of standing too quickly, so I'm not sure of their cause. They're not severe though; just a little unsettling. I take my dose at 9pm each night and when I go to bed at 11pm, I don't feel sedated at all. I have not experienced any sexual side effects. An antidepressant that works without sexual side effects...Wahoo! I've tried Zoloft, Aurorix, Avanza, Efexor, Pristiq and Cymbalta. Of those, only Efexor was effective, but it lost its effectiveness. My doctor advised that nortriptyline is the only of the secondary amines available in Australia, so I decided to try it. I took 25mg the first night, then 50mg for a week and have been on 75mg nightly since. Unlike with Efexor, my emotions aren't blunted; I just feel like I'm in a natural good mood most of the time. I still feel emotions strongly when appropriate, but I don't feel down for no reason and my energy/motivation has improved. I don't sleep as well as I did on Efexor, but I don't feel tired during the day. To think I avoided the tricyclics all these years and the first one I try is effective with fewer side effects. Don't rule them out - nothing compares to their efficacy for major depression. M 33 4 weeks

4  severe depression head rush when getting up too quickly (my low blood pressure contributes to this as well), slight weight loss, loss of sex drive and painfully dry penis. Despite the side-effects this drug has definitely eased my depression. I was suicidal before taking it, but am now managing ok. I take 75mg per day. On the few occassions I've not taken it I have found it impossible to sleep. M 38 10 months

4  chronic pain (not taking this drug as an anti-depressant)It has helped chronic pain situation. I am calmer, but a bit thick headed. Need more sleep per night, and I'm hungry more often. Maybe a few very mild hallucinations, like seeing something out of the corner of my eye that wasn't right- but that isn't bad.. :) M 38 60 days

4  Constant Headaches Can not sleep. Makes my body tense. I just started about 1 week ago at 25mg. Can't sleep. I want to switch to taking it during the day, but must check with Doc since warning label says do not take during day if you normally take at night. So far, it has helped my headaches. I'd say about 80% effective. I get headaches after reading too much. It only takes 30 minutes of reading for me to get horrible headache that lasts for days. M 48 7 days

4  Depression Weight gain, carb cravings, constipation, tireness, heartburn (if taken on empty stomach), some sexual fixation Best of the antidepressants that I have tried, but weight gain is difficult to cope with. Carb cravings are uncontrollable. 50mg was the minimally effective dose. I tired to lower it to 25mg to control weight gain, but the anti-depressant effect was lost. M 56 6 months

4  Atypical facial pain Tiredness - mostly overcome with time. Now trying to withdraw from several years of taking 25 mg/day and the withdrawal symptoms are hard to live with. GI disturbances, gas, chronic gut noises, headache, restlessness. You are supposed to slowly decrease the dosage, but when you are taking the minimum and the drug is in capsule form there is no way to go but cold turkey. M 73 2 days

4  Depression / Tension Headache Intense sedation .... dizziness when standing ... light headedness .... low sperm ejaculation .... extended orgasms. I was prescribed this for headache/chronic pain in my neck/head and major depression from having been sick for years. This drug for me worked great, not so much for my headaches but for the deep refreshing sleep it gave me to cope with the pain. It also lifted my depression and gave me extended orgasms. The only weird side effect was reduced sperm output during ejaculations. I would probably be dead if not for Pamelor. It really brought me out a sever depression. I guess for some people it works on headaches, but for me not so much. Desipramine on the other hand works good for my headaches but ruins my sleep cycle. M 46 10 years

4  depression/panic disorder constipation, dry mouth, dermatitis, rapid heartbeat This med helped me cope with a major depression/panic disorder about 13 years ago. It was most effective for the first few years. Gabapentin and alprazolam helped mitigate the anxiety. I stopped taking it over a year ago- It had outlived its usefulness. I mistakenly thought it contributed to a urinary problem (most likely was a separate- age related issue) However, the drying effects of this drug can mess with your digestive and urinary system. All in all, it was much more helpful than not- especially since I was terrified of ssri's after a miserable experience with zoloft. M 60 12 years

3  Nerve pain from spinal cord surg drymouth, ringing in ears, low sex drive (inability to ejaculate) I'm taking generic form -- nortriptylene. It's helping the pain noticeably (though not anywhere near eliminating it) in conjunction with Gabapentin. Trying to decide if it's worth all the side effects. M 51 3 months

3  Depression Dry mouth, trouble peeing, anger flashes, aggressive thoughts This is my 2nd attempt at pamelor, taken in desperation of finding something that can get me out of the black hole and still leave enough of me to make being out of the hole worthwhile. Pamelor doesn't effect my libido, which is great, but the anti-depression side is questionable. I have mornings when I really wonder if I'll make it through the day. The black hole isn't very far away. M 50 3 months
