| 5 | Cruise | A little sleepy | I'm surprised so many people have problems with this medicine. I think it is amazing! This was my third cruise with the patch. We had rough seas (that normally would have had my head in the toilet) and I was able to enjoy the shows, eat normally, etc. I didn't have any side effects, other than being a tad sleepy. Application, about once every 3-4 days. | Being an insulin dependent diabetic, "losing my lunch" could be disastrous. I am moderately susceptible to seasickness. I use the med for ocean sailing, in moderate to heavy seas, for which it works great. No nausea after application AT ALL, even when I was queasy immediately before application, and no matter the sea conditions. The side effect I find most annoying is the altered taste of everything. Everything is edible, but nothing tastes really good. On a long trip, I eat, but I lose weight cause I eat less due to taste. Sometimes (not always), I get a dry mouth and/or very slight vertigo as well. To the point of dry heaving the entire day non stop. I love fishing so much that my doctor starting prescribing me these patches about 8 years ago. The first days is filled with side effects and day two and three are much much better. | The National Institutes of Health is conducting clinical trials on scopolamine for depression (unipolar and bipolar) and has had tremendous results. Although the study was small, the results were very impressive. The response rate was days not weeks and over 50% of participants fully responded. Since Scopolamine is available as OTC in Canada (Transderm-V), I have self-medicated and have had fantastic results. I have not had a response like this in years. I am not sure if my doctor will work with me on this since it is not FDA approved for depression. Yeah it causes dry mouth and after a few days you can't read up close but that is the trade off. If you can't handle the side effects, don't take it. But after having dropped nearly 9 pounds from vomiting because of the severe spins, it's a small price to pay. Looking forward to feeling great in the next week...two weeks...however long it takes. I didn’t realize what it was until the next morning on my discharge from the hospital after kidney stone surgery. After two days without it I have no residual side effects that I had noticed. I am still having blurry eyes and headache and sometime feel queasy, I have been taking a dramamine now and then and it seems to help, I dont know if that is the right thing to do, but until this is out of my systen i guess it will do..I am trying to flush it out with lots of water. | The only symtom I had when wearing the patch was hoarseness, and dry throat, it did work great for the motion sickness. TRANSDERM SCOP (SCOPOLAMINE): This skin patch is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness or recovery from anesthesia and surgery. This medication works by correcting the imbalance of natural substances (acetylcholine and norepinephrine) that can occur in motion sickness.
