For 18 months of trying all sorts of medicine I was seriously ready to commit suicide I was so tired of being sick. I take 3 10mg flexeril a day. For awhile now I've been taking one in the morning and take the remaining two at the same time in the evening. I have been taking it regularly since December of 2004 in combination with celebrex and 300 mg of neurontin. Although I have since starting using a cane to be able to walk I honestly believe I'm finally on a good combo of medicine. If I miss my celebrex or neurontin I do okay, but if I miss my flexeril I can barely get out of bed. The first week I took it I had some mild drowsiness, but now they don't make me drowsy at all. Imagine my delght after a near two weeks of an RA flair I slept all nite and woke paian free. HOORAY!! No $100/mth Lyrica needed! i am going to have this on hand and never be without it! This in turn may be responsible for irritability. | I don’t take this as prescribed. I’m supposed to take 10mg each night but I only take it once and a while. It works great for muscle spasms and helps well with pain. Also great for helping you sleep. I’ve taken this medicine more than a hundred times and been fine. Out of all the times I’ve taken it I have the same results sweating, tiredness and great muscle relaxation. Just don’t go to bed with a full bladder or you may wake up wet. But that only happened once. Also figure out your own dosage. I’d recommend taking like 2.5 mg once a day and if it works good. May need more. I only use when FMS flares up to a point it inhibits sleep. I find if I take 1 pill, 2 on a very severe flare up, my whole body can relax and I can get enough relief for a good nights sleep and get pain level down to managable level. I never have to refill a prescription unless my pills become outdated. However, this drug is not good for long term use, the side effects are major. I took it daily for three years and it caused anger, anxiety, depression, crying spells, constipation, painful swallowing, dry mouth, hypertension (bp went to 150/90). If I didn't stop the drug, I would have thought I needed a psychiatrist for depression and anxiety. But it wasn't me, it was the drug. Once I stopped the drug, everything went back to normal for me. My back spasms, if not caught early (I can feel them "coming on"), are debilitating, I cannot move at all, not even my head or neck, the pain is so bad even from slight movements due to breathing. My first spasm, I didn't know what was happening and started crying, I thought it was really serious and that I was disabled, a back injury or something. Now, I have learned what triggers my back spasms (upper back between the spine and shoulder blade, running up and down next to my spine) and I can prevent most of them through hydration, stretches, and avoiding physical triggers such as carrying a very heavy backpack. I keep the Flexeril for occasional use when the spasms get bad and don't respond to stretching, hydration, and other techniques. Luckily I do not get any side effects. For those people who have experienced mild side effects, try the 5mg dose (I've never tried the 10mg, the 5mg works fine for my back spasms).
