About that time we had a traumatic family event and I became very depressed and attributed it to the stress and grief in my life. However it got worse and worse: depression, suicidal thinking, terrible sadness, insomnia, anxiety, panic and I clenched my teeth constantly (tardive dyskinesia). After 4 months of this it occurred to me that there was something else going on besides family issues and God gave me the insight research this drug which showed a long list of psychotic symptoms. I stopped it immediately and it took a couple of months to start feeling better and 2 full years to completely feel my old self. Even today years later I still clench my teeth when I am tense. My throat became sore after the 1st dose and some trouble swallowing. A few hours after the 2nd dose, my throat felt like it was being squeezed with pressure over the aorta vein which was tender and felt like it was bulging. It was like someone pushing on the left side of my throat directly on the vein. My neck became very stiff, and I could not turn my neck without moving my head. It hurt on a scale of 8 out of 10 and increased when I moved a certain way. My entire face hurt. I had to go to the emergency room where they gave me a high dose of steroid and Benadryl. Within 15 minues, I had some relief from the pain and tightness in my throat and the stiff neck. However, 15 hours later, there is some tenderness and pain in the neck area near the aorta. The diagnosis was allergic reaction. While it did help cut the migraine pain in half, it caused FAR more pain and serious side effects. I would NEVER take this drug and have warned all my family and fr | The nurse who gave me the steriod and Benadryl told me that Reglan is a drug she would never, ever take herself. She said that she cringes when the doctors order this drug for patients. If I had taken the prescibed dose, she said I most likely would have ended up like other patients she has seen with their heads rolled back, their eyes rolled back, their arms stretched out and unbendable, and unable to talk. I would not have been able to call family for help if this had happened and who knows what the result could have been. REGLAN (METOCLOPRAMIDE HYDROCHLORIDE): This medication is used to treat certain conditions of the stomach and intestines. Metoclopramide is used as a short-term treatment (4 to 12 weeks) for persistent heartburn when the usual medicines do not work well enough. It is used mostly for heartburn that occurs after a meal or during the daytime. Treating persistent heartburn can decrease the damage done by stomach acid to the swallowing tube (esophagus) and help healing. Metoclopramide is also used in diabetic patients who have poor emptying of their stomachs (gastroparesis). Treating gastroparesis can decrease symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and stomach/abdominal fullness. Metoclopramide works by blocking a natural substance (dopamine). It speeds up stomach emptying and movement of the upper intestines. This drug is not recommended for use in children due to an increased risk of serious side effects (such as muscle spasms/uncontrolled muscle movements). Ask the doctor or pharmacist for details.
