I did feel a lot better before I started all these meds. I hardly sleep, maybe 2 hours a night. Depression a lot worse. | F | 74 | 2 years 50 mg 1X day | 1/7/2024 | 5 | AFIB | Fatigue mainly. | Works great to control mild axiety and "stage fright". | M | 54 | 3 years 25mg 2X day | 9/15/2023 | 3 | Afib | Headaches several times a week, light headedness, lack of libido, fatigue | M | 52 | 4 months 25 2X day | 5/12/2022 | 1 | Hypertension | Headache, foggy, blurred vision, ringing ears, nausea, Flatulence, tired physically | The medicine has made me feel like a zombie | F | 68 | 6 months 25 mg 2X day | 2/10/2021 | 4 | atrial flutter | sleepy: upset stomach if i dont eat before taking it | works for me. i am so sensitive with another med i take | F | 54 | 4 months 25 1X day | 1/8/2021 | 5 | PVCs | Lower libido, hard to get motivated to exercise. I take it at night bc it makes me a bit sleepy and really just unmotivated to do anything. | I was so miserable prior to being on this. Constant, constant heart palpitations- hard thumping ones. Resting hr was easily 100+ watching tv. On metoprolol I feel like a normal person again and the heart rate went down to normal | M | 31 | 4 years 25mg @ 8pm | 4/16/2020 | 4 | tachycardia/irregular heart beat | Heart flutters & tach 145 bpm with huge anxiety and stressful job but not High B/P, side effects are cold feet and some tiredness. strange and diff dreams .20% loss of drive and energy. Slight headache 3 days a wk but better than heart palps everyday. Takes a month to see a cardiologist...Ridiculous! Tried other holistic ways..(On Alprazolam for stress Helps!)Others natural heart helpers: Arjuna,AloeVera,K-2, minerals, etc. so far nothing has help but still trying diff ideas and I'm determined. | M | 61 | 2 months 25mg 2X day | 7/7/2019 | 1 | High Blood Pressure | Stool became so hard when I was on them that I had to use a utensil to dig it out. When I stopped taking it, I experienced a major heart attack. | I did not really need this: the hospital was so noisy around the clock that my blood pressure shot up due to the stress of not being able to sleep. | F | 62 | 30 days 30mg 1X day | 12/29/2018 | 2 | Originally for PVC's now for bp | I am having a weird sensation in my head to wear my jaw and my teeth ache and hurt I feel like I have arthritis all throughout my body I'm not sleeping well I'm very tense and anxious muscle spasms dizziness blurred vision | I'm not sure what to do my blood pressure is still in the 150s over 90 I think I might have to see a heart specialist and be put on something else because I cannot handle the side effects it's starting to wreak havoc in my life | F | 51 | 8 months 50mg 2xday | 9/5/2017 | 1 | High blood pressure | After heart attack this was the "wonder drug+ my MD told me about. First day I had a headache, the last day I took it I had a headache. In between I had, diarrhea, nightmares, insomnia, diarrhea, and then diarrhea. Worst drug I ever took. Better off with the HBP then all the side effects. Oh Did I mention the ringing in the ears that yet to go away.. | For me this drug had so many side effects I threw it away and lost 25lbs and started a workout routine instead. No more HBP after 60 days of working out and weight lost. I think the pill pushers must be making a ton of money on this pill because I was told this is the wonder drug. Yeah "wonder drug" alright. I wonder why they give this to humans.. | 66 | 4 months 50 1X day | 2/12/2017 | 5 | Have been on Lopressor over 30 years | Fatigue in the beginning. Have been taking over 30 years 50mg every 12 hours. If I am late taking the pill, my heart rate will go up to 160.... that feels horrible. Strangely the reason I was initially put on it was for the rapid heart rate I was having due to panic attacks | It has worked well for me in controlling the fast heart rate from panic attacks, but now I am terrified that my long term usage will lead to heart failure. | F | 63 | 30 years 50 2X day | 1/3/2017 | 5 | hypertension, tachycardia | Just slower than normal heartrate. | F | 71 | 6 years 50 mg 2X day | 2/5/2016 | 4 | tachycardia, tremor, fainting, weak | freezing cold hands and feet (improved with time), mellow mood (but happy), lethargic, extreme fatigue (maybe due to my medical condition) | Cardiologist diagnosed me with POTS. this drug did wonders for my tremor, fast heart rate (had episodes with rates well into the 200's and I felt like I was going to die). I can feel my heart trying to race sometimes, and can feel the medication preventing it. It's drastically improved the fainting spells and weakness. Prior to this drug, my blood pressure had dropped to 90/60 and 80/50, I was so weak that I couldn't walk and thanks to this drug, now its back up to normal again. It's been like a miracle for me. This drug has given me back my life. At least now I can do sedentary work and function again. | F | 46 | 2 years 50 mg 2X day | 6/26/2014 | 3 | high pressure | Muscle pain and fatigue | M | 39 | 10 weeks | 4/1/2014 | 2 | Crazy nerves and fast heart beat | Swelling in both feet, bad dreams ,fast heart beats filtering in chest, bad memory ,coughing, can't sleep wried dreams, | F | 48 | 2 days 25mg | 7/3/2013 | 3 | High b/p &irregular Heart beat | I experienced cold hands and just feel spaced out...and agitated....I am a very active person and when I workout my heart doesn't get over 150.. Thus making it difficult to burn necessary calories...I'm stopping this medication...I would rather deal with the irregular heartbeat...that's easier that dealing with the side effects of this medication | If your doctor suggest this medication make sure you ask what the side effects are..... | F | 39 | 5 days 50 2X day | 2/26/2013 | 4 | A-fib, hypertension | Fatigue, nausea, depression, weakness, lethargic. Multiple cases of atrial fibrillation tried to sort it out using medication. Heart used to race at 160-200 bpm. The medication has stopped that although I still feel it every now and again 'trying' to race away but less often now. I've forced myself to eat healthy and try to exercise but its like having all the wind taken out of your sails and unless you have a strong will then you will simply stop, lay down exhausted and become depressed. Side effect of the drug. But it's a MUCH better side effect than having a-fib and its feeling of sickness and doom. | M | 28 | 1 months 25mg x 2 | 11/20/2012 | 3 | High Blood Pressure | Definitely mellowed me out. I'm seriously Type A. But my hands are numb every morning, and a muscle in my right hand has not stopped twitching since I started the medication. I've never experienced that so I am pretty sure it is the medication. | My b.p. fluctuates a lot, probably due to perimenopause. Sometimes it is 160/110, sometimes it is 130/90. I'm taking a very low dose, and last night I felt so weird - my b.p. was 99/68. Woah. Even when I was young and very athletic my lowest b.p. was about 110/80. The last thing I need to do is gain more weight - hopefully that doesn't happen. | F | 44 | 5 days 12.5 1X day | 12/15/2011 | 2 | arrhythmia, high blood pressure.. | nausea, headaches, extreme dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, exercise intolerance, weight gain.... | F | 34 | 2 years 25mg 2X day | 8/12/2011 | 5 | Tachy/Afib from Pericarditis w/HBP | Drowsy, spaced-out, vivid (but happy) dreams, lack of energy. | In my case, the side effects are well worth the fact that my heart is not racing or beating irregularly. I have taken this medication for 4 months, roughly a year ago, for the same issue. | F | 45 | 10 days 50 MG 2X day | 7/29/2011 |
LOPRESSOR (METOPROLOL TARTRATE): Metoprolol is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication is also used to treat chest pain (angina) and to improve survival after a heart attack. Metoprolol belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. It works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This effect lowers the heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart. (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
