When I first got prescribed the pill I did my usual internet research and was shocked to see some of the feedback on here especially - however, for those of you trying Micronor for the first time then don't take into account what everyone says as not all of us experience the same problems! I was taking Cerazette before being changed over to Micronor and had a myriad of issues - namely incredibly mood swings (often depression, break downs), spotting non-stop for 3-4 weeks at a time, crazy breast tenderness (to the point it even hurt to walk down the stairs) and acne on certain parts of my body. I can not take the combined pill due to my mother's previous illness of breast cancer being oestrogen receptive so I'm thankful that I seem to have finally found a mini pill that agrees with me and my body, something I thought wouldn't be possible after the horror of Cerazette! Perhaps the only negative I've experienced is the 3 hour window, which I have sometimes missed from 15 minutes up to an hour due to a busy daily schedule (or simply forgetting to activate the alarm reminder on my phone) and also a missed period which is frightening by anybody's standards but sadly this is a side effect of all mini pills. MICRONOR (NORETHINDRONE): This medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It is often referred to as the "mini-pill" because it does not contain any estrogen. Norethindrone (a form of progestin) is a hormone that prevents pregnancy by making vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changing the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the uterus, it passes out of the body. This medication also stops the release of an egg (ovulation) in about half of a woman's menstrual cycles. While the "mini-pill" is more effective than certain other methods of birth control (such as condoms, cervical cap, diaphragm), it is less effective than combination hormone (estrogen and progestin) birth control because it does not consistently prevent ovulation. It is usually used by women who cannot take estrogen. To reduce the risk of pregnancy, it is very important to take this medication exactly as prescribed.
